    Ehab A. Elzayat, Majid S. Al-Mandil, Mostafa M. Elhilali

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.14, No.1, pp. 3463-3466, 2007

Abstract We describe a case of right renal agenesis with ipsilateral ectopic ureter opening into a large seminal vesicle cyst in a 24-year old man. The patient presented with left flank pain and the imaging studies showed absent right kidney and a large pelvic cyst possibly arising from seminal vesicle. The cyst was removed together with the right ureter and kidney remnant through a laparotomy. More >

Isolated solitary bony metastasis of a nonseminomatous germ cell tumor

    Abdulhadi Aldejmah1, Denis Soulières2, Fred Saad2

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.14, No.1, pp. 3458-3460, 2007

Abstract Bone metastasis is usually a late manifestation in patients with germ cell tumors and a poor prognosis site. We report a case of 29-year-old man with a nonseminomatous germ cell tumor who presented with a single metastatic site in a vertebrae with spinal compression. He was treated with a left orchiectomy and four cycles of chemotherapy containing bleomycin, etoposide, and cisplatin. He attained complete remission. More >

Ureteric obstruction: an unusual presentation of metastatic colon carcinoma

    Brendan C. Dickson1, Victor L. Fornasier1, Catherine J. Streutker1, Robert J. Stewart2

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.14, No.2, pp. 3526-3528, 2007

Abstract We present the case of a 78-year-old male who presented to clinic for follow-up of a papillary transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder. Notably, the patient also had a history of colorectal resection for an adenocarcinoma. The follow-up appointment revealed left hydronephrosis with evidence of a distal ureteric stricture. Cytology and biopsy from the ureter subsequently disclosed the presence of malignant cells that were originally thought to be of urothelial origin. Upon surgical resection the lesion was found to be an adenocarcinoma, morphologically consistent with a metastasis from the patient’s primary colonic adenocarcinoma. This More >

BCG pyelonephritis following intravesical therapy for transitional cell carcinoma

Jorge E. Garcia, David D. Thiel, Gregory A. Broderick

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.14, No.2, pp. 3523-3525, 2007

Abstract Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is a common intravesical agent utilized for superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder. The potential for side effects and complications does exist secondary to the utilization of live attenuated bacteria. We present the case of a 70- year old male that developed BCG pyelonephritis and associated renal mass following the fifth of six weekly intravesical BCG therapies. The patient improved clinically and renal mass resolved following 3 months of isoniazid monotherapy without renal biopsy. More >

1500 gram suprarenal mass: a case report

    Karen M. Jones1,2, Amar Singh3, Gabriel P. Haas3, Steve K. Landas1

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.14, No.2, pp. 3518-3522, 2007

Abstract Adrenocortical carcinoma can have a clinical presentation that mimics a primary renal tumor. We describe a case of a 47-year-old male who presented with flank pain, weight loss, and a 14 cm mass arising from the upper pole of the right kidney on imaging. Upon surgical resection he was found to have a 1500 gram stage II adrenocortical carcinoma. The clinical features, pathologic findings, grading criteria, and differential diagnosis of adrenocortical carcinoma are reviewed. More >

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.14, No.2, pp. 3502-3506, 2007

Abstract The general consensus about prostatic duct adenocarcinomas is that they have a rather aggressive biological behavior. In addition, studies or reports of latent adenocarcinoma of the prostatic duct in necropsy material are scarce in the literature. We report here three cases of adenocarcinoma of the prostatic duct that were found incidentally among 39 cases of latent acinar prostate adenocarcinomas in necropsy material. We examined the morphologic and histological features of these prostatic duct adenocarcinomas, in order to better understand their biological behavior. We identified two cases of mixed ductal-acinar adenocarcinoma and one case of pure More >

Appropriateness of testicular cancer management: a population-based cohort study

    Winson Y. Cheung1, Alain Demers2, Deloar Hossain3, Tim Owen4, Shahida Ahmed4, Piotr M. Czaykowski5

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.14, No.3, pp. 3542-3550, 2007

Abstract Objective: Testicular cancer is a highly curable malignancy of young men. Appropriate and timely management is critical to ensure optimal clinical outcomes. A 3-year population-based review of testicular cancer patients in Manitoba, Canada was undertaken to evaluate our management patterns.
Methods: Men diagnosed with testicular cancer from 1998 to 2000 were identified from the Provincial Cancer Registry. Chart review was utilized to collect information on demographic characteristics, timelines of diagnostic and staging investigations, completeness of pathology reports, management, and outcomes.
Results: Seventy-eight men were identified with 80 testicular cancers: 46 (59%) patients had 48 seminomas and 32… More >

Isolated renal metastasis after colon cancer

    E. Brambilla, A. A. Heck, J. G. Cao, G. T. Toniazzo, L. Petteffi

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.14, No.4, pp. 3649-3650, 2007

Abstract Renal infiltration of colon adenocarcinoma is a rare event. The authors present the case report of a 52-year-old female who had a high carcinoembryonic antigen level 18 months after right hemicolectomy and a chemotherapy regimen to treat transverse colon adenocarcinoma. The patient presented with cancer reccurrence after 12 months, and underwent a paraaortic lymphadenoctomy and a second adjuvant chemotherapy with the folfox regimen. Abdomen computerized tomography revealed two solid masses in the right kidney, without evidence of any other metastatic sites. A nephrectomy was performed in the right kidney followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. More >

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.14, No.4, pp. 3643-3645, 2007

Abstract We report a case of epidermoid-cell carcinoma of the lung that developed a metastatic lesion in the penis.A 50-year-old male patient was admitted to our hospital with bloody sputum and cough. He had a left pneumectomy and was diagnosed with epidermoid carcinoma of the lung at stage IIB (T2N1M0). He was started on an adjuvant chemotherapy protocol consisting of cisplatin and paclitaxel. He was admitted to our urology clinic with obstructive symptoms during urination and pain during penile erection.Physical examination revealed a firm, 3 cm x 2 cm palpable mass on the radix of his More >
