Abstract The Koiter's asymptotic method is combined with the assumed strain solid shell element formulation for postbuckling analysis of composite and sandwich structures. The assumed strain solid shell element is free of locking and the small angle assumption, and it allows multiple plies through the element thickness. Abstract Defining the crack path in brittle and non-brittle crack is not easy, due to several unknowns. If the direction of crack propagation can be computed by means of one of the existing criteria, it is not known whether this direction will remain constant during crack propagation. A crack initiation leads to an enhanced stress field at crack tip. During propagation, the enhanced tip stress field propagates into the solid, locally interacting with the pre-existing stress field. Abstract Anhysteretic, coupled, linear and nonlinear constitutive relationship for magnetostrictive material is studied in this paper. Constitutive relationships of magnetostrictive material are represented through two equations, one for actuation and other for sensing, both of which are coupled through magneto-mechanical coefficient. Coupled model is studied without assuming any explicit direct relationship with magnetic field. Abstract Objective: Horseshoe kidney is one of the most common congenital anomalies of renal structure. Not infrequently, surgical management of both benign and malignant disorders is required in patients with horseshoe kidney due to the susceptibility to certain conditions. The literature suggests a greater proclivity to certain renal tumors with this anomaly. We present three cases of malignancy in horseshoe kidneys. The unique technical challenges presented by these cases and the surgical approaches are discussed.

We report on the use of hand-held personal digital assistants (PDAs) to document all clinical and academic activities of urology residents at one academic institution.

Abstract A 75 year-old uncircumcised man presented with a 1.1 mm thick malignant melanoma on the ventral aspect of the glans penis. He underwent isosulfan blue and technetium 99m guided sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy and distal penectomy with 2 cm margins. This is the third reported case of penile melanoma using both markers for SLN mapping. While frozen sections and H & E stains were negative, S-100 and HMB-45 immunohistochemistry revealed micrometastasis in one of the sentinel nodes. This case illustrates that any discussion with the patient about management and prognosis should await immunohistochemistry results. More >

Abstract Laparoscopic nephrectomy is quickly becoming accepted as the standard treatment for small renal neoplasms and benign renal disease. The presence of an ileal conduit has been termed a relative contraindication to laparoscopic surgery. A 58-year old female presented with recurrent pyelonephritis and hydronephrosis of her left kidney. Abstract Objective: To evaluate whether there is any histologic progression from radical prostatectomy (RP) to local recurrence in patients with clinically isolated local recurrence following RP.
