    A comparison study on different MLPG (LBIE) formulations

    Abstract Comparison studies on the accuracy provided by five different elastostatic Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) type formulations, based on Local Boundary Integral Equation (LBIE) considerations, are made. The main differences of these MLPG(LBIE) formulations, as they compared to each other, are concentrated on the treatment of tractions on the local and global boundaries and the way of imposing the boundary conditions of the elastostatic problem. Both the Moving Least Square (MLS) approximation scheme and the Radial Basis Point Interpolation Functions (RBPIF) are exploited for the interpolation of the interior and boundary variables.     Abstract A meshless local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) method is applied to solve bending problems of shear deformable shallow shells described by the Reissner theory. Both static and dynamic loads are considered. For transient elastodynamic case the Laplace-transform is used to eliminate the time dependence of the field variables. A weak formulation with a unit test function transforms the set of governing equations into local integral equations on local subdomains in the mean surface of the shell.     Abstract The Bauschinger Effect (BE) impact on KIN– the combined, Mode I, 3-D Stress Intensity Factor (SIF) distributions for arrays of radial, internal, surface cracks emanating from the bore of a fully or partially autofrettaged thick-walled cylinder is investigated.     Abstract This paper concerns the stability, convergence of accuracy and cost efficiency of four various formulations for solution of boundary value problems in non-homogeneous elastic solids with functionally graded Young's modulus. The meshless point interpolation method is employed with using various basis functions. The interaction among the elastic continuum constituents is considered in the discretized formulation either by collocation of the governing equations or by integral satisfaction of the force equilibrium on local sub-domains.     Abstract The Rajendran-Grove (RG) ceramic damage model is a three-dimensional internal variable based constitutive model for ceramic materials, with the considerations of micro-crack extension and void collapse. In the present paper, the RG ceramic model is implemented into the newly developed computational framework based on the Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) method, for solving high-speed impact and penetration problems. The ability of the RG model to describe the internal damage evolution and the effective material response is investigated.     Abstract The paper addresses the problem of impact on layered fibre composites. The behaviour of composite laminates under impact loading is dependent not only on the velocity but also on the mass and geometry of the impactor. Using micromechanical Mori-Tanaka approach, mechanical properties of the laminate have been calculated utilizing the material constants of the fibre and matrix.     Abstract Variations in DNA synthesis (DNAs) and Nucleolar Organizer Regions (NORs) were studied in the littoral cell population from regenerating liver of C3HS inbred mice standardized for periodicity analysis. Immunohistochemical detection of Bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) with a monoclonal antibody and silver staining of NORs (AgNORs) were assessed by means of a digital image analysis system in histological sections.     Abstract The aim of the present study was analyze, by histological and morphometrical studies, mandibular glands of Melipona bicolor queens collected from monogynic and polygynic colonies and compare their level of development. The results showed that the glands of physogastric queens from monogynic colony present a higher level of activity in relation to the queens of polygynic colonies; this is explained by the fact that just a unique queen controls the monogynic colony.     Abstract This paper presents the results of a three-dimensional finite element study to simulate impacts of the models of a car and a pickup truck against a model of modified thrie-beam guardrail and to analyze the crashworthiness of the roadside guardrail. Nonlinear springs were used to simulate the rotation of the post below ground level. The simulation results of an event of a pickup truck impacting the modified thrie-beam guardrail model are presented.     Abstract The present paper focuses on the comparative investigation of different homogenization methods for fiber composites, void solids and rigid inclusion media. The effective properties of multi-phase media are calculated by three methods, i.e. direct average method of stress and strain, direct average method of strain energy and two-scale expansion method.
