LONG SU#, ZHEXUAN LIN#, HUI LI, HONGJUN LUO, WENHONG LUO*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.7, pp. 1725-1732, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.018508 - 17 March 2022

Abstract Divicine is an active pyrimidine aglycone, generated from vicine by the enzyme β-glucosidase upon ingestion of fava beans. In this study, we investigated the effect of divicine on cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and explored the potential mechanisms. Incubation HUVECs with 18.5–85.1 μM divicine resulted in a concentration and time dependent decrease of cell viability, followed by decrease of cellular reduced glutathione, as well as increase of reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA), and labile iron pool. Transmission electron microscopy confirmed that the divicine treated HUVECs’ mitochondria had shrunk. Importantly, the administration of More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.7, pp. 1327-1340, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.019870 - 14 March 2022

Abstract Seed shattering refers to the phenomenon in which the pods split along the abdominal and back sutures before the crop is received, so that the seeds are spread. Seed shattering is vital to the reproduction of their offspring in wild plants, but it is also the main cause of crop yield loss reason. Pod-explosion resistance is a complex process of physical and physiological and biochemical reactions. Soybean seed shattering phenomenon is widespread, which severely restricts the development of soybean industry. Seed shattering (pod cracking or fruit dropping) is essential for the reproduction of its offspring… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.7, pp. 1517-1528, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.019630 - 14 March 2022

Abstract Saussurea medusa, Saussurea hypsipeta and Saussurea obvallata are typical alpine snowline plants growing in the Qinghai-Tibet plateau. They are characterized by a specialized morphology. S. medusa and S. hypsipeta have very dense trichomes on whole plant, whereas S. obvallata has transparent bracts covered inflorescences. The different forms reflect their adaptation to cold environments. To investigate the different mechanisms of adaptation of these species to cold temperatures, transcriptome sequencing was performed in three species of Saussurea DC. A total of 116394 137237 and 113879 Unigenes were identified from S. medusa, S. hypsipeta and S. obvallata, respectively. Of these, 55909 (48.03%), 65519 (47.74%) and 51889 (45.56%) Unigenes… More >

    Naigong Yu*, Hejie Yu

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.2, pp. 1147-1169, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.019430 - 14 March 2022

Abstract The entorhinal-hippocampus structure in the mammalian brain is the core area for realizing spatial cognition. However, the visual perception and loop detection methods in the current biomimetic robot navigation model still rely on traditional visual SLAM schemes and lack the process of exploring and applying biological visual methods. Based on this, we propose a map construction method that mimics the entorhinal-hippocampal cognitive mechanism of the rat brain according to the response of entorhinal cortex neurons to eye saccades in recent related studies. That is, when mammals are free to watch the scene, the entorhinal cortex… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.7, pp. 1403-1417, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.020431 - 14 March 2022

Abstract Drought stress is one of the most important abiotic stresses that plants face frequently in nature. Under drought conditions, many morphological, physiological, and molecular aspects of plants are changed and as a result plants experience a remarkable reduction in growth, yield, and reproduction. To expand our understanding of the molecular basis of the plant response to drought stress, the proteomic profile and protein-protein network of canola (Brassica napus L.) were studied. The focus was to show molecular mechanisms related to canola susceptibility to drought stress. The experiment used a completely randomized design, implemented in a hydroponic… More >

Classification of Echocardiographic Standard Views Using a Hybrid Attention-based Approach

    Zi Ye1, Yogan Jaya Kumar2, Goh Ong Sing2, Fengyan Song3, Xianda Ni4,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.33, No.2, pp. 1197-1215, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.023555 - 08 February 2022

Abstract The determination of the probe viewpoint forms an essential step in automatic echocardiographic image analysis. However, classifying echocardiograms at the video level is complicated, and previous observations concluded that the most significant challenge lies in distinguishing among the various adjacent views. To this end, we propose an ECHO-Attention architecture consisting of two parts. We first design an ECHO-ACTION block, which efficiently encodes Spatio-temporal features, channel-wise features, and motion features. Then, we can insert this block into existing ResNet architectures, combined with a self-attention module to ensure its task-related focus, to form an effective ECHO-Attention network. More >
