    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 5677-5697, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023630 - 14 January 2022

Abstract HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS) of video content is becoming an undivided part of the Internet and accounts for most of today's network traffic. Video compression technology plays a vital role in efficiently utilizing network channels, but encoding videos into multiple representations with selected encoding parameters is a significant challenge. However, video encoding is a computationally intensive and time-consuming operation that requires high-performance resources provided by on-premise infrastructures or public clouds. In turn, the public clouds, such as Amazon elastic compute cloud (EC2), provide hundreds of computing instances optimized for different purposes and clients’ budgets. Thus,… More >

    Mustafa Kamal*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.3, pp. 1239-1269, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.017532 - 30 December 2021

Abstract In general, simple subsystems like series or parallel are integrated to produce a complex hybrid system. The reliability of a system is determined by the reliability of its constituent components. It is often extremely difficult or impossible to get specific information about the component that caused the system to fail. Unknown failure causes are instances in which the actual cause of system failure is unknown. On the other side, thanks to current advanced technology based on computers, automation, and simulation, products have become incredibly dependable and trustworthy, and as a result, obtaining failure data for… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.5, pp. 1381-1395, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018262 - 22 December 2021

Abstract In this paper, we propose a neoteric and high-efficiency single image dehazing algorithm via contrast enhancement which is called STRASS (Spatio-Temporal Retinex-Inspired by an Averaging of Stochastic Samples) dehazing, it is realized by constructing an efficient high-pass filter to process haze images and taking the influence of human vision system into account in image dehazing principles. The novel high-pass filter works by getting each pixel using RSR and computes the average of the samples. Then the low-pass filter resulting from the minimum envelope in STRESS framework has been replaced by the average of the samples. More >

Image Dehazing Based on Pixel Guided CNN with PAM via Graph Cut

    Fayadh Alenezi*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.2, pp. 3425-3443, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023339 - 07 December 2021

Abstract Image dehazing is still an open research topic that has been undergoing a lot of development, especially with the renewed interest in machine learning-based methods. A major challenge of the existing dehazing methods is the estimation of transmittance, which is the key element of haze-affected imaging models. Conventional methods are based on a set of assumptions that reduce the solution search space. However, the multiplication of these assumptions tends to restrict the solutions to particular cases that cannot account for the reality of the observed image. In this paper we reduce the number of simplified… More >

Recent Advances in Flame Retardant Bio-Based Benzoxazine Resins

Hongliang Ding, Xin Wang*, Lei Song, Yuan Hu

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.4, pp. 871-895, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018150 - 02 November 2021

Abstract Benzoxazines have attracted wide attention from academics all over the world because of their unique properties. However, most of the production and preparation of benzoxazine resins depends on petroleum resources now, especially bisphenol A-based benzoxazine. Therefore, owing to the environmental impacts, the development of bio-based benzoxazines is gaining more and more interest to substitute petroleum-based benzoxazines. Similar to petroleum-based benzoxazines, most of bio-based benzoxazines suffer from flammability. Thus, it is necessary to endow bio-based benzoxazines with outstanding flame retardancy. The purpose of this review is to summarize the latest advance in flame retardant bio-based benzoxazines. More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract We report a very rare case of successful intracardiac correction in a patient with heterotaxy syndrome. The cardiac malformations included dextrocardia, double outlet right ventricle, pulmonary stenosis, interrupted inferior vena cava, hemiazygos continuation and total anomalous pulmonary venous return. One-stage correction was performed. The atrial procedure consisted of intra- and extraatrial rerouting of the anomalous systemic and pulmonary venous return. The hepatic veins were detached and diverted to the left atrium via an extracardiac conduit. The correction of the double outlet right ventricle was accomplished by intraventricular redirection of the blood flow from the left ventricle More >

Multi-View Multi-Modal Head-Gaze Estimation for Advanced Indoor User Interaction

    Jung-Hwa Kim1, Jin-Woo Jeong2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.3, pp. 5107-5132, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.021107 - 11 October 2021

Abstract Gaze estimation is one of the most promising technologies for supporting indoor monitoring and interaction systems. However, previous gaze estimation techniques generally work only in a controlled laboratory environment because they require a number of high-resolution eye images. This makes them unsuitable for welfare and healthcare facilities with the following challenging characteristics: 1) users’ continuous movements, 2) various lighting conditions, and 3) a limited amount of available data. To address these issues, we introduce a multi-view multi-modal head-gaze estimation system that translates the user’s head orientation into the gaze direction. The proposed system captures the… More >

Abstract We propose an end-to-end dehazing model based on deep learning (CNN network) and uses the dehazing model re-proposed by AOD-Net based on the atmospheric scattering model for dehazing. Compare to the previously proposed dehazing network, the dehazing model proposed in this paper make use of the FPN network structure in the field of target detection, and uses five feature maps of different sizes to better obtain features of different proportions and different sub-regions. A large amount of experimental data proves that the dehazing model proposed in this paper is superior to previous dehazing technologies in… More >
