    Ibrahim Atawi1, Sherif Zaid1,2,3,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.31, No.1, pp. 449-469, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.019959

Abstract Transformerless inverters have become an important integration of the modern photovoltaic (PV) grid-tied systems. Unfortunately, it has a general safety problem regarding the earth leakage current that must be less than the recommended standards. Lately, the H7 transformerless inverter, which is a three-phase inverter with an additional switch on the DC side, is introduced to mitigate the earth leakage current. Different modulation techniques and controllers are proposed to optimize its performance. This paper proposed the application of model predictive control (MPC) to grid-connected H7 transformerless inverter supplied by the PV power system. In modeling the system, the grid inductance has… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.30, No.2, pp. 467-479, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.016681

Abstract This study uses several artificial intelligence approaches to detect and estimate electrical faults in photovoltaic (PV) farms. The fault detection approaches of random forest, logistic regression, naive Bayes, AdaBoost, and CN2 rule induction were selected from a total of 12 techniques because they produced better decisions for fault detection. The proposed techniques were designed using distributed PV current measurements, plant current, plant voltage, and power. Temperature, radiation, and fault resistance were treated randomly. The proposed classification model was created using the Orange platform. A classification tree was visualized, consisting of seven nodes and four leaves, with a depth of four… More >

Abstract Based on the recent development of renewable energy utilization technology, in addition to centralized photovoltaic power plants, distributed photovoltaic power generation systems represented by building-integrated photovoltaic systems are frequently employed for power supply. Therefore, in the architectural design, the double-glass photovoltaic module used in the integrated photovoltaic building system puts forward a higher load-bearing capacity requirement and the corresponding simplified method of carrying capacity check. This article focuses on the simplified method of checking the bearing capacity of the four-sided simply supported double-glass photovoltaic module. First, the principle of equivalent stiffness is used to calculate the effective thickness. Then, the… More > Graphic Abstract

    Emad H. El-Zohri1, Hegazy Rezk2,3,*, Basem Alamri4, Hamdy A. Ziedan5

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 201-213, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.018700

Abstract Microgrids are hybrid power systems that consist of several distributed generation resources and local loads that can supply electrical power to remote or specific areas. The integration of microgrids with the utility network is one of the most recent technologies developed in countries like Egypt. One area of study is how the integration of smart microgrids and utility systems can be used to solve power quality problems such as voltage sags, increased use of distributed generators, deep energy, and power loss. This paper is aimed at investigating a possible solution to some common and dangerous power quality issues associated with… More >

Forecasting Model of Photovoltaic Power Based on KPCA-MCS-DCNN

    Huizhi Gou1,2,*, Yuncai Ning1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.128, No.2, pp. 803-822, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.015922

Abstract Accurate photovoltaic (PV) power prediction can effectively help the power sector to make rational energy planning and dispatching decisions, promote PV consumption, make full use of renewable energy and alleviate energy problems. To address this research objective, this paper proposes a prediction model based on kernel principal component analysis (KPCA), modified cuckoo search algorithm (MCS) and deep convolutional neural networks (DCNN). Firstly, KPCA is utilized to reduce the dimension of the feature, which aims to reduce the redundant input vectors. Then using MCS to optimize the parameters of DCNN. Finally, the photovoltaic power forecasting method of KPCA-MCS-DCNN is established. In… More >

Optimal Implementation of Photovoltaic and Battery Energy Storage in Distribution Networks

    Hussein Abdel-Mawgoud1, Salah Kamel1, Hegazy Rezk2,3, Tahir Khurshaid4, Sang-Bong Rhee4,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.2, pp. 1463-1481, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017995

Abstract Recently, implementation of Battery Energy Storage (BES) with photovoltaic (PV) array in distribution networks is becoming very popular in overall the world. Integrating PV alone in distribution networks generates variable output power during 24-hours as it depends on variable natural source. PV can be able to generate constant output power during 24-hours by installing BES with it. Therefore, this paper presents a new application of a recent metaheuristic algorithm, called Slime Mould Algorithm (SMA), to determine the best size, and location of photovoltaic alone or with battery energy storage in the radial distribution system (RDS). This algorithm is modeled from… More >

A Robust Single-Sensor MPPT Strategy for Shaded Photovoltaic-Battery System

    A. N. M. Alahmadi1, Hegazy Rezk2,3,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 63-71, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.015029

Abstract A robust single-sensor global maximum power point tracking (MPPT) strategy based on modern optimization for photovoltaic systems considering shading conditions is proposed in this work. The proposed strategy is designed for battery charging applications and direct current (DC) microgrids. Under normal operation, the curve of photovoltaic (PV) output power versus PV voltage contains only a single peak point. This point can be simply captured using any traditional tracking method like perturb and observe. However, this situation is completely different during the shadowing effect where several peaks appear on the power voltage curve. Most of these peaks are local with only… More >
