    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.5, pp. 515-524, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15166183598572

Abstract Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common clinical cancer that remains incurable in most cases. miRNAs are reported to play a part in the development of various tumors. In the present study, we found that miR-324-5p was downregulated in CRC cells, while ELAV (embryonic lethal, abnormal vision, Drosophila)-like protein 1 (ELAVL1) showed a higher expression. miR-324-5p transfection significantly inhibited the proliferation as well as invasion in both SW620 and SW480 cells. miR-324-5p mimic transfection markedly decreased the expression of ELAVL1. Luciferase reporter gene assay confirmed that ELAVL1 is a direct target of miR- 324-5p. Furthermore, cancer invasion More >

    S. Deivalakshmi*, P. Palanisamy1, X. Z. Gao2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.25, No.3, pp. 459-471, 2019, DOI:10.31209/2018.100000001

Abstract The main aim of this paper is to propose a new technique for enhancing the contrast of dark images using Dynamic Stochastic Resonance (DSR) and Multi Wavelet Transform (MWT), which is computationally more efficient than the conventional methods. In the work, for enhancing the contrast of dark images, the intrinsic noise (darkness) of dark images has been used. The proposed MWT-based DSR scheme (MWT-DSR) can yield better performances in terms of visual information and color preservation than already reported techniques. The desired output response is validated by the Relative Contrast Enhancement Factor (F), Perceptual Quality More >

Pseudogamous Apomixis in Maize and Sorghum in Diploid-Tetraploid Crosses

    Marina Tsvetova1, Lev Elkonin1,*, Yulia Italianskaya1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.88, No.4, pp. 389-401, 2019, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2019.07485

Abstract Apomictic seed development is a complex process including formation of unreduced embryo sac, parthenogenetic embryo development from the egg cell, and endosperm formation either autonomously, or due to fertilization of polar nuclei by the sperm (under pseudogamous form of apomixis). In the latter case, an obstacle to the normal endosperm development is disturbance of maternal (m) -to-paternal (p) genomic ratio 2m: 1p that occurs in the cases of pollination of unreduced embryo sac with haploid sperms. Usage of tetraploid pollinators can overcome this problem because in such crosses maternal-to-paternal genomic ratio is 4m: 2p that… More >

Interaction of IL-22/IL-22R1 promotes cell proliferation and suppresses apoptosis of colorectal cancer via phosphorylation of STAT3

    Xiaoning Qin1, Liqing Yuan2, Hongxun Ruan1, Lin Lin1

    BIOCELL, Vol.43, No.2, pp. 89-98, 2019, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2019.06352

Abstract Interleukin-22 (IL-22) is a member of IL-10 cytokine family which is expressed in activated T cells predominantly and in activated natural killer cells at lower levels. Previous studies have demonstrated the link between elevated levels of IL-22 and disease severity of psoriasis, Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis and interstitial lung diseases. However, the function of IL-22 in the development and progression of colorectal cancer (CRC) remains elusive. In this study, we first evaluated the IL-22/IL-22R1 level in CRC patients, and found that tumor tissues have more active expression of IL-22 and IL-22R1 than normal tissues,… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.43, No.2, pp. 51-58, 2019, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2019.07019

Abstract Tankyrase1 plays an essential role in cancer progression by regulating telomere length. The study aimed to determine expression of TNKS1 and its regulation in colorectal cancer (CRC) in 20 samples from Saudi patients. mRNA expression of TNKS1 in CRC and paired normal tissues was measured by qRT-PCR. Epigenetic modification of TNKS1 promoter was determined by methylation-specific PCR while somatic mutation was analyzed by Sanger sequencing in exon 10 of the gene. All cancerous and normal tissues expressed TNKS1, but level of expression in CRC tissues was significantly associated with tumor stage though no other parameters; age, gender,… More >

Noureddine Baaka1,*, Manel Ben Ticha1,2, Wafa Haddar1,3, Mohamed Farouk Mhenni1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.7, No.3, pp. 289-300, 2019, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2019.04355

Abstract Acrylic fibres are highly crystalline and non-polar polymers, which makes their dyeing a very difficult step that poses real technical challenges. In order to overcome this concern, it is intended in this paper to modify acrylic fibers by different methods namely cationisation using the Crosscolor DRT then amidoximation using hydroxylamine hydrochloride and ammonium acetate. The resulted samples were dyed then with the bio-colorant extracted from grape marc. The effect of the pretreatment on fibers fine structure using X-ray diffraction and the scanning electron microscope (SEM) images and its correlation with the colour strength of the More >

    Yuhan Kang1, Fenlin Liu1, Chunfang Yang1,*, Xiangyang Luo1, Tingting Zhang2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.59, No.1, pp. 315-329, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.05242

Abstract This study proposes a color image steganalysis algorithm that extracts high-dimensional rich model features from the residuals of channel differences. First, the advantages of features extracted from channel differences are analyzed, and it shown that features extracted in this manner should be able to detect color stego images more effectively. A steganalysis feature extraction method based on channel differences is then proposed, and used to improve two types of typical color image steganalysis features. The improved features are combined with existing color image steganalysis features, and the ensemble classifiers are trained to detect color stego More >
