Jae In Kim1, Kilho Eom2, Moon Kyu Kwak3, Sungsoo Na4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.8, No.2, pp. 67-74, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2008.008.067

Abstract This paper concerns the application of component mode synthesis for biomolecule modeling to understand protein dynamics. As for protein dynamics, eigenvalue problem should be formulated to obtain eigenvalue, eigenvector and thermal fluctuation. To describe the thermal fluctuation of protein, normal mode analysis is introduced and normal modes identify the dynamic behavior of protein very well. Component mode synthesis considers the given complex structure as an assembly of smaller components. The selection of a component may be arbitrary. When the component mode synthesis is applied to formulate the eigenvalue problem of protein structure, we selected a More >

    Salazar-Sosa1 E, H I Trejo-Escareño2, C Vázquez-Vázquez1, JD López-Martínez1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.76, pp. 169-185, 2007, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2007.76.169

Abstract This research was performed at the agricultural experimental center of the Facultad de Agricultura y Zootecnia, Universidad de Durango, Mexico. The main objetive was to determine the best amount of cow manure application and its effect on corn production, quality and nutrient uptake. Two factors were studied in this experiment that started in 2000. The results presented in this paper correspond to 2001. The factors were (1) crop, with the levels corn alone and corn-soybean, and (2) cow manure (with the levels: 0, 40, 80, 120, 160 Mgr/ha) and chemical fertilizer (100-150-0 kg/ha of N, P2O5More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.4, No.4, pp. 251-256, 2007, DOI:10.3970/icces.2007.004.251

Abstract The viscoplastic constitutive relations with kinematic strain hardening-softening model for geomaterials are developed. The constitutive models include strain-rate dependent properties based on the thoery by Duvaut-Lions. The dynamic relaxation method for static problems and the dynamic analysis for earthquake responses are applied to boundary value problems using finite element methods. More >

Application of Gaussian Approximating Functions to the Solution of the Second Boundary Value Problem of Elasto-Plasticity for 2D Isotropic Bodies

    V. Romero1, S. Kanaun2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.3, No.4, pp. 233-242, 2007, DOI:10.3970/icces.2007.003.233

Abstract In this work Gaussian approximating functions proposed in the works of V. Maz'ya are used for the solution of the integral equations of elasto-plasticity for isotropic bodies. The use of this functions esentially simplify the calculation of the elements of the final matrix of the linear algebraic equations of the discretized problem. The elements of this matrix turn to be a combination of simple elementary functions. The method is applied to a 2D rectangular body that has a cut on a border and is subjected to axial tension. The convergence of the method is studied More >

New Basis Functions and Their Applications to PDEs

    Haiyan Tian1, Sergiy Reustkiy2, C.S. Chen1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.3, No.4, pp. 169-176, 2007, DOI:10.3970/icces.2007.003.169

Abstract We introduce a new type of basis functions in this paper to approximate a scattered data set. We test our basis functions on recovering the well-known Franke's function given by scattered data. We then use these basis functions in Kansa's method for solving Helmholtz equations. To demonstrate our proposed approach, we compare the numerical solutions with analytic solutions. The numerical results show that our approach is accurate and efficient. More >

Some Application of MLPG in Large Deformation Analysis of Hyperelasto-Plastic Material

    Zhenhan Yao1,Zhangfei Zhang1, Xi Zhang1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.3, No.3, pp. 133-138, 2007, DOI:10.3970/icces.2007.003.133

Abstract The Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) Method is applied to solve large deformation problems of elasto-plastic materials. In order to avoid re-computation of the shape functions, the supports of MLS approximation functions cover the same sets of nodes during the deformation; fundamental variables are represented in spatial configuration, while the numerical quadrature is conducted in the material configuration; the derivation of shape function to spatial coordinate is pushed back to material coordinate by tensor transformation. For simulating both large strain and large rotation, the multiplicative hyperelasto-plastic constitutive model is adopted for path-dependent material. Numerical results indicate More >

Stability Analysis of Beams Rotating on an Elastic Ring Application to Turbo machinery Rotor-Stator Contacts

    N. Lesaffre1, J-J. Sinou1, F. Thouverez1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.2, No.4, pp. 101-110, 2007, DOI:10.3970/icces.2007.002.101

Abstract This paper presents a model of flexible beams rotating on the inner surface of an elastic stationary ring. The beams possesses two degrees of freedom, traction/compression and flexure. The in-plane deformations of the ring are considered and a single mode approximation is used. The model has been developed within the rotating frame by use of an energetic method. To better understand the phenomena occurring, the degrees of freedom of the beams can first be treated separately then together. Stability analysis show that even without rubbing, the radial degree of freedom of a beam rotating on More >

Abstract Image-based computational models for blood flow in the heart and diseased arteries have been developed for disease assessment and potential clinical applications. Models with fluid-structure interactions for human right ventricle (RV) remodeling surgery design, carotid and coronary atherosclerotic plaques and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) were presented. Organ morphology, material properties, governing equations, proper initial and boundary conditions, controlling factors and research focuses for each model were discussed. More >

Application of the MLPG to Thermo-Piezoelectricity

    J. Sladek1, V. Sladek1, Ch. Zhang2, P. Solek3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.22, No.3, pp. 217-234, 2007, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2007.022.217

Abstract A meshless method based on the local Petrov-Galerkin approach is proposed for the solution of boundary value problems for coupled thermo-electro-mechanical fields. Transient dynamic governing equations are considered here. To eliminate the time-dependence in these equations, the Laplace-transform technique is applied. Material properties of piezoelectric materials are influenced by a thermal field. It is leading to an induced nonhomogeneity and the governing equations are more complicated than in a homogeneous counterpart. Two-dimensional analyzed domain is subdivided into small circular subdomains surrounding nodes randomly spread over the whole domain. A unit step function is used as More >

An Unconditionally Time-Stable Level Set Method and Its Application to Shape and Topology Optimization

    S.Y. Wang1,2, K.M. Lim2,3, B.C. Khoo2,3, M.Y. Wang4

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.21, No.1, pp. 1-40, 2007, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2007.021.001

Abstract The level set method is a numerical technique for simulating moving interfaces. In this paper, an unconditionally BIBO (Bounded-Input-Bounded-Output) time-stable consistent meshfree level set method is proposed and applied as a more effective approach to simultaneous shape and topology optimization. In the present level set method, the meshfree infinitely smooth inverse multiquadric Radial Basis Functions (RBFs) are employed to discretize the implicit level set function. A high level of smoothness of the level set function and accuracy of the solution to the Hamilton-Jacobi partial differential equation (PDE) can be achieved. The resulting dynamic system of… More >
