    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.8, No.5, pp. 535-547, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2020.09304 - 29 April 2020

Abstract In this study, we prepared a series of tung oil phenolic foams (TPF) by a one-pot method. The FT-IR and 1 H NMR spectra confirm the successful FriedelCrafts grafting of phenol to the long-chain alkyl group in tung oil. Modified TPFs exhibit enhanced mechanical properties, including compressive and flexural strengths of up to 0.278 ± 0.036 MPa and 0.450 ± 0.017 MPa, respectively, which represent increases of 68.75% and 86.72% over those of pure phenolic foam (PF). SEM spectra reveal the TPF microstructure to have uniform hexagonal cell morphology, narrower cell size distribution, and smaller More >

Abstract Microwave-assisted irradiation was performed for esterification of chicory inulin with high degree of polymerization with acetic anhydride without a solvent only with a catalyst. The resulting esters were characterized by melting point, hydrophilic-lipophilic balance, thin-layer chromatography, ultraviolet spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Inulin acetate demonstrated a high degree of acetylation (2.5–3.0) and presented a white, water-insoluble substance with bitter taste. The FTIR and NMR spectra confirmed esterification and demonstrated the incorporation of hydrophobic residue to the water soluble inulin backbone. Swelling capacity, water holding, oil-holding capacities, the foamability,… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.44, No.1, pp. 13-18, 2020, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2020.07593 - 01 March 2020

Abstract Human-induced neural stem cells (iNSCs) transplantation is a potential treatment of neurodegeneration diseases. However, whether the reprogrammed cells have the same characterizations as human fetal neural stem cells needs further exploration. Here we isolated human fetal neural stem cells from aborted 12-week fetal brains and compared with iNSCs reprogrammed from human peripheral blood mononuclear cells in gene expression, proliferation ability, differentiation capacity, and the responses to tumor necrosis factor-α. We found that iNSCs and NSCs both expressed neural stem cell markers Nestin, SOX1, and SOX2. However, only iNSCs can be patterned into dopaminergic neurons and More >

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.26, No.6, pp. 10033-10038, 2019

Abstract Introduction: Robotic cystectomy with intracorporeal urinary diversion (RCID) is a technically challenging procedure. It is understood that this approach has a learning curve; however, limited studies have characterized this learning curve. The cumulative sum (CUSUM) method plots the learning curve. The aim of this study was to use the CUSUM approach to investigate the number of cases required to reach a consistent, desired performance level for RCID.
Materials and methods: A retrospective study of the first 27 and 28 RCID cases performed by two new fellowship-trained faculty at two separate institutions from November 2014 to January 2018… More >

Abstract Graphite is the most suitable material as dry lubricant. However, its application as a lubricant is limited with necessity of moisture vapors. Alternatively, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) has an excellent lubrication property but does not have mechanical characteristics. The effect of gamma radiation doses on the lubrication behavior of graphite –PTFE (Inoflon A-408) system has been studied using (TR-TW-30L) tribotester with thrust washer attachment. Different compositions of graphite and PTFE were prepared and irradiated by gamma rays. Improved tribological properties of graphite –PTFE system showed by decrease in coefficient of friction and wear. SEM-EDX, XRD and contact More >
