Classification of Bone Marrow Cells for Medical Diagnosis of Acute Leukemia

    Khadija Khan, Samabia Tehsin*

    Journal on Artificial Intelligence, Vol.4, No.1, pp. 1-13, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jai.2022.028092 - 16 May 2022

Abstract Leukemia is the cancer that starts in the blood cells due to the excess production of immature leucocytes that replace the cells with normal blood cells. Physicians rely on their experience to determine the type and subtype of Leukemia from the blood sample. Most people are misdiagnosed when it comes to its subtypes, the error rates can be up to 40% during the classification process. That too depends on the expertise of the physician. This research represents a Convolutional Neural Network based medical image classifier. The proposed technique can classify Leukemia and its five subtypes. More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.1, pp. 1315-1334, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.017001 - 07 September 2021

Abstract Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer, and it is the reason for cancer death toll in women in recent years. Early diagnosis is essential to handle breast cancer patients for treatment at the right time. Screening with mammography is the preferred examination for breast cancer, as it is available worldwide and inexpensive. Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) systems are used to analyze medical images to detect breast cancer, early. The death rate of cancer patients has decreased by detecting tumors early and having appropriate treatment after operations. Processing of mammogram images has four main… More >

A Multi-Agent Stacking Ensemble Hybridized with Vaguely Quantified Rough Set for Medical Diagnosis

    Ali M. Aseere1,*, Ayodele Lasisi2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 683-699, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.014811 - 01 March 2021

Abstract In the absence of fast and adequate measures to combat them, life-threatening diseases are catastrophic to human health. Computational intelligent algorithms characterized by their adaptability, robustness, diversity, and recognition abilities allow for the diagnosis of medical diseases. This enhances the decision-making process of physicians. The objective is to predict and classify diseases accurately. In this paper, we proposed a multi-agent stacked ensemble classifier based on a vaguely quantified rough set, simple logistic algorithm, sequential minimal optimization (SMO), and JRip. The vaguely quantified rough set (VQRS) is used for feature selection and eradicating noise in the More >

A Comprehensive Review on Medical Diagnosis Using Machine Learning

    Kaustubh Arun Bhavsar1, Ahed Abugabah2, Jimmy Singla1,*, Ahmad Ali AlZubi3, Ali Kashif Bashir4, Nikita5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.2, pp. 1997-2014, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014943 - 05 February 2021

Abstract The unavailability of sufficient information for proper diagnosis, incomplete or miscommunication between patient and the clinician, or among the healthcare professionals, delay or incorrect diagnosis, the fatigue of clinician, or even the high diagnostic complexity in limited time can lead to diagnostic errors. Diagnostic errors have adverse effects on the treatment of a patient. Unnecessary treatments increase the medical bills and deteriorate the health of a patient. Such diagnostic errors that harm the patient in various ways could be minimized using machine learning. Machine learning algorithms could be used to diagnose various diseases with high… More >

Medical Diagnosis Using Machine Learning: A Statistical Review

    Kaustubh Arun Bhavsar1, Jimmy Singla1, Yasser D. Al-Otaibi2, Oh-Young Song3,*, Yousaf Bin Zikria4, Ali Kashif Bashir5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.1, pp. 107-125, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014604 - 12 January 2021

Abstract Decision making in case of medical diagnosis is a complicated process. A large number of overlapping structures and cases, and distractions, tiredness, and limitations with the human visual system can lead to inappropriate diagnosis. Machine learning (ML) methods have been employed to assist clinicians in overcoming these limitations and in making informed and correct decisions in disease diagnosis. Many academic papers involving the use of machine learning for disease diagnosis have been increasingly getting published. Hence, to determine the use of ML to improve the diagnosis in varied medical disciplines, a systematic review is conducted… More >

    Somayeh Hessam1, Shaghayegh Vahdat1, Irvan Masoudi Asl2,*, Mahnaz Kazemipoor3, Atefeh Aghaei4, Shahaboddin Shamshirband,5,6,*, Timon Rabczuk7

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.61, No.1, pp. 11-26, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.06472

Abstract In recent years, Parkinson's Disease (PD) as a progressive syndrome of the nervous system has become highly prevalent worldwide. In this study, a novel hybrid technique established by integrating a Multi-layer Perceptron Neural Network (MLP) with the Biogeography-based Optimization (BBO) to classify PD based on a series of biomedical voice measurements. BBO is employed to determine the optimal MLP parameters and boost prediction accuracy. The inputs comprised of 22 biomedical voice measurements. The proposed approach detects two PD statuses: 0-disease status and 1- good control status. The performance of proposed methods compared with PSO, GA, More >

Abstract Emotion recognition behavior and performance may vary between people with major neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and control groups. It is crucial to identify these differences for early diagnosis and individual treatment purposes. This study represents a methodology by using statistical data analysis and machine learning to provide help to psychiatrists and therapists on the diagnosis and individualized treatment of participants with ASD and ADHD. In this paper we propose an emotion recognition experiment environment and collect eye tracker fixation data together with the application log data More >

Feature Selection Method Based on Class Discriminative Degree for Intelligent Medical Diagnosis

    Shengqun Fang1, Zhiping Cai1,*, Wencheng Sun1, Anfeng Liu2, Fang Liu3, Zhiyao Liang4, Guoyan Wang5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.55, No.3, pp. 419-433, 2018, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2018.02289

Abstract By using efficient and timely medical diagnostic decision making, clinicians can positively impact the quality and cost of medical care. However, the high similarity of clinical manifestations between diseases and the limitation of clinicians’ knowledge both bring much difficulty to decision making in diagnosis. Therefore, building a decision support system that can assist medical staff in diagnosing and treating diseases has lately received growing attentions in the medical domain. In this paper, we employ a multi-label classification framework to classify the Chinese electronic medical records to establish corresponding relation between the medical records and disease… More >
