Therefore, establishing a reliable method for evaluating shale gas productivity is essential for formulating a reasonable development plan for gas wells. However, existing evaluation methods typically treat desorption as a completely reversible process of adsorption, neglecting the influence of desorption hysteresis effect. In this work, it is found that the Langmuir model can describe both the adsorption and desorption processes of shale gas adequately; however, the corresponding adsorption parameters differ between the two processes due to the desorption hysteresis effect. By considering the desorption effect, a modified apparent permeability model and a modified material balance equation are further established. On this basis, by combining the five-linear flow theory, a shale gas productivity evaluation model accounting for the desorption effect is developed, and its reliability is validated using actual shale gas well data from the Sichuan Basin. Model calculations indicate that neglecting the desorption hysteresis effect can result in overestimating well productivity.
