Automated Meter Reading Detection Using Inception with Single Shot Multi-Box Detector

Arif Iqbal*, Abdul Basit, Imran Ali, Junaid Babar, Ihsan Ullah

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.27, No.2, pp. 299-309, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.014250 - 18 January 2021

Abstract Automated meter reading has recently been adopted by utility service providers for improving the reading and billing process. Images captured during meter reading are incorporated in consumer bills to prevent reporting false reading and ensure transparency. The availability of images captured during the meter reading process presents the potential of completely automating the meter reading process. This paper proposes a convolutional network-based multi-box model for the automatic meter reading. The proposed research leverages the inception model with a single shot detector to achieve high accuracy and efficiency compared to the existing state-of-the-art machine learning methods. More >

Abstract During the last decade the emergence of Internet of Things (IoT) based applications inspired the world by providing state of the art solutions to many common problems. From traffic management systems to urban cities planning and development, IoT based home monitoring systems, and many other smart applications. Regardless of these facilities, most of these IoT based solutions are data driven and results in small accuracy values for smaller datasets. In order to address this problem, this paper presents deep learning based hybrid approach for the development of an IoT-based intelligent home security and appliance control… More >

Multi-Object Detection of Chinese License Plate in Complex Scenes

    Dan Liu1,3, Yajuan Wu1, Yuxin He2, Lu Qin2, Bochuan Zheng2,3,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.36, No.1, pp. 145-156, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.014646 - 23 December 2020

Abstract Multi-license plate detection in complex scenes is still a challenging task because of multiple vehicle license plates with different sizes and classes in the images having complex background. The edge features of high-density distribution and the high curvature features of stroke turning of Chinese character are important signs to distinguish Chinese license plate from other objects. To accurately detect multiple vehicle license plates with different sizes and classes in complex scenes, a multi-object detection of Chinese license plate method based on improved YOLOv3 network was proposed in this research. The improvements include replacing the residual… More >

Abstract The rapid development and progress in deep machine-learning techniques have become a key factor in solving the future challenges of humanity. Vision-based target detection and object classification have been improved due to the development of deep learning algorithms. Data fusion in autonomous driving is a fact and a prerequisite task of data preprocessing from multi-sensors that provide a precise, well-engineered, and complete detection of objects, scene or events. The target of the current study is to develop an in-vehicle information system to prevent or at least mitigate traffic issues related to parking detection and traffic… More >

Multi-Scale Boxes Loss for Object Detection in Smart Energy

    Zhiyong Dai1,*, Jianjun Yi1, Yajun Zhang1, Liang He2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.26, No.5, pp. 887-903, 2020, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2020.010122

Abstract The rapid development of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies has boosted smart energy networks in recent years. However, power line surveillance systems still suffer from the low accuracy and efficiency of the power line area recognition and risk objects detection. This paper proposes a new customized loss function to tackle the disequilibrium of the size of objects on multi-scale feature maps in the deep learning-based detectors. To validate the new concept and improve the efficiency, we also presented a new object detection model. Experimental results are provided to exhibit the advantage of our proposed method More >

Object Detection and Fuzzy-Based Classification Using UAV Data

    Abdul Qayyum1,*, Iftikhar Ahmad2, Mohsin Iftikhar3, Moona Mazher4

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.26, No.4, pp. 693-702, 2020, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2020.010103

Abstract UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) equipped with remote sensing devices can acquire spatial data with a relevant area of interest. In this paper, we have acquired UAV data for high voltage power poles, urban areas and vegetation/trees near power lines. For object classification, the proposed approach based on the fuzzy classifier is compared with the traditional minimum distance classifier and maximum likelihood classifier on our three defined segments of UAV images. The performance evaluation of all the classifiers was based on the statistics parameters which included the mean, standard deviation and PDF (probability density function) of More >

A Real Time Vision-Based Smoking Detection Framework on Edge

    Ruilong Chen1, Guangfu Zeng1, Ke Wang2, Lei Luo1,*, Zhiping Cai1

    Journal on Internet of Things, Vol.2, No.2, pp. 55-64, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jiot.2020.09814 - 14 September 2020

Abstract Smoking is the main reason for fire disaster and pollution in petrol station, construction site and warehouse. Existing solutions based on wearable devices and smoking sensors were costly and hard to obtain evidence of smoking in unmanned scenarios. With the developments of closed circuit television (CCTV) system, vision-based methods for object detection, mostly driven by deep learning techniques, were introduced recently. However, the massive GPU computing hardware required by the deep learning algorithm made these methods hard to be deployed. This paper aims at solving the smoking detection problem on edge and proposes the solution More >

Vehicle Target Detection Method Based on Improved SSD Model

    Guanghui Yu1, Honghui Fan1, Hongyan Zhou1, Tao Wu1, Hongjin Zhu1, *

    Journal on Artificial Intelligence, Vol.2, No.3, pp. 125-135, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jai.2020.010501 - 15 July 2020

Abstract When we use traditional computer vision Inspection technology to locate the vehicles, we find that the results were unsatisfactory, because of the existence of diversified scenes and uncertainty. So, we present a new method based on improved SSD model. We adopt ResNet101 to enhance the feature extraction ability of algorithm model instead of the VGG16 used by the classic model. Meanwhile, the new method optimizes the loss function, such as the loss function of predicted offset, and makes the loss function drop more smoothly near zero points. In addition, the new method improves cross entropy More >

Abstract In recent years, the number of exposed vulnerabilities has grown rapidly and more and more attacks occurred to intrude on the target computers using these vulnerabilities such as different malware. Malware detection has attracted more attention and still faces severe challenges. As malware detection based traditional machine learning relies on exports’ experience to design efficient features to distinguish different malware, it causes bottleneck on feature engineer and is also time-consuming to find efficient features. Due to its promising ability in automatically proposing and selecting significant features, deep learning has gradually become a research hotspot. In More >
