    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.15, No.2, pp. 85-98, 2018, DOI:10.3970/mcb.2018.00329

Abstract Silk fibroin-typeⅡcollagen scaffold was made by 3D printing technique and freeze-drying method, and its mechanical properties were studied by experiments and theoretical prediction. The results show that the three-dimensional silk fibroin-typeⅡ collagen scaffold has good porosity and water absorption, which is (89.3%+3.26%) and (824.09%+93.05%), respectively. With the given strain value, the stress of scaffold decreases rapidly firstly and then tends to be stable during the stress relaxation. Both initial and instantaneous stresses increase with increase of applied strain value. The creep strains of scaffold with different stress levels show the two stages: the rapidly increasing… More >

An Effective Approach of Secured Medical Image Transmission Using Encryption Method

    Ranu Gupta1,3,*, Rahul Pachauri2,3, Ashutosh Kumar Singh1,4

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.15, No.2, pp. 63-83, 2018, DOI:10.3970/mcb.2018.00114

Abstract Various chaos-based image encryption schemes have been proposed in last few years. The proposed image encryption method uses chaotic map. The encryption is done by using 256 bit long external secret key. The initial condition for the chaotic mapping is evaluated by the use of external secret key along with the mapping function. Besides that, the proposed method is made more robust by applying multiple operations to the pixels of the image depending on the outcome of the calculation of the logistic map. Moreover, block shuffling of the image and modifying the secret key after More >

Study on the Contact Stress Concentration and the Hyperplasia of the Canine Trachea Granulation Tissue after Stenting

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.15, No.1, pp. 51-61, 2018, DOI:10.3970/mcb.2018.015.051

Abstract Tracheal stenosis is a common respiratory disease and is usually treated by stent implantation. However, the implanted stent often causes excessive hyperplasia of trachea granulation tissue, leading to the restenosis. Although surgical removal or chemical suppression can be used to alleviate the restenosis, the efficacy is limited. Thus, restenosis remains a thorny complication. We investigated this issue from the perspective of the “tress-growth”relationship. Firstly, the lower airway of 5 experimental dogs were CT-scanned to reconstruct the 3D numerical models; secondly, the implantations of the Nitinol alloy stents were numerically simulated; thirdly, 45 days after the… More >

An Insight into Biomolecular Flexibility: Its Measuring, Modeling and Regulating on Function at Single Molecule Level

    Jiangguo Lin1, Botao Xiao1,2, Quhuan Li1, Ying Fang1, Jianhua Wu1,*

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.15, No.1, pp. 37-49, 2018, DOI:10.3970/mcb.2018.015.037

Abstract The protein structure-function paradigm implies that the structure of a protein defines its function. Crystallization techniques such as X-ray, electron microscopy (EM) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) have been applied to resolve the crystal structure of numerous proteins, provided beautiful and informative models of proteins. However, proteins are not intrinsically in static state but in dynamic state, which is lack in crystal models. The protein flexibility, a key mechanical property of proteins, plays important roles in various biological processes, such as ligand-receptor interaction, signaling transduction, substrate recognition and post-translational modifications. Advanced time-resolved crystallography has been More >

Transforming Growth Factor-β1 Remodels the Cytoskeleton Organization of Mature Dendritic Cells via Smad2/3 Signaling Pathway

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.15, No.1, pp. 21-36, 2018, DOI:10.3970/mcb.2018.015.021

Abstract Dendritic cells (DCs) are the most potent professional antigen presenting cells as now known, which play critical roles in the initiation, programming and regulation of the immune response. Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), one of the major suppressive cytokines in tumor microenvironment, can deteriorate the biomechanical characteristics and motility of mature dendritic cells (mDCs),but the underlying molecular mechanisms are not well defined. In this study, the effects of TGF-β1 on the motilities and T cell priming capabilities of mDCs as well as the molecular regulatory mechanisms were investigated. The results showed that the cytoskeleton (F-actin) organizations of mDCs More >

Integration of Biochemical and Biomechanical Signals Regulating Endothelial Barrier Function

    Virginia Aragon Sanabria1, Cheng Dong*

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.15, No.1, pp. 1-19, 2018, DOI:10.3970/mcb.2018.015.001

Abstract Endothelial barrier function is critical for tissue homeostasis throughout the body. Disruption of the endothelial monolayer leads to edema, vascular diseases and even cancer metastasis among other pathological conditions. Breakdown of the endothelial barrier integrity triggered by cytokines (e.g.IL-8,IL-1β) and growth factors (e.g.VEGF) is well documented. However, endothelial cells are subject to major biomechanical forces that affect their behavior. Due to their unique location at the interface between circulating blood and surrounding tissues, endothelial cells experience shear stress, strain and contraction forces. More than three decades ago, it was already appreciated that shear flow caused More >

A PSO based Energy Efficient Coverage Control Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks

    Jin Wang1,2, Chunwei Ju2, Yu Gao2, Arun Kumar Sangaiah3, Gwang-jun Kim4,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.56, No.3, pp. 433-446, 2018, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2018.04132

Abstract Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are large-scale and high-density networks that typically have coverage area overlap. In addition, a random deployment of sensor nodes cannot fully guarantee coverage of the sensing area, which leads to coverage holes in WSNs. Thus, coverage control plays an important role in WSNs. To alleviate unnecessary energy wastage and improve network performance, we consider both energy efficiency and coverage rate for WSNs. In this paper, we present a novel coverage control algorithm based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Firstly, the sensor nodes are randomly deployed in a target area and remain More >

Abstract Network security situation awareness is an important foundation for network security management, which presents the target system security status by analyzing existing or potential cyber threats in the target system. In network offense and defense, the network security state of the target system will be affected by both offensive and defensive strategies. According to this feature, this paper proposes a network security situation awareness method using stochastic game in cloud computing environment, uses the utility of both sides of the game to quantify the network security situation value. This method analyzes the nodes based on… More >

Fast Near-duplicate Image Detection in Riemannian Space by A Novel Hashing Scheme

    Ligang Zheng1,*, Chao Song2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.56, No.3, pp. 529-539, 2018, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2018.03780

Abstract There is a steep increase in data encoded as symmetric positive definite (SPD) matrix in the past decade. The set of SPD matrices forms a Riemannian manifold that constitutes a half convex cone in the vector space of matrices, which we sometimes call SPD manifold. One of the fundamental problems in the application of SPD manifold is to find the nearest neighbor of a queried SPD matrix. Hashing is a popular method that can be used for the nearest neighbor search. However, hashing cannot be directly applied to SPD manifold due to its non-Euclidean intrinsic More >

    En Zhang1,2, Xintao Duan1,2, Siuming Yiu3, Junbin Fang4, Zoe L. Jiang5,*, Tsz HonYuen6, Jie Peng1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.56, No.3, pp. 401-414, 2018, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2018.03733

Abstract In the setting of (t, n) threshold secret sharing, at least t parties can reconstruct the secret, and fewer than t parties learn nothing about the secret. However, to achieve fairness, the existing secret sharing schemes either assume a trusted party exists or require running multi-round, which is not practical in a real application. In addition, the cost of verification grows dramatically with the number of participants and the communication complexity is O(t), if there is not a trusted combiner in the reconstruction phase. In this work, we propose a fair server-aided multi-secret sharing scheme for weak… More >
