AB - Seed production requires not only the application of appropriate techniques but also a good knowledge and planning aspects of agricultural production that allow an effective use of the staff and available production facilities. The advantage in using biofertilizers in agriculture is the reduction in production costs. This is because less chemical fertilizers are needed, and in turn this implies a reduction in input costs. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the best combination of chemical and organic fertilization for seed production on triticale (X Triticum secale Wittmack). The study was conducted at the Instituto Tecnológico de Roque, Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico in 2008-2009. We evaluated three varieties of triticale, two population densities and a combination of chemical fertilizers with biofertilizers. We used a complete randomized block design with three replications to evaluate a total of 30 treatments. Seed yield, plant height, spike length, 100-seed weight and specific gravity were recorded. The T5 variety had the highest seed yield (8.56 t/ha). Plant density, however, did not affect this parameter. Higher seed yields (7.70 t/ha) were obtained when chemical and Biofertilizers were combined at a dose of 50% each. The highest plant heights were obtained at doses of 75% biofertilizer and 25% chemical fertilizers (1.11 m) and with 100% biofertilizers (1.12 m). Highest values for spike length (17.29 cm) and seed weight (42.3 g) were shown when both fertilizers were combined at 50% each. The fertilization treatments did not statistically affect the hectoliter weight of seeds.
