    Growth habit and root anatomy in Macroptilium erythroloma and Macroptilium bracteatum (Fabaceae)

    Abstract We studied the growth habit and root anatomy on two species of the Macroptilium genera, Fabaceae. These species, potential forages, are native to the Northwest Provinces in Argentina. The aims of this paper were to determine the survival capacity of the study species relating its growth habit and persistence with morphological and anatomical features. Root samples were collected and cut using either a microtome or by hand, at varying distances from the root tip. Cuts were examined under a light microscope, and with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) using staining techniques. Macroptilium bracteatum and M. erythroloma are perennial herbs. More >

    Abstract Recently, global warming issues have been discussed all over the world. Of the total amount of CO2 emitted in Japan, a transportation sector is responsible for 20%. In the transportation sector, 90% of the emission is due to road traffic. This amount must be reduced drastically to realize a low-carbon society.     Abstract After a fire event, germination of seeds with hard coats can be enhanced. In the present study, we investigated whether germination of Mimosa bimucronata (DC.) Kuntze (Fabaceae) seeds, which present hard coats, is increased after fire, even though these trees usually occur in damp areas, where fire is a transient event.     Abstract Aim of this paper is to simulate the fluid-structure interaction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) prestressed storage tank under seismic influence. The coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) analysis technique is used to simulate the hydrodynamic interaction between LNG and the cylinder of LNG prestressed storage tank. The 3-D model of LNG has been dispersed by Eulerian mesh which is different from traditional added mass analysis method.     Abstract Ductile failure is a complex multi-scale phenomenon evolved from the micro-voids to macro-crack. There are three main failure mechanisms behinds a ductile failure: adiabatic shear band (ASB), spall fracture, and crack. Since this type of thermo-mechanical phenomena involves large deformation and large scale plastic yielding, a meshfree method has intrinsic advantages in solving this kind of problems over the conventional finite element method.
