A case of transitional cell carcinoma seeding of small bowel anastomosis after radical cystoprostatectomy

Stephen A. Lazarou, Munir Jamal, Thomas Short

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.10, No.4, pp. 1945-1946, 2003

Abstract We present a case in which a man developed transitional cell carcinoma of the small bowel 6 months after having undergone a cystoprostatectomy and ileal conduit urinary diversion. More >

    CASE REPORT

Feasibility of microsurgical reconstruction of the male reproductive tract after percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (PESA)

Peter T. K. Chan, Jamie Libman

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.10, No.6, pp. 2070-2073, 2003

Abstract For obstructive azoospermia, surgical sperm retrieval from the epididymis for IVF/ICSI is an established management. However, various recent studies have established that surgical reconstruction with vasovasostomy or vasoepididymostomy remains a more cost-effective treatment option than upfront assisted reproduction. After epididymal sperm retrieval, fibrosis and scarring of the punctured epididymal tubule can lead to complete epididymal obstruction. The feasibility of surgical reconstruction after surgical epididymal sperm retrieval has not been established. We describe two cases of bilateral microsurgical vasoepididymostomy, using a new 2-suture longitudinal intussusception technique we previously described, after previous successful bilateral percutaneous epididymal sperm More >

Micropropagation of Ilex dumosa (Aquifoliaceae) from nodal segments in a tissue culture system

    C. Luna, P. Sansberro*, L. Mroginski, J. Tarragó

    BIOCELL, Vol.27, No.2, pp. 205-212, 2003, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2003.27.205

Abstract Micropropagation of Ilex dumosa var. dumosa R. (“yerba señorita”) from nodal segments containing one axillary bud was investigated. Shoot regeneration from explants of six-year-old plants was readily achieved in 1/4 strength Murashige and Skoog medium (1/4 MS) plus 30 gr·L-1 sucrose and supplemented with 4.4 µM BA. Further multiplication and elongation of the regenerated shoots were obtained by subculture in a fresh medium of similar composition with 1.5 gr·L-1 sucrose. Rooting induction from shoots were achieved in two steps: 1) 7 days in 1/4 MS (30 gr·L-1 sucrose, 0.25 % Phytagel®) with 7.3 µM IBA and 2) 21 days in More >

Accuracy of Co-rotational Formulation for 3-D Timoshenko's Beam

    M. Iura1, Y. Suetake2, S. N. Atluri3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.4, No.2, pp. 249-258, 2003, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2003.004.249

Abstract An accuracy of finite element solutions for 3-D Timoshenko's beams, obtained using a co-rotational formulation, is discussed. The co-rotational formulation has often been used with an assumption that the relative deformations are small. A fundamental question, therefore, has been raised as to whether or not the numerical solutions obtained approach the solutions of the exact theory. In this paper, from theoretical point of view, we investigate the accuracy of the co-rotational formulation for 3-D Timoshenko's beam undergoing finite strains and finite rotations. It is shown that the use of the conventional secant coordinates fails to More >

    Topical steroid therapy for phimosis

Todd M. Webster, Michael P. Leonard

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.9, No.2, pp. 1492-1495, 2002

Abstract Introduction: Circumcision has been the traditional treatment for phimosis. Recent reports of medical management of phimosis with topical steroids quote success rates of 67%-95%. We present our results with topical steroid therapy for treatment of phimosis.
Materials and methods: Retrospective review of 69 boys between the age of 3 and 13 years (average 7.4) who were referred to Urology clinic over a one year period (August 1999-2000) with phimosis. Boys without a distal preputial ring were excluded. A course of triamcinolone cream was prescribed and parents/patients were instructed to apply it to the preputial outlet twice daily… More >
