Abstract Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have become a vital part in improving human lives and modern economy. It aims at enhancing road safety and environmental quality. There is a tremendous increase observed in the number of vehicles in recent years, owing to increasing population. Each vehicle has its own individual emission rate; however, the issue arises when the emission rate crosses a standard value. Owing to the technological advances made in Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, it is easy to leverage it to develop prediction approaches so as to monitor and control air pollution. The current research paper presents Oppositional Shark Shell… More >

    Guangyue Cai1, Juanli Tu2, Songhao Li3, Yifei Ruan3, Qifeng Wu3, Jiasen Wu1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.6, pp. 1245-1256, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.019599

Abstract Soil heavy metal pollution is becoming more and more serious. Biomass charcoal application can play an important role in alleviating the toxicity of heavy metals in soils. Compared with other biochar, bamboo charcoal has more unique properties and may have a unique effect on heavy metal pollution. Zhejiang Province of Southeastern China is rich in bamboo resources. However, few studies related to bamboo charcoal application for heavy metal remediation in farmland were reported. In this study, four treatments with different amounts of bamboo charcoal application were set up through a field experiment, namely BC0 (no bamboo charcoal application), BC1 (2500 kg⋅ha−1),… More >

Noise Pollution Reduction through a Novel Optimization Procedure in Passive Control Methods

    Haojie Lian1,2, Leilei Chen2,3, Xiao Lin4, Wenchang Zhao5,*, Stephane P. A. Bordas6,7, Mingdong Zhou8,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.1, pp. 1-18, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.019705

Abstract This paper proposes a novel optimization framework in passive control techniques to reduce noise pollution. The geometries of the structures are represented by Catmull-Clark subdivision surfaces, which are able to build gap-free Computer-Aided Design models and meanwhile tackle the extraordinary points that are commonly encountered in geometric modelling. The acoustic fields are simulated using the isogeometric boundary element method, and a density-based topology optimization is conducted to optimize distribution of sound-absorbing materials adhered to structural surfaces. The approach enables one to perform acoustic optimization from Computer-Aided Design models directly without needing meshing and volume parameterization, thereby avoiding the geometric errors… More >

Abstract Major fields such as military applications, medical fields, weather forecasting, and environmental applications use wireless sensor networks for major computing processes. Sensors play a vital role in emerging technologies of the 20th century. Localization of sensors in needed locations is a very serious problem. The environment is home to every living being in the world. The growth of industries after the industrial revolution increased pollution across the environment. Owing to recent uncontrolled growth and development, sensors to measure pollution levels across industries and surroundings are needed. An interesting and challenging task is choosing the place to fit the sensors. Many… More >

    Muhammad Zulqarnain1, Rozaida Ghazali1,*, Habib Shah2, Lokman Hakim Ismail1, Abdullah Alsheddy3, Maqsood Mahmud4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.2, pp. 3051-3068, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.021629

Abstract Air pollution is a significant problem in modern societies since it has a serious impact on human health and the environment. Particulate Matter (PM2.5) is a type of air pollution that contains of interrupted elements with a diameter less than or equal to 2.5 m. For risk assessment and epidemiological investigations, a better knowledge of the spatiotemporal variation of PM2.5 concentration in a constant space-time area is essential. Conventional spatiotemporal interpolation approaches commonly relying on robust presumption by limiting interpolation algorithms to those with explicit and basic mathematical expression, ignoring a plethora of hidden but crucial manipulating aspects. Many advanced… More >

Analysis of Water Pollution Causes and Control Countermeasures in Liaohe Estuary via Support Vector Machine Particle Swarm Optimization under Deep Learning

    Guize Liu1,2, Jinqing Ye2, Yuan Chen2, Xiaolong Yang2, Yanbin Gu2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.1, pp. 315-329, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.016224

Abstract This study explores the loss or degradation of the ecosystem and its service function in the Liaohe estuary coastal zone due to the deterioration of water quality. A prediction system based on support vector machine (SVM)-particle swarm optimization (PSO) (SVM-PSO) algorithm is proposed under the background of deep learning. SVM-PSO algorithm is employed to analyze the pollution status of the Liaohe estuary, so is the difference in water pollution of different sea consuming types. Based on the analysis results for causes of pollution, the control countermeasures of water pollution in Liaohe estuary are put forward. The results suggest that the… More >

Research on Flashover Voltage Prediction of Catenary Insulator Based on CaSO4 Pollution with Different Mass Fraction

    Sihua Wang1,2, Junjun Wang1,2,*, Lijun Zhou1,2, Long Chen1,2, Lei Zhao1,2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.1, pp. 219-236, 2022, DOI:10.32604/EE.2022.016899

    Abstract

Pollution flashover accidents occur frequently in railway OCS in saline-alkali areas. To accurately predict the pollution flashover voltage of insulators, a pollution flashover warning should be made in advance. According to the operating environment of insulators along the Qinghai-Tibet railway, the pollution flashover experiments were designed for the cantilever composite insulator FQBG-25/12. Through the experiments, the flashover voltage under the influence of soluble contaminant density (SCD) of different pollution components, non-soluble deposit density (NSDD), temperature (T), and atmospheric pressure (P) was obtained. On this basis, the GA-BP neural network prediction model was established. P, SCD, NSDD, CaSO4 mass fraction (w(CaSO4)),… More >

SMOTEDNN: A Novel Model for Air Pollution Forecasting and AQI Classification

    Mohd Anul Haq*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.1, pp. 1403-1425, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.021968

Abstract Rapid industrialization and urbanization are rapidly deteriorating ambient air quality, especially in the developing nations. Air pollutants impose a high risk on human health and degrade the environment as well. Earlier studies have used machine learning (ML) and statistical modeling to classify and forecast air pollution. However, these methods suffer from the complexity of air pollution dataset resulting in a lack of efficient classification and forecasting of air pollution. ML-based models suffer from improper data pre-processing, class imbalance issues, data splitting, and hyperparameter tuning. There is a gap in the existing ML-based studies on air pollution due to improper data… More >
