    On Simple Formulations of Weakly-Singular Traction & Displacement BIE, and Their Solutions through Petrov-Galerkin Approaches

    Abstract Using the directly derived non-hyper singular integral equations for displacement gradients [as in Okada, Rajiyah, and Atluri (1989a)], simple and straight-forward derivations of weakly singular traction BIE's for solids undergoing small deformations are presented. A large number of ``intrinsic properties'' of the fundamental solutions in elasticity are developed, and are used in rendering the tBIE and dBIE to be only weakly-singular, in a very simple manner. The solutions of the weakly singular tBIE and dBIE through either global Petrov-Galerkin type ``boundary element methods'', or, alternatively, through the meshless local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) methods, are discussed.     Abstract Synbranchus marmoratus (Synbranchidae), commonly known as the swamp eel, is a protogynous diandric teleost fish widely distributed throughout South America. The purpose of this work was to study the ovarian anatomy and to describe oocyte developmental stages in the swamp eel, Synbranchus marmoratus.
    S. marmoratus has a unique sacular ovary. It is covered by a conspicuous muscular wall, probably involved in an egg-releasing system acting as a peristaltic-like mechanism.     Abstract Nutritional deficiencies are associated with impaired immune response, affecting the body’s defence mechanisms. It is also known that Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) and fermented products such us yogurt have immunopotentiator activity and nutritional properties, and could thus be used as a valuable supplement in a renutrition diet.     Abstract In the present work the iterative effective medium approximation (IEMA) is appropriately used for wave dispersion and attenuation predictions in fiber-reinforced composites that microscopically exhibit a non-uniform fiber distribution. Two types of composites with such irregular topology of fibers are considered.     Abstract As shown in an earlier work, the FEM-BEM alternating method is an efficient and accurate method for fracture analysis. In the present paper, a further improvement is formulated and implemented for the analyses of three-dimensional arbitrary surface cracks by modeling the cracks in a local finite-sized subdomain using the symmetric Galerkin boundary element method (SGBEM).     Abstract An efficient and highly accurate, Symmetric Galerkin Boundary Element Method - Finite Element Method - based alternating method, for the analysis of three-dimensional non-planar cracks, and their growth, in structural components of complicated geometries, is proposed. The crack is modeled by the symmetric Galerkin boundary element method, as a distribution of displacement discontinuities, as if in an infinite medium.     Abstract The Boundary Element Method (BEM) is used to compute the three-dimensional variation pressure field generated by a point pressure source inside a flat waveguide channel filled with a homogeneous fluid, in the presence of infinite rigid circular pipelines. The problem is solved in the frequency domain, using boundary elements to model the pipeline and an appropriate Green's function to simulate the free surface and the rigid floor of the channel.
