Abstract Most of the gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) have gain-of-function mutations in the KIT gene, which can be used as a prognostic marker for the biological behavior of tumors, predictive marker for the response of tyrosine kinase inhibitors, and diagnostic marker. Researchers have focused on PDGFRA mutations because of both their prognostic and predictive potential and DOG1 positivity for diagnosis on GISTs. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect DOG1, PDGFRA, and KIT mutations on the prediction of the outcome for GIST management. Polymerase chain reaction was performed for KIT gene exons 9, 11, 13,… More >

Obtaining new germplasm in Cenchrus ciliaris L. through induced-mutation and in vitro selection

    López Colomba E1, A Prina2, S Griffa1, AN Ribotta1, E Carloni1, E Tommasino1, C Luna1, E Biderbost1, K Grunberg1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.80, pp. 59-64, 2011, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2011.80.059

Abstract Cenchrus ciliaris L., a forage grass of wide distribution in the north-west of Argentina, is a tetraploid (4x = 36) and obligate apomictic species. One way of obtaining novel germplasm is by induced mutations. In this work, physical and chemical mutations are combined with in vitro selection procedures seeking for new germplasm, with emphasis on salinity and drought tolerance. Mature seeds of Cenchrus ciliaris L. cv Biloela were subjected to treatments with X rays (400 Gy) and ethyl methanesulphonate (EMS) water solution (5.5 mM for 24 h). To perform in vitro selection, after 7 days of EMS or X More >

A Geometric Approach to Solve Fuzzy Linear Systems

Nizami Gasilov1, Şahin Emrah Amrahov2, Afet Golayoğlu Fatullayev1, Halil İbrahim Karakaş1, Ömer Akın3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.75, No.3&4, pp. 189-204, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2011.075.189

Abstract In this paper, linear systems with a crisp real coefficient matrix and with a vector of fuzzy triangular numbers on the right-hand side are studied. A new method, which is based on the geometric representations of linear transformations, is proposed to find solutions. The method uses the fact that a vector of fuzzy triangular numbers forms a rectangular prism in n-dimensional space and that the image of a parallelepiped is also a parallelepiped under a linear transformation. The suggested method clarifies why in general case different approaches do not generate solutions as fuzzy numbers. It… More >

A male-sterile mutation in soybean (Glycine max) affecting chromosome arrangement in metaphase plate and cytokinesis

NILTON CESAR PIRES BIONE1, MARIA SUELY PAGLIARINI2, LEONES ALVES DE ALMEIDA3

    BIOCELL, Vol.29, No.2, pp. 177-181, 2005, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2005.29.177

Abstract A spontaneous male-sterile, female-fertile mutation affecting bivalent arrangement at the metaphase plate and cytokinesis was detected in line BR98-197 of the soybean breeding program developed by Embrapa – National Soybean Research Centre. Untill diakinesis, meiosis was normal with chromosome pairing as bivalents. From this phase, in several meiocytes, bivalents were not able to organize a single metaphase plate and remained scattered in the cytoplasm in a few or several groups. In these meiocytes, chromosomes segregated in both divisions giving rise to several micronuclei. However, the main cause of male sterility was the absence of cytokinesis More >
