MAGNETOCONVECTION AND IRREVERSIBILITY PHENOMENA WITHIN A LID DRIVEN CAVITY FILLED WITH LIQUID METAL UNDER MAGNETIC FIELD

    Fakher Oueslatia,b,†, Brahim Ben-Beyab

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-11, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.38

Abstract The current study deals with a numerical investigation of magnetoconvection and entropy generation within a lid driven square cavity subject to uniform magnetic field and filled with liquid metal. Effects of multiple parameters namely; the Prandtl, Hartmann and Richardson numbers were predicted and analyzed using a numerical methodology based on the finite volume method and a full multigrid technique. The numerical outcome of the present study shows that, the enhancement of Hartmann number declines the heat transfer rate for all liquid metals considered. Moreover, it is observed that augmenting the Richardson number leads to acceleration More >

UNSTEADY MHD THREE-DIMENSIONAL CASSON NANOFLUID FLOW OVER A POROUS LINEAR STRETCHING SHEET WITH SLIP CONDITION

    I.S. Oyelakina,† , S. Mondala,* , P. Sibandaa

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-9, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.37

Abstract In this paper we study the effects of thermal radiation, heat and mass transfer on the unsteady magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) flow of a three dimensional Casson nanofluid. The flow is subject to partial slip and convective conditions. The traditional model which includes the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis is revised so that the nanofluid particle volume fraction on the boundary is not actively controlled. In this respect the problem is more realistic. The dimensionless governing equations were solved using the spectral quasi-linearisation method. This work aims to fill the gap in existing literature by showing the More >

COMPUTATIONAL INVESTIGATION OF DOUBLE-DIFFUSIVE MIXED CONVECTIVE FLOW IN AN ENCLOSED SQUARE CAVITY WITH SORET EFFECT

    C. G. Mohan, A. Satheesh*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-13, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.36

Abstract In this study, a two-dimensional steady state double-diffusive mixed convective flow in a square cavity with Soret effect is presented. The numerical investigation is considered with two different conditions, (a) top and bottom walls move with same velocity (Uo) towards right and (b) top wall moves towards right and bottom wall moves towards left with the same velocity (Uo). The left and right walls remain stationary. The top and bottom walls are adiabatic; the left wall is maintained at high temperature and concentration. The right wall is maintained at low temperature and concentration. Governing equations More >

3D NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION ON LAMINAR FORCED CONVECTION AND HEAT TRANSFER IN A CIRCULAR TUBE INSERTED WITH RIGHT TRIANGULAR WAVY SURFACES

    Withada Jedsadaratanachaia, Amnart Boonloib,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-8, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.35

Abstract Numerical investigations on flow and heat transfer characteristics in a circular tube heat exchanger inserted with right triangular wavy surfaces are reported. The configurations of the wavy surfaces; incline and V-shape, are studied with flow attack angles of 30o, 45o and 60o for the Reynolds numbers, Re = 100 – 2000. The numerical results are compared with the smooth circular tube. The mechanisms on flow and heat transfer in the tube heat exchanger with the wavy surface are presented. As the results, the wavy surface can generate the vortex flow and impinging flow through the test… More >

THERMO-GEOMETRIC PARAMETER EFFECTS ON CONVECTIVELY COOLED INHOMOGENEOUS RECTANGULAR FIN

Ernest Léontin Lemouboua , Hervé Thierry Tagne Kamdema,* , Jean Roger Bogningb

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-8, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.34

Abstract Numerical experiments involving heat transfer were performed to analyze the influence of both fin thermo-geometric parameter and cooling boundary conditions on the temperature distribution and the efficiency of convective cooled inhomogeneous rectangular fin. The inhomogeneity of the fin is due to both temperature dependent thermal conductivity and convection heat coefficients. The analysis was facilitated by the use of the differential transformation method, which can solve nonlinear differential equation. A specific application is first made for temperature/efficiency homogeneous fin predictions and the results are in excellent agreement with standard exact results. Predictions of inhomogeneous fin temperature… More >

    Maatki Chemseddinea , Hakan F. Oztopb,c,*, Lioua Kolsia,d, Abdullah A.A.A. Al-Rashede , Mohamed Naceur Borjinia , Nidal Abu-Hamdehc

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-9, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.33

Abstract A computational study has been made for a three dimensional double diffusive convection with molten Pb-Sn by using finite volume method. In this work, two vertical walls have different temperature and different concentration while remaining walls are adiabatic. Buoyancy ratio, which changes between N = -0.1 and -10, is the main governing parameter during work. Other parameters are taken as fixed with Pr = 0.02, Le = 7500 and Ra = 5×103 . It is found that changing of buoyancy parameter becomes more effective on heat transfer than that of mass transfer. More >

TWO DIFFERENT APPROACHES FOR ANALYSING HEAT TRANSFER IN A POWER-LAW FLUID FLOW BETWEEN PARALLEL PLATES

    Fábio A. Caldasa,*, Paulo M. Coelhob,†

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-8, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.32

Abstract In this paper, Nusselt numbers for a power-law fluid in a fully developed laminar flow between parallel plates with constant, and different, wall heat fluxes in the presence of dissipation effects are presented. The Nusselt numbers values were obtained following two different approaches. One is the “classical” approach, based on a single bulk temperature, and this approach is used in this work to obtain for the first time generic analytical expressions for Nusselt numbers. In the new approach, different bulk temperatures are used for each Nu′ determination, one bulk temperature for each side of the More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-10, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.31

Abstract A finite volume based three dimensional numerical analysis is performed on the effect of angle of inclination of the external magnetic force on entropy generation due to natural convection inside the cubical cavity filled with CNT - water nanofluid. The governing equations are numerically solved by vorticity - vector potential formalism. The vertical walls of enclosure are differentially heated and the horizontal walls are adiabatic. The effect due to Rayleigh number (103 ≤ Ra ≤ 105), Hartmann number (0 ≤ Ha ≤ 100), angle of inclination of external magnetic field (0° ≤ α ≤ 90°) and More >

NUMERICAL STUDY OF THE GASKET THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY EFFECT ON THE THERMAL CONTACT RESISTANCE BETWEEN TWO SOLIDS IN CONTACT

Rachid Chadoulia,b,*, Frédéric Lebona, Iulian Rosua , Mohammed Makhloufb

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-6, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.30

Abstract In this paper, a numerical model investigating the impact of gasket thermal quality on the reduction in the thermal contact resistance (TCR) between two solids is presented and validated analytically. The model proposed is a 2D steady state model. The thermal conductivity of the solid materials ranges from 20 to 390 W/m·K, and the gasket thermal conductivity ranges from 0.16W/m·K (TC of rubber) to and 5W/m·K (TC of thermal paste). As expected, the results obtained clearly confirm that the gasket significantly improves the heat transfer between two solids in contact, and in particular that the More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-13, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.29

Abstract In this article, the heat, momentum and mass (species) transfer in external boundary layer flow of Casson nanofluid from an isothermal sphere surface is studied theoretically. The effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis are incorporated in the model in the presence of both heat and nanoparticle mass transfer. The governing partial differential equations (PDEs) are transformed into highly nonlinear, coupled, multi-degree non-similar partial differential equations consisting of the momentum, energy and concentration equations via appropriate non-similarity transformations. These transformed conservation equations are solved subject to appropriate boundary conditions with a second order accurate finite difference More >
