Solving the Generalized Traveling Salesman Problem Using Sequential Constructive Crossover Operator in Genetic Algorithm

Zakir Hussain Ahmed1,*, Maha Ata Al-Furhood2, Abdul Khader Jilani Saudagar3, Shakir Khan4

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.48, No.5, pp. 1113-1131, 2024, DOI:10.32604/csse.2024.053574 - 13 September 2024

Abstract The generalized travelling salesman problem (GTSP), a generalization of the well-known travelling salesman problem (TSP), is considered for our study. Since the GTSP is NP-hard and very complex, finding exact solutions is highly expensive, we will develop genetic algorithms (GAs) to obtain heuristic solutions to the problem. In GAs, as the crossover is a very important process, the crossover methods proposed for the traditional TSP could be adapted for the GTSP. The sequential constructive crossover (SCX) and three other operators are adapted to use in GAs to solve the GTSP. The effectiveness of GA using More >

Abstract Objectives: Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-targeted therapies have demonstrated potential benefits for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients with HER2 amplification, but are not satisfactory in cases of HER2 mutant CRCs. Methods: Consequently, further elucidation of amplifications and somatic mutations in erythroblastic oncogene B-2 (ERBB2) is imperative. Comprehensive genomic profiling was conducted on 2454 Chinese CRC cases to evaluate genomic alterations in 733 cancer-related genes, tumor mutational burden, microsatellite instability, and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression. Results: Among 2454 CRC patients, 85 cases (3.46%) exhibited ERBB2 amplification, and 55 cases (2.24%) carried ERBB2 mutation.… More > Graphic Abstract

Shujing Li, Zhangfei Li, Wenhui Cheng, Chenyang Qi, Linguo Li*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.80, No.2, pp. 2049-2063, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.051928 - 15 August 2024

Abstract To enhance the diversity and distribution uniformity of initial population, as well as to avoid local extrema in the Chimp Optimization Algorithm (CHOA), this paper improves the CHOA based on chaos initialization and Cauchy mutation. First, Sin chaos is introduced to improve the random population initialization scheme of the CHOA, which not only guarantees the diversity of the population, but also enhances the distribution uniformity of the initial population. Next, Cauchy mutation is added to optimize the global search ability of the CHOA in the process of position (threshold) updating to avoid the CHOA falling More >

SFGA-CPA: A Novel Screening Correlation Power Analysis Framework Based on Genetic Algorithm

    Jiahui Liu1,2, Lang Li1,2,*, Di Li1,2, Yu Ou1,2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.3, pp. 4641-4657, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.051613 - 20 June 2024

Abstract Correlation power analysis (CPA) combined with genetic algorithms (GA) now achieves greater attack efficiency and can recover all subkeys simultaneously. However, two issues in GA-based CPA still need to be addressed: key degeneration and slow evolution within populations. These challenges significantly hinder key recovery efforts. This paper proposes a screening correlation power analysis framework combined with a genetic algorithm, named SFGA-CPA, to address these issues. SFGA-CPA introduces three operations designed to exploit CPA characteristics: propagative operation, constrained crossover, and constrained mutation. Firstly, the propagative operation accelerates population evolution by maximizing the number of correct bytes… More >

Weak Fault Feature Extraction of the Rotating Machinery Using Flexible Analytic Wavelet Transform and Nonlinear Quantum Permutation Entropy

    Lili Bai1,*, Wenhui Li1, He Ren1,2, Feng Li1, Tao Yan1, Lirong Chen3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.3, pp. 4513-4531, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.051348 - 20 June 2024

Abstract Addressing the challenges posed by the nonlinear and non-stationary vibrations in rotating machinery, where weak fault characteristic signals hinder accurate fault state representation, we propose a novel feature extraction method that combines the Flexible Analytic Wavelet Transform (FAWT) with Nonlinear Quantum Permutation Entropy. FAWT, leveraging fractional orders and arbitrary scaling and translation factors, exhibits superior translational invariance and adjustable fundamental oscillatory characteristics. This flexibility enables FAWT to provide well-suited wavelet shapes, effectively matching subtle fault components and avoiding performance degradation associated with fixed frequency partitioning and low-oscillation bases in detecting weak faults. In our approach,… More >

