A Secure and Efficient Cluster-Based Authentication Scheme for Internet of Things (IoTs)

    Kanwal Imran1,*, Nasreen Anjum2, Abdullah Alghamdi3, Asadullah Shaikh3, Mohammed Hamdi3, Saeed Mahfooz1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.1, pp. 1033-1052, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.018589

Abstract IPv6 over Low Power Wireless Personal Area Network (6LoWPAN) provides IP connectivity to the highly constrained nodes in the Internet of Things (IoTs). 6LoWPAN allows nodes with limited battery power and storage capacity to carry IPv6 datagrams over the lossy and error-prone radio links offered by the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, thus acting as an adoption layer between the IPv6 protocol and IEEE 802.15.4 network. The data link layer of IEEE 802.15.4 in 6LoWPAN is based on AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), but the 6LoWPAN standard lacks and has omitted the security and privacy requirements at higher layers. The sensor nodes in… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.31, No.1, pp. 523-537, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.019913

Abstract The Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart (CAPTCHA) technique has been an interesting topic for several years. An Arabic CAPTCHA has recently been proposed to serve Arab users. Since there have been few scientific studies supporting a systematic design or tuning for users, this paper aims to analyze the Arabic text-based CAPTCHA at the parameter level by conducting an experimental study. Based on the results of this study, we propose an Arabic text-based CAPTCHA scheme with Fast Gradient Sign Method (FGSM) adversarial images. To evaluate the security of the proposed scheme, we ran four filter… More >

TLSmell: Direct Identification on Malicious HTTPs Encryption Traffic with Simple Connection-Specific Indicators

    Zhengqiu Weng1,2, Timing Chen1,*, Tiantian Zhu1, Hang Dong1, Dan Zhou1, Osama Alfarraj3

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 105-119, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.015074

Abstract Internet traffic encryption is a very common traffic protection method. Most internet traffic is protected by the encryption protocol called transport layer security (TLS). Although traffic encryption can ensure the security of communication, it also enables malware to hide its information and avoid being detected. At present, most of the malicious traffic detection methods are aimed at the unencrypted ones. There are some problems in the detection of encrypted traffic, such as high false positive rate, difficulty in feature extraction, and insufficient practicability. The accuracy and effectiveness of existing methods need to be improved. In this paper, we present TLSmell,… More >

An Automated Penetration Semantic Knowledge Mining Algorithm Based on Bayesian Inference

    Yichao Zang1,*, Tairan Hu2, Tianyang Zhou2, Wanjiang Deng3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.3, pp. 2573-2585, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.012220

Abstract Mining penetration testing semantic knowledge hidden in vast amounts of raw penetration testing data is of vital importance for automated penetration testing. Associative rule mining, a data mining technique, has been studied and explored for a long time. However, few studies have focused on knowledge discovery in the penetration testing area. The experimental result reveals that the long-tail distribution of penetration testing data nullifies the effectiveness of associative rule mining algorithms that are based on frequent pattern. To address this problem, a Bayesian inference based penetration semantic knowledge mining algorithm is proposed. First, a directed bipartite graph model, a kind… More >

Abstract A critical infrastructure provides essential services to a nation’s population. Interruptions in its smooth operations are highly undesirable because they will cause significant and devastating consequences on all stakeholders in the society. In order to provide sustained protection to a nation’s critical infrastructure, we must continually assess and evaluate the risks thereof. We propose a risk assessment framework that can evaluate the risks posed to the security of a critical infrastructure from threat agents, with a special emphasis on the smart grid communications infrastructure. The framework defines finegrained risk identification to help quantify and assess exploitable vulnerabilities within a critical… More >
