Knockdown of Upregulated Gene 11 (URG11) Inhibits Proliferation, Invasion, and b-Catenin Expression in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Cells

    Zhe-liang Liu*, Jiao Wu, Lin-xian Wang, Jin-feng Yang, Gao-ming Xiao*, Hui-ping Sun, Yue-jun Chen*

    Oncology Research, Vol.24, No.3, pp. 197-204, 2016, DOI:10.3727/096504016X14648701447850

Abstract Upregulated gene 11 (URG11), a new gene upregulated by hepatitis B virus X protein, was found to be involved in the development and progression of several tumors. However, the role of URG11 in human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has not yet been determined. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to explore the role of URG11 in human NSCLC. Our results found that URG11 was highly expressed in human NSCLC tissues compared with matched normal lung tissues, and higher levels were found in NSCLC cell lines in comparison to the normal lung cell More >

Abstract Most of the gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) have gain-of-function mutations in the KIT gene, which can be used as a prognostic marker for the biological behavior of tumors, predictive marker for the response of tyrosine kinase inhibitors, and diagnostic marker. Researchers have focused on PDGFRA mutations because of both their prognostic and predictive potential and DOG1 positivity for diagnosis on GISTs. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect DOG1, PDGFRA, and KIT mutations on the prediction of the outcome for GIST management. Polymerase chain reaction was performed for KIT gene exons 9, 11, 13,… More >

Interleukin-21 is associated with IgG1 and IgG3 antibodies to erythrocyte-binding antigen-175 peptide 4 of Plasmodium falciparum in Gabonese children with acute falciparum malaria

    Ludovic Mewono1,2,*, Davy W. Matondo Maya1,2,*, Pierre-Blaise Matsiegui1,2, Selidji T. Agnandji1,2, Eric Kendjo2,3, Fortune Barondi1, Saadou Issifou1, Peter G. Kremsner1,2, Elie Mavoungou1,2

    European Cytokine Network, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 30-36, 2008, DOI:10.1684/ecn.2008.0114

Abstract Interleukin-21 (IL-21) is a newly described, typical, four-helix cytokine showing significant homology with IL-2, IL-4 and IL-15. It regulates IgG1 production and co-operates with IL-4 in the production of multiple antibody classes in vivo. IgG1 and IgG3 are critically involved in the development of clinical immunity to Plasmodium falciparum malaria. However, the mechanisms driving class-switch recombination towards these specific isotypes remain to be elucidated. Seventy-three children with P. falciparum-positive, thick blood smears were recruited from the pediatric wards of the Albert Schweitzer Hospital and the General Hospital in Lambaréné. Children were grouped into two categories according to… More >

IL-27 induces the production of IgG1 by human B cells

    European Cytokine Network, Vol.17, No.4, pp. 281-289, 2006, DOI:10.1684/ecn.2006.0045

Abstract It has been reported that IL-27 specifically induces the production of IgG2a by mouse B cells and inhibits IL-4-induced IgG1 synthesis. Here, we show that human naïve cord blood expresses a functional IL-27 receptor, consisting of the TCCR and gp130 subunits, although at lower levels as compared to naïve and memory splenic B cells. IL-27 does not induce proliferative responses and does not increase IgG1 production by CD19+ CD27+ memory B cells. However, it induces a low, but significant production of IgG1 by naïve CD19+ CD27 IgD+ IgG spleen and cord blood B cells, activated via CD40, whereas… More >
