Reactive Integration of Amino-Functional 9,10-Dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO)-modified metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) into Polyurea Balancing Flame Retardancy and Mechanical Properties

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.43, No.1, 2026, DOI:10.32604/jpm.2026.076443 - 03 April 2026

Abstract Polyurea (PUA) is widely valued in protective coatings and structural reinforcement because of its impressive mechanical strength and resistance to corrosion. Its high flammability, together with the poor dispersion that often comes with simply blending in flame retardants, continues to limit its use in demanding environments. To overcome these issues, this study introduces a different approach. We grafted 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) onto the surface of a metal–organic framework (MOF) and then partially amino-functionalized the DOPO layer, ultimately creating an amino-modified DOPO–MOF hybrid. The introduced amino groups can directly react with the isocyanate (–NCO) groups in the… More >

    Chae-Young Lee1, Yun-Jung Choi2,*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.28, No.3, 2026, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2026.077116 - 31 March 2026

Abstract Background: Adolescent suicide remains a pressing public health concern in South Korea and worldwide, ranking as one of the leading causes of death among youth. Identifying modifiable risk and protective factors is critical for prevention strategies. Physical activity has been suggested as one such factor due to its potential mental health benefits. This study aimed to examine whether associations between physical activity and suicidality differ by activity type and by stage of suicidal behavior, distinguishing suicidal ideation, planning, and attempts among Korean adolescents. Methods: This cross-sectional secondary analysis used data from the 20th Korea Youth Risk… More >

Jingfei Shi#, Yi Ding#, Hui Lu*

    BIOCELL, Vol.50, No.3, 2026, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2026.073956 - 23 March 2026

Abstract Objective: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS). Soluble interleukin-2 receptor alpha (sIL-2Rα) has been implicated in MS pathogenesis, but its mechanisms remain unclear. This study investigates how sIL-2Rα exacerbates MS by modulating microglial activation and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) in an experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) mouse model. Methods: Female C57BL/6J mice were induced with EAE and treated with sIL-2Rα. Clinical symptoms, histopathology, and molecular changes were analyzed. Microglial activation was assessed via immunohistochemistry, Western blot, and RNA sequencing. In vitro, ADCC-mediated oligodendrocyte injury was evaluated using More >

Abstract Objectives: Drug resistance is the major determinant of chemotherapy failure, leading to relapse and tumor progression, demonstrating the urgent need for novel antineoplastic drugs. This study aimed to evaluate the anticancer potential of two novel pyrazole derivatives, P3C.1 and P3C.2, and to elucidate their mechanism of action in cancer cells. Methods: The cytotoxicity of the compounds was evaluated across 27 different cancer cell lines via a nuclear staining assay. Subsequent flow cytometric and biochemical analyses were performed to assess reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, apoptosis induction, mitochondrial integrity, and cell cycle progression. Additional studies included… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.34, No.4, 2026, DOI:10.32604/or.2026.073080 - 23 March 2026

Abstract Objective: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, non-coding RNAs that play a key role in the development of chemoresistance in various cancer types, including colorectal cancer (CRC). In this study, we aimed to study the underlying mechanisms of miRNA in chemotherapy-resistant CRC. Methods: LoVo CRC cell line was exposed to oxaliplatin at an increased dose, and cells were cultured in the presence of oxaliplatin to develop LoVoOXR cells. Microarray and Quantitative Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR), western blot, and transwell assay were used to evaluate the chemoresistance in LoVoOXR CRC cells. Results: Microarray and qRT-PCR analysis showed… More >

Ghost-Attention You Only Look Once (GA-YOLO): Enhancing Small Object Detection for Traffic Monitoring

    Xinyue Zhang1, Yuxuan Zhao2, Jeremy S. Smith3, Yuechun Wang4, Gabriela Mogos5, Ka Lok Man1, Yutao Yue6,7,8,9, Young-Ae Jung10,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.87, No.2, 2026, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2026.075415 - 12 March 2026

Abstract Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) represent a cornerstone in modern traffic management, leveraging surveillance cameras as primary visual sensors to monitor road conditions. However, the fixed characteristics of public surveillance cameras, coupled with inherent image resolution limitations, pose significant challenges for Small Object Detection (SOD) in traffic surveillance. To address these challenges, this paper proposes Ghost-Attention YOLO (GA-YOLO), a lightweight model derived from YOLOv8 and specifically designed for traffic SOD. To enhance the attention of small targets and critical features, a novel channel-spatial attention mechanism, termed Small-object Extend Attention (SEA), is introduced. In addition, the original… More >

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.33, No.1, pp. 51-62, 2026, DOI:10.32604/cju.2025.069420 - 28 February 2026

Abstract Mammalian fertilization involves the migration of spermatozoa through the female reproductive system. Early embryonic development is a consequence of several steps and signaling pathways being activated, as well as biochemical and morphological modifications of spermatozoa that enable them to penetrate the membrane of mature oocytes.
There are some crucial steps known to clearly explain the process of fertilization, starting with hyperactivation of spermatozoa, mutual recognition, and binding of gametes mediated by receptors located on the surface membranes of both gametes. The final step is followed by oocyte activation, which is primarily triggered via sperm-derived factors, inducing a More >

EMA-GhostConv YOLOv8 Based Enhanced Vehicle Detection in Intelligent Transportation Applications

    A. S. M. Masudur Rahman1, Muhammad Zunair Zamir1, Syed Sajid Ullah2,*, Salman Khan2, Maria Saman1, Naqash Bahadar1

    Journal on Artificial Intelligence, Vol.8, pp. 119-136, 2026, DOI:10.32604/jai.2026.076274 - 24 February 2026

Abstract Vehicle detection plays a pivotal role in autonomous driving, traffic monitoring, and intelligent surveillance systems. While YOLOv8 offers strong real-time performance, its detection accuracy is often limited by insufficient feature stability and suboptimal multi-scale feature fusion in complex scenes. To address these issues, we propose an enhanced YOLOv8 framework that retains the original backbone and detection head for efficiency while introducing targeted improvements to the neck architecture. Specifically, the model incorporates an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) feature layer to stabilize learning through temporally smoothed feature representations, which reduces noise and enhances generalization, and integrates GhostConv… More >
