    Tunable Luminescence Properties and Elucidating the Electronic Structures of Single-Phase Spherical BaWO4: Dy3+, Tm3+, Eu3+ Phosphors for Warm-White-Lighting

    Abstract A series of uniform single-phase spherical BaWO4: Dy3+, Tm3+, Eu3+ phosphors were prepared via a microwave hydrothermal method by using trisodium citrate dehydrate as surfactant. The phase structure, morphology and photoluminescence properties were measured by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and fluorescence spectrometer, respectively. The results show that uniform spherical microcrystals with diameters in the range of 2–4 μm are obtained. And the phase and morphology of samples are not significantly changed by doping rare earth (RE3+) ions.     Abstract Drug discovery research to fight lung cancer is incessantly challenged by drug resistance. In this study, we used drug-resistant lung cancer stem like cells (A549-CS) to compare the efficacy of standard drugs like cisplatin (DDP) and gemcitabine (GEM) with a novel arylidene derivative IOX-101. A549-CS was derived from regular A549 cells by growing in special media. Resistance proteins were detected using Western blotting. Cell proliferations were assessed by MTT assay.     Prostate cancer screening practices amongst physicians in the North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network

    Abstract Introduction: The prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening test is controversial and can result in both over-diagnosis and over-treatment. Recently, the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care (CTFPHC) has recommended against routine screening for prostate cancer. We sought to determine how the CTFPHC has impacted the practice patterns among family physicians in the North Simcoe Muskoka (NSM) Local Health Integration Network (LHIN).

    Abstract In this paper, the choice and parametrisation of finite deformation polyconvex isotropic hyperelastic models to describe the behaviour of a class of defect-free monocrystalline metal materials at the molecular level is examined. The article discusses some physical, mathematical and numerical demands which in our opinion should be fulfilled by elasticity models to be useful.     Abstract During the last decades, multigrid methods have been extensively used in order to solve large scale linear systems derived from the discretization of partial differential equations using the finite difference method.     Abstract Introduction: Level 1 evidence demonstrates the benefit of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) for pT3 disease and positive margins. The role of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) after PORT remains to be defined from results of ongoing randomized trials. This study was undertaken to determine the factors influencing the current use of ADT after PORT amongst Canadian radiation oncologists.
