SORET AND DUFOUR EFFECTS ON MHD RADIATIVE HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER FLOW OF A JEFFREY FLUID OVER A STRETCHING SHEET

    D. Harish Babua , B. Venkateswarlub , P.V. Satya Narayanac,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-9, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.5

Abstract This paper studies the combined effects of Soret (thermal-diffusion) and Dufour (diffusion-thermo) on magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) boundary layer flow of a Jeffrey fluid past a stretching surface with chemical reaction and heat source. Using the similarity transformations, the governing equations are transformed into a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations (ODE’s). The resulting equations are then solved numerically by using the shooting method along with Runge-Kutta fourth order integration scheme. Numerical results for the velocity, temperature and concentration distributions as well as the skin-friction coefficient, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are discussed in detail and displayed More >

Abstract An analysis is performed to investigate the effects of Joule heating and thermal diffusion on unsteady, viscous, incompressible, electrically conducting MHD heat and mass transfer free convection Casson fluid flow past an oscillating semi-infinite vertical moving porous plate in the presence of heat source/sink and an applied transverse magnetic field. Initially it is assumed that the plate and surrounding fluid at the same temperature and concentration at all the points in stationary condition in the entire flow region. Thereafter a constant temperature is given to the plate hence the buoyancy effect is supporting the fluid… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-8, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.38

Abstract The effects of radiation absorption, first order chemical reaction and diffusion thermo on MHD free convective heat and mass transfer flow of a nanofluid past a semi infinite vertical flat plate are analyzed. The temperature and concentration at the surface are assumed to be oscillatory type. Four types of cubic nano particles which are uniform and size namely, Silver (Ag), Aluminum (Al2O3), Copper (Cu) and Titanium Oxide (TiO2) with water as a base fluid is taken into account. The set of ordinary differential equations are solved by using regular perturbation technique. The impact of various flow More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-12, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.21

Abstract A study on unsteady MHD natural convection flow of an optically thin, heat radiating, incompressible, viscous, chemically reactive, temperature dependent heat absorbing and electrically conducting fluid past an exponentially accelerated infinite vertical plate having ramped temperature, embedded in a porous medium is carried out, considering the effects of Hall current and rotation. Governing equations are non-dimensionalized and Laplace Transform Technique is used to find the exact solutions for non-dimensional velocity, temperature and concentration fields. The quantities of physical interest i.e. shear stress at the plate, rate of heat and mass transfers at the plate are More >

    Stanford Shateyi

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-6, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.7

Abstract The spectral relaxation method is employed to examine natural convective heat and mass transfer, MHD flow over a permeable moving vertical plate with convective boundary conditions in the presence of viscous dissipation, thermal radiation and chemical reaction. The governing partial differential equations were transformed into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using a similarity approach. The resultant dimensionless ordinary equations were numerically solved by employing an effective Relaxation spectral algorithm with Chebyshev scheme. The pertinent results are then displayed in tabular form and graphically More >

Abstract Numerical study of double-diffusive natural convection flow and entropy generation in 3D trapezoidal solar distiller was performed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). In this research the flow, provoked by the interaction of chemical species diffusions and the thermal energy, is assumed to be laminar. Using potential vector-vorticity formulation in its three-dimensional form, the governing equations are formulated and solved by the numerical methodology based on the finite volume method. The main objective is to analyze the effects of buoyancy ratio for opposed temperature and concentration gradients and to focus the attention on three-dimensional aspects and More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-12, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.5

Abstract Present study concerned with the theoretical work with numerical investigation of MHD transient naturally convective and higher order chemically reactive viscoelastic fluid with nano-particle flow through a vertical porous stretching sheet with the effects of heat generation and radiation absorption. A boundary layer approximation is carried out to develop a flow model representing time dependent momentum, energy, and concentration equations. The governing model equations in partial differential equations (PDEs) form were transformed into a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODEs) by using non-similar technique. Explicit Finite Difference Method (EFDM) was employed by implementing an… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.13, No.2, pp. 85-105, 2017, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2017.013.085

Abstract We consider an ascending laminar air flow in a vertical channel formed by two parallel flat plates wetted by a thin water film and under different temperature and concentration conditions. The study includes a numerical finite volume method for the treatment of the double diffusion problem, where the analytical solution is given to the thermal diffusion. The analytical study showed that the reversed flow is observed only under some wall temperature conditions and also for certain values of Re/Gr. The reversed flow is also strongly dependent on the aspect ratio A2, which is based on the… More >

UREA-WATER DROPLET PHASE CHANGE AND REACTION MODELLING: MULTI-COMPONENT EVAPORATION APPROACH

    Viraj S. Shirodkar*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.7, pp. 1-8, 2016, DOI:10.5098/hmt.7.5

Abstract Urea-water solution droplet evaporation is modelled using multi-component droplet evaporation approach. The heat and mass transfer process of a multi-component droplet is implemented in the Langrangian framework through a custom code in ANSYS-Fluent R15. The evaporation process is defined by a convection-diffusion controlled model which includes the effect of Stefan flow. A rapid mixing model assumption is used for the droplet internal physics. The code is tested on a single multi-component droplet and the predicted evaporation rates at different ambient temperatures are compared with the experimental data in the literature. The approach is used to More >

    P.V. Satya Narayanaa,*, B.Venkateswarlub

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.7, pp. 1-10, 2016, DOI:10.5098/hmt.7.8

Abstract In this paper, we study the chemical reaction and heat source effects on unsteady MHD free convection heat and mass transfer of a nanofluid flow past a semi-infinite flat plate in a rotating system. The plate is assumed to oscillate in time with steady frequency so that the solutions of the boundary layer are the similar oscillatory type. The innovation of the present work is closed-form analytic solutions are obtained for the momentum, energy and concentration equations. The influence of various parameters entering into the problem in the nanofluid velocity, temperature and concentration distributions, as More >
