    Meiling Zhuang1,2,3, Changqing Miao1,2,*, Rongfeng Chen1,2

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.14, No.1, pp. 51-79, 2020, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2020.07663 - 01 March 2020

Abstract Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge as a long-span suspension bridge, the finite element model (FEM) of it is established using the ANSYS Software. The beam4 element is used to simulate the main beam to establish the “spine beam” model of the Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge. The calculated low-order vibration mode frequency of the FEM is in good agreement with the completion test results. The model can simulate the overall dynamic response of the bridge. Based on the vehicle load survey, the Monte Carlo method is applied to simulate the traffic load flow. Then the overall dynamic… More >

    Chen Ding1, Guizhi Wang1,*, Qi Liu2

    Journal on Big Data, Vol.1, No.2, pp. 55-69, 2019, DOI:10.32604/jbd.2019.06110

Abstract Haze concentration prediction, especially PM2.5, has always been a significant focus of air quality research, which is necessary to start a deep study. Aimed at predicting the monthly average concentration of PM2.5 in Beijing, a novel method based on Monte Carlo model is conducted. In order to fully exploit the value of PM2.5 data, we take logarithmic processing of the original PM2.5 data and propose two different scales of the daily concentration and the daily chain development speed of PM2.5 respectively. The results show that these data are both approximately normal distribution. On the basis… More >

    Tengjin Zhao1, Jing Zhang1, Zhilin Li2, Zhiyue Zhang1,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.120, No.1, pp. 83-104, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2019.04483

Abstract The validity of the tangent linear model (TLM) is studied numerically using the example of the Lorenz equations in this paper. The relationship between the limit of the validity time of the TLM and initial perturbations for the Lorenz equations is investigated using the Monte Carlo sampling method. A new error function between the nonlinear and the linear evolution of the perturbations is proposed. Furthermore, numerical sensitivity analysis is carried to establish the relationship between parameters and the validity of the TLM, such as the initial perturbation, the prediction time, the time step size and More >

Neural Network-Based Second Order Reliability Method (NNBSORM) for Laminated Composite Plates in Free Vibration

    Mena E. Tawfik1, 2, Peter L. Bishay3, *, Edward A. Sadek1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.115, No.1, pp. 105-129, 2018, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2018.115.105

Abstract Monte Carlo Simulations (MCS), commonly used for reliability analysis, require a large amount of data points to obtain acceptable accuracy, even if the Subset Simulation with Importance Sampling (SS/IS) methods are used. The Second Order Reliability Method (SORM) has proved to be an excellent rapid tool in the stochastic analysis of laminated composite structures, when compared to the slower MCS techniques. However, SORM requires differentiating the performance function with respect to each of the random variables involved in the simulation. The most suitable approach to do this is to use a symbolic solver, which renders… More >

    Wenxiang Xu1,2,3,4, Ganquan Yang5, Peng Lan2, Huaifa Ma1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.52, No.1, pp. 25-40, 2016, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2016.052.025

Abstract Understanding the excluded volume of anisotropic particle is of great importance in the evaluation of continuum percolation and random packing behaviors of soft/hard particle systems in heterogeneous disordered media. In this work, we obtain the excluded volumes of several anisotropic convex particles including prolate spheroids, oblate spheroids, spherocylinders, and Platonic particles, using theoretical and numerical approaches. According to the second virial coefficient, we first present a theoretical scheme for determining the excluded volumes of anisotropic particles. Also, the mean tangent diameters of anisotropic convex particles are formulated by the quantitative stereology. Subsequently, Monte Carlo simulations… More >

    Amir Reza Ansari Dezfoli1, Weng-Sing Hwang1,2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.49-50, No.1, pp. 1-11, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.049.001

Abstract Investigations of the microstructural evolution of Titanium (Ti) alloys during high temperature processes and heat treatment are attracting more attention due to wide variety of applications for such alloys. In most of these processes the Titanium alloys are subjected to fast heating or cooling rates. In this paper, Monte Carlo simulation is used to simulate the grain growth kinetics of Ti-6Al-4V alloy during fast heat treatment. Here, Monte Carlo simulation of grain growth is based on the Q-state Potts model. Our model is calibrated using the parabolic grain growth law, dn-d0n = kt, where the empirical More >

Solution of the Inverse Radiative Transfer Problem of Simultaneous Identification of the Optical Thickness and Space-Dependent Albedo Using Bayesian Inference

    D. C. Knupp1,2, A. J. Silva Neto3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.96, No.5, pp. 339-360, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2013.096.339

Abstract Inverse radiative transfer problems in heterogeneous participating media applications include determining gas properties in combustion chambers, estimating environmental and atmospheric conditions, and remote sensing, among others. In recent papers the spatially variable single scattering albedo has been estimated by expanding this unknown function as a series of known functions, and then estimating the expansion coefficients with parameter estimation techniques. In the present work we assume that there is no prior information on the functional form of the unknown spatially variable albedo and, making use of the Bayesian approach, we propose the development of a posterior… More >

    X.F. Guan1, X. Liu2, J.Z. Cui3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.91, No.6, pp. 425-444, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2013.091.425

Abstract In this paper, a stochastic geometrical modeling method for reconstructing three dimensional multiscale pore structures of porous materials is presented. In this method, the pore structure in porous materials is represented by a random but spatially correlated pore-network, in which the results of the Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) experiment are used as the basic input information. Beside that, based on the Monte Carlo techniques, an effective computer generation algorithm is developed, and the quantities to evaluate the properties of porous materials are defined and described. Furthermore, numerical implementations are conducted based on experimental data afterwards. More >

    Efraín Hernández-Rivera1,2, Veena Tikare1, Lumin Wang2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.38, No.2, pp. 91-103, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2013.038.091

Abstract We present the development of a hybrid Monte Carlo-phase field model that is able to simulate radiation induced chemical segregation and the corresponding phase transformation and nano-structure evolution. Under irradiation by a lowenergy ion beam, defects (vacancies) are created and accumulate. In a binary crystalline material, AB, studied in this work, these defects are of the two types A and B and diffuse at different rates. These differential diffusivities are sufficient driving mechanisms for the formation of chemically distinct regions with accompany changes in phases and nano-structure. In this work, we present a model that More >