Shale Fracturability Graphic Template Based on Mixed Analytic Hierar-chy Process and Mutation Theory

    Sichen Li1,2, Dehua Liu1,2,*, Liang Cheng1,2, Pan Ma1,2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.7, pp. 1921-1943, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.049906 - 11 June 2024

Abstract Due to the depletion of conventional energy reserves, there has been a global shift towards non-conventional energy sources. Shale oil and gas have emerged as key alternatives. These resources have dense and heterogeneous reservoirs, which require hydraulic fracturing to extract. This process depends on identifying optimal fracturing layers, also known as ‘sweet spots’. However, there is currently no uniform standard for locating these sweet spots. This paper presents a new model for evaluating fracturability that aims to address the current gap in the field. The model utilizes a hierarchical analysis approach and a mutation model, More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Background: The dysregulation of Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) and the subsequent production of 2-Hydroxyglutrate (2HG) may alter the expression of epigenetic proteins in Grade 4 astrocytoma. The interplay mechanism between IDH, O-6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT)-promoter methylation, and protein methyltransferase proteins-5 (PRMT5) activity, with tumor progression has never been described. Methods: A retrospective cohort of 34 patients with G4 astrocytoma is classified into IDH-mutant and IDH-wildtype tumors. Both groups were tested for MGMT-promoter methylation and PRMT5 through methylation-specific and gene expression PCR analysis. Inter-cohort statistical significance was evaluated. Results: Both IDH-mutant WHO grade 4 astrocytomas (n = 22, 64.7%) and IDH-wildtype… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Approximately 30%–40% of growth hormone–secreting pituitary adenomas (GHPAs) harbor somatic activating mutations in GNAS (α subunit of stimulatory G protein). Mutations in GNAS are associated with clinical features of smaller and less invasive tumors. However, the role of GNAS mutations in the invasiveness of GHPAs is unclear. GNAS mutations were detected in GHPAs using a standard polymerase chain reaction (PCR) sequencing procedure. The expression of mutation-associated maternally expressed gene 3 (MEG3) was evaluated with RT-qPCR. MEG3 was manipulated in GH3 cells using a lentiviral expression system. Cell invasion ability was measured using a Transwell assay, and epithelial–mesenchymal transition… More >

Appropriate Combination of Crossover Operator and Mutation Operator in Genetic Algorithms for the Travelling Salesman Problem

    Zakir Hussain Ahmed1,*, Habibollah Haron2, Abdullah Al-Tameem3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.2, pp. 2399-2425, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.049704 - 15 May 2024

Abstract Genetic algorithms (GAs) are very good metaheuristic algorithms that are suitable for solving NP-hard combinatorial optimization problems. A simple GA begins with a set of solutions represented by a population of chromosomes and then uses the idea of survival of the fittest in the selection process to select some fitter chromosomes. It uses a crossover operator to create better offspring chromosomes and thus, converges the population. Also, it uses a mutation operator to explore the unexplored areas by the crossover operator, and thus, diversifies the GA search space. A combination of crossover and mutation operators… More >

Pathogenic genes associated with Parkinson’s disease: molecular mechanism overview

    TINGTING LIU1,#, YIWEI HAO2,#, LIFENG ZHAO2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.48, No.5, pp. 707-729, 2024, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2024.049130 - 06 May 2024

Abstract Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease in the elderly, accounting for more than 1% of the population aged 65 years. Monogenic inheritance is relatively rare in PD, accounting for approximately 5% to 10% of PD patients, and there is a growing body of evidence suggesting that multiple genetic risk factors play a significant role in the pathogenesis of PD. Several groups have identified and reported a number of genes carrying mutations associated with affected family members. Mutated genes associated with PD are also candidates for idiopathic PD, and these genes may also carry… More >
