Dark and Bright Channel Priors for Haze Removal in Day and Night Images

    U. Hari, A. Ruhan Bevi*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.2, pp. 957-967, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.023605 - 03 May 2022

Abstract Removal of noise from images is very important as a clear, denoised image is essential for any application. In this article, a modified haze removal algorithm is developed by applying combined dark channel prior and multi-scale retinex theory. The combined dark channel prior (DCP) and bright channel prior (BCP) together with the multi-scale retinex (MSR) algorithm is used to dynamically optimize the transmission map and thereby improve visibility. The proposed algorithm performs effective denoising of images considering the properties of retinex theory. The proposed method removes haze on an image scene through estimation of the More >

    Biqing Shu1,2, Lu Hong3, Suxia Li1,4, Yupeng Tao2, Jianxin Cui1, Naiqiang Fu2, Junbao Yu2, Chen Li2, Xiaoning Lu1,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.8, pp. 2203-2216, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.019882 - 25 April 2022

Abstract In this work, we used tensile tests to analyze the tangential failure forms of raw bamboo and determine a relationship between tangential tensile strength, elastic modulus, position, density, and moisture content. We found that the tangential mechanical properties of the culm wall were mainly dependent on the mechanical properties of the basic structure of the thin wall. Formulas for calculating the tangential tensile strength of moso bamboo and adjusting the moisture content were also determined. The tangential tensile strength and the tangential tensile modulus of elasticity (TTMOE) followed: outer > middle > inner, and diaphragm More >

Abstract A variety of plants were colchicine treated to double their chromosome number. Chromosomes are genetic carriers that determine the individual traits of organisms. The doubling of chromosomes will lead to modifications in plant morphology, physiology and genetics. To determine the response of mulberry trees induced by colchicine, using mulberry variety Yu-711 leaves as research materials, two small RNA libraries (control and experimental groups) were constructed. It was found that 45 known miRNA genes and 78 predicted novel miRNA genes in the sequence results. A comparison of data between the control group and the experimental group… More >

    MARCO TATULLO1,*, LUISA LIMONGELLI2, ROSA MARIA MARANO3, ALESSANDRA VALLETTA4, ANGELA TEMPESTA2, SANDRO RENGO4

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.8, pp. 1837-1842, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.020570 - 22 April 2022

Abstract The scientific community is continuously working to translate the novel biomedical techniques into effective medical treatments. CRISPR-Cas 9 system (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats-9), commonly known as the “molecular scissor”, represents a recently developed biotechnology able to improve the quality and the efficacy of traditional treatments, related to several human diseases, such as chronic diseases, neurodegenerative pathologies and, interestingly, oral diseases. Of course, dental medicine has notably increased the use of biotechnologies to ensure modern and conservative approaches: in this landscape, the use of CRISPR-Cas-9 system may speed and personalize the traditional therapies, ensuring More >

Abstract Kernel size-related traits, including kernel length, kernel width, and kernel thickness, are critical components in determining yield and kernel quality in maize (Zea mays L.). Dissecting the phenotypic characteristics of these traits, and discovering the candidate chromosomal regions for these traits, are of potential importance for maize yield and quality improvement. In this study, a total of 139 F2:3 family lines derived from EHel and B73, a distinct line with extremely low ear height (EHel), was used for phenotyping and QTL mapping of three kernel size-related traits, including 10-kernel length (KL), 10-kernel width (KWid), and 10-kernel… More >

Monolayer MoS2/n-Si Heterostructure Schottky Solar Cell

    Omar Salih Omar*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.7, pp. 1979-1988, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018765 - 07 March 2022

Abstract Monolayer MoS2 has a promising optoelectronics property, with a bandgap in the visible range; the material is a potential candidate for solar cell applications. In this work, we grew MoS2 monolayers using a low-pressure chemical vapor deposition approach. To produce uniform wafer-scale MoS2 monolayer films, precursors molybdenum dioxide (MoO2) and sulfur (S) are utilized. Atomic force microscopy was used to quantify the thickness of the monolayers, and the result was validated by Raman spectroscopy. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to confirm the crystalline quality of the monolayers, and photoluminescence spectroscopy was used to evaluate their optical More >

A New DOPO-Eugenol Adduct as an Effective Flame Retardant for Epoxy Thermosets with Improved Mechanical Properties

    Daqin Zhang1,2, Chufeng Yang3, Huayang Ran1,2, Juanli Wang1,2,*, Jintao Wan1,2,*, Yuhu Li1,2, Pujun Jin1,2, Daodao Hu1,2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.7, pp. 1797-1811, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018754 - 07 March 2022

Abstract The development of efficient green flame retardants is an important way to realize more sustainable epoxy thermosets and downstream materials. In this work, a monoepoxide is synthesized through O-glycidylation of eugenol, and then reacted with DOPO (9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphophenanthrene-10-oxide) to obtain a new bio-based flame retardant, DOPO-GE. DOPO-GE is blended with a bisphenol A epoxy prepolymer exhibiting good compatibility and DDS (4,4′-diaminodiphenylsulfone) is used as the curing agent to afford epoxy thermosets. Although DOPO-GE leads to the reduced glass transition temperature of the thermosets, the storage modulus increases considerably. The DOPO-GE-modified thermosets exhibit the high thermal stability… More >
