Shape-Effect in the Effective Laws of Plain and Rubberized Concrete

    E. Ferretti

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.30, No.3, pp. 237-284, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2012.030.237

Abstract The procedure of the effective law outlined in this paper [Ferretti (2001); Ferretti and Di Leo (2003); Ferretti (2004b)] is an experimental procedure for identifying the constitutive law in uniaxial compression of brittle heterogeneous materials, and is based on the physical, analytical and numerical discussions about the existence or otherwise of strain-softening [Ferretti (2004a); Ferretti (2005)]. This procedure allows us to correct several incongruities that characterize the average stress versus average strain diagrams: it produces evidence against strain-softening in uniaxial compression [Ferretti (2004b)], whose existence may be questioned from a physical point of view [Ferretti (2004a); Ferretti (2005)], it provides… More >

Experimental and Analytical Studies on Concrete Cylinders Wrapped with Fiber Reinforced Polymer

    Bhashya V.1, Ramesh G.1, Sundar Kumar S.1, Bharatkumar B. H.1, Krishnamoorthy T.S.1, Nagesh R Iyer.1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.25, No.1, pp. 47-74, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2011.025.047

Abstract Fibre-reinforced polymers (FRPs) are being introduced into a wide variety of civil engineering applications. These materials have been found to be particularly attractive for applications involving the strengthening and rehabilitation of existing reinforced concrete structures. In this paper, experimental investigations and analytical studies on four series of the concrete cylinders wrapped with FRP are presented. First series consist of concrete cylinders wrapped with one layer carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), second series concrete cylinders wrapped with two layers CFRP, in third series, concrete cylinders were wrapped with one layer glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) and the fourth series consist of… More >

Shear Strength Evaluation of Concrete Beams Reinforced with BFRP Bars and Steel fibers without Stirrups

    Smitha Gopinath1,2, S. Meenu3, A. Ramach,ra Murthy1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.51, No.2, pp. 81-103, 2016, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2016.051.081

Abstract This paper presents experimental and analytical investigations on concrete beams reinforced with basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) and steel fibers without stirrups. Independent behaviour of BFRP reinforced beams and steel fiber reinforced beams were evaluated and the effect of combining BFRP bars and steel fiber was investigated in detail. It is found that combining steel fibers with BFRP could change the shear failure of BFRP reinforced beam to flexural failure. Further, the existing analytical models were reviewed and compared to predict the shear strength of both FRP reinforced and steel fiber reinforced beams. Based on the review, the appropriate model… More >

Experimental and Numerical Investigations on Multicellular GFRP Bridge Deck Panels

    M. P. Muthuraj1,2, K. Nithyapriya1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.48, No.2, pp. 119-132, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.048.119

Abstract The maintenance, upgrading and replacement of existing bridges have become urgent requirement and a challenging task for the construction sector. Bridge decks made of fibre reinforced polymers (FRP), have been widely adopted both in new construction and replacement of existing bridge decks. This paper reports the studies carried out hand lay-up multicellular glass fibre reinforced polymer. Multicellular bridge deck panels with various cross sectional profiles have been analysed using a general purpose finite element software ANSYS. A cross sectional profile that satisfied the deflection criteria with minimum weight was selected for analysis and fabrication. Six multicellular GFRP composite bridge deck… More >
