    Antibacterial activity of Falkenbergia hillebrandii (Born) from the Indian coast against human pathogens

    Abstract The antibacterial property of the red algae, Falkenbergia hillebrandii (Born) collected from the southwest coast of India (Indian Ocean) was evaluated against three multidrug resistant human pathogens. Four different solvents: ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, methanol and phosphate buffer saline (PBS) were used with this purpose. Dried samples extracted with methanol showed broadest and highest antimicrobial activity when compared to other solvents. However, PBS extract showed no antibacterial activity.     Abstract Wide spreading of pepper blight on new plantations and on different production areas in Mexico, and the difficulty in controlling this disease, makes it compulsory to develop new control measures. It is expected that these measures provide new tools for controlling this disease in the context of integrated management strategies.     Abstract Flow past a circular cylinder looses stability at a Reynolds number,Re~47. It has been shown, in the past, that the linear stability analysis (LSA) of the steady state solution can predict not only the critical Re, but also the non-dimensional frequency, St, of the associated instability.     Diffuse xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis with psoas abscess in a pregnant woman

    Abstract We report the first case, to our knowledge, of xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP) with psoas abscess occurring during pregnancy. A 37-year-old woman in the third trimester of pregnancy presented with low back pain and a fever. From sonographic features, a multidisciplinary team decided to perform computed tomography of the abdomen with contrast agent injection, which strongly suggested diffuse XGP of the left kidney with a psoas abscess.     Abstract To characterize largely deformed spin-free reference configuration of materials, we have to construct an orthogonal transformation tensor Q relative to the fixed frame, such that the tensorial equation Q˙ = WQ holds for a given spin history W.     Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis in a 1-year old boy

    Abstract Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP) is a rare, chronic inflammatory lesion of the kidney associated with both chronic infection and obstruction. Most common in middle-aged females, it is important to recognize in children because it may be confused with childhood renal malignancies particularly Wilms’ tumor. We report a case of a 1-year old male with antenatally detected and postnatally confirmed hydronephrosis. Further investigation revealed a left incomplete duplex collecting system with obstructing lower pole stones, pelvicaliectasis and widespread foci of calcification.
