    Abstract Pomacea canaliculata is a common gastropod in freshwater habitats from Central and Northern Argentina, extending northwards into the Amazon basin. Several Platyhelminthes have been reported associated to P. canaliculata, sharing an intimate relationship with this gastropod host. The objectives of this study were to describe the symbiotic species assemblages associated to P. canaliculata in the study area, and to disclose differences among them.     Abstract CAS might have a key role in the apoptosis induced by toxins, acting as anti-apoptotic factor, stimulating the cellular proliferation and the cell contact stabilization. To start to elucidate their role in the brain apoptosis of Bufo arenarum induced by cypermethrin (CY), the expression patterns of CAS and several cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) were established.

    Abstract Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) has been implicated in sporadic diarrhea in children and adults and has been identified as the cause of several outbreaks worldwide. The HEp-2 test remains the gold standard for identification of this pathotype. A 60-65 MDa plasmid encodes the aggregative adherence fimbriae (AAF/I and AAF/II), a transcriptional activator (aggR gene), the enteroaggregative heat-stable enterotoxin EAST1 (astA gene) and a cytotoxin (Pet). The standard assay for EAEC is performed only in research laboratories, because it is expensive, labor intensive and time-consuming.     Abstract In our previous studies, bacteriostatic action of flavonoids against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25 923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 25 922 was demostrated. In the present work synergism of their combinations in order to improve the bacteriostatic action against the same microorganisms was determined. The experiences were made in nutritive broth, maintaining constant one drug concentration (20 µg/ml) and increasing the other one.     Abstract The biological efficiency of five stocks of Bacillus subtilis, of the mixture of the bioproducts quitosan and Larrea tridentata extract, and five synthetic fungicides were evaluated against the fungus Alternaria dauci Kühn in laboratory and greenhouse experiments. The effect of these compounds on growth and yield of carrot was also determined.     Abstract The probability density functions used to characterize the distribution of fatigue cycles in random loads are usually defined over an infinite domain. This means that they give a non-zero probability to count cycles with an infinitely large peak or valley, which however seems of less physical sense.     Abstract This paper provides an overview of the computational intelligence methods developed for the structural integrity assessment of aging aircraft structures. Computational intelligence techniques reviewed include artificial neural networks, inverse neural network mapping, wavelet based image processing methods, genetic algorithms, spectral element methods, and particle swarm optimization. Multi-site damage, corrosion, and corrosion-fatigue damage in aging aircraft is specifically discussed.
