    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.12, pp. 3491-3504, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.021302 - 14 July 2022

Abstract The formation process of aromatic hydrocarbon tar during the pyrolysis process of biomass components of cellulose and lignin was carried out by quantum chemical calculation based on density functional theory method B3LYP/6-31G++(d, p). 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural was chosen as the model compound of cellulose and hemicellulose, and syringaldehyde was chosen as the model compound of lignin. The calculation results show that the formation process of cellulose monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon tar is the conversion process of benzene ring from furan ring, and the highest reaction energy barrier appears in the process of decarbonylation, which is 370.8 kJ/mol. Abstract Hedera helix is an evergreen ornamental plant that is resistant to cool but not high temperature and deserves to be further researched for improving its adaptability to heat stress. Two Hedera helix cultivars, heat-tolerant (HT) ‘Jessica’ and heat-sensitive (HS) ‘Shamrock’, were used for differences analyses of transcriptome. We detected 6179 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 5992 DEGs in ‘Jessica’ and ‘Shamrock’ to heat stress, respectively. Among these, 1983 upregulated DEGs and 1400 downregulated DEGs were shared between both varieties, resulting in enhancement of various pathways such as biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, glyoxylate dicarboxylate metabolism, and protein processing… More >

Possible mechanisms of bidirectional nuclear transport during neuronal migration

    CHUYING ZHOU1, MINEKO KENGAKU1,2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.11, pp. 2357-2361, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.021050 - 07 July 2022

Abstract Neuronal migration is a fundamental process of mammalian brain development. In migrating neurons, the nuclear membrane protein Nesprin-2 has been shown to serve as an adaptor to pull the nucleus along microtubule tracks. Current evidence has shown that Nesprin-2 binds to both the minus-end-directed motor dynein as well as the plus-end-directed motor kinesin. However, translocation of neuronal nucleus has long been thought to be primarily driven by dynein motors. Intriguing questions could be raised about the role of kinesin in nuclear transport and how the activities of opposing motors are coordinated through interactions with Nesprin. More >

Abstract N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification is the most widespread and conserved internal mRNA modification in mammalian cells. It greatly affects genetic regulation by enhancing the involvement of diverse cellular enzymes and thus, plays a significant role in basic life processes. Numerous studies on m6A modification identified FTO as a crucial demethylase that participates in various biological processes. Not only does FTO play a pivotal role in obesity-related conditions, but it also influences the occurrence, development, and prognosis of several cancers, such as acute myeloid leukemia, breast cancer, liver cancer, and lung cancer. Moreover, FTO also shows a close association More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.6, pp. 1649-1665, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.018789 - 27 June 2022

Abstract Fracture grouting is widely used for building foundation reinforcement, however the underpinning mechanisms are still not clear. Using numerical results about a single-hole fracture grouting process as a basis, a model composed of soil and grouting veins has been created to analyze the reinforcement mechanism. The influence weights of the grouting vein skeleton and compaction effect have been studied, thereby obtaining relevant information on the compressive modulus of the considered composite soil. The research results show that the compaction effect plays a leading role in the soil fracture grouting reinforcement. The grouting pressure, the hardened More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.6, pp. 1815-1826, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.020271 - 27 June 2022

Abstract The numerical simulation of polymer flooding is a complex task as this process involves complex physical and chemical reactions, and multiple sets of characteristic parameters are required to properly set the simulation. At present, such characteristic parameters are mainly obtained by empirical methods, which typically result in relatively large errors. By analyzing experimentally polymer adsorption, permeability decline, inaccessible pore volume, viscosity-concentration relationship, and rheology, in this study, a conversion equation is provided to convert the experimental data into the parameters needed for the numerical simulation. Some examples are provided to demonstrate the reliability of the More > Graphic Abstract

    Xiaofang Qiu1,2, Zhi Qin1,2,*, Wunan Wan1,2, Jinquan Zhang1,2, Jinliang Guo1,2, Shibin Zhang1,2, Jinyue Xia3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.2, pp. 2577-2589, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.028757 - 16 June 2022

Abstract In recent years, Blockchain is gaining prominence as a hot topic in academic research. However, the consensus mechanism of blockchain has been criticized in terms of energy consumption and performance. Although Proof-of-Authority (PoA) consensus mechanism, as a lightweight consensus mechanism, is more efficient than traditional Proof-of-Work (PoW) and Proof-of-Stake (PoS), it suffers from the problem of centralization. To this end, on account of analyzing the shortcomings of existing consensus mechanisms, this paper proposes a dynamic reputation-based consensus mechanism for blockchain. This scheme allows nodes with reputation value higher than a threshold apply to become a… More >

    Huiping Jiang1,*, Demeng Wu1, Xingqun Tang1, Zhongjie Li1, Wenbo Wu2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.2, pp. 2697-2712, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.027856 - 16 June 2022

Abstract Emotions serve various functions. The traditional emotion recognition methods are based primarily on readily accessible facial expressions, gestures, and voice signals. However, it is often challenging to ensure that these non-physical signals are valid and reliable in practical applications. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are more successful than other signal recognition methods in recognizing these characteristics in real-time since they are difficult to camouflage. Although EEG signals are commonly used in current emotional recognition research, the accuracy is low when using traditional methods. Therefore, this study presented an optimized hybrid pattern with an attention mechanism (FFT_CLA) for… More >
