Improving Power Quality by DSTATCOM Based DQ Theory with Soft Computing Techniques

    V. Nandagopal1,*, T. S. Balaji Damodhar2, P. Vijayapriya3, A. Thamilmaran3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.2, pp. 1315-1329, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.032039

    Abstract

The development of non-linear loads at consumers has significantly impacted power supply systems. Since, the poor power quality has been found in the three-phase distribution system due to unbalanced loads, harmonic current, undesired voltage regulation, and extreme reactive power demand. To overcome this issue, Distributed STATicCOMpensator (DSTATCOM) is implemented. DSTATCOM is a shunt-connected Voltage Source Converter (VSC) that has been utilized in distribution networks to balance the bus voltage in terms of enhancing reactive power control and power factor. DSTATCOM can provide both rapid and continuous capacitive and inductive mode compensation. A rectified resistive and inductive load eliminates current harmonics… More >

    Mehrdad Ahmadi Kamarposhti1,*, Ilhami Colak2, Phatiphat Thounthong3, Kei Eguchi4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.2, pp. 4547-4570, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.034082

Abstract The present study suggests that series voltage injection is more effective than parallel current injection to improve voltage quality on the load side. The line voltage can be accurately symmetrized at the connection point by creating and controlling a series voltage component in each phase. This is more reliable and effective than parallel current injection. A dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) and a distribution static synchronous compensator (DSTATCOM) were utilized to provide the required power. The DVR is an effective and modern device utilized in parallel within the grid and can protect sensitive loads from voltage problems in the grid by… More >

Enhancement of Large Renewable Distributed Generation Penetration Levels at the Point of Common Coupling

Akinyemi Ayodeji Stephen*, Kabeya Musasa, Innocent Ewean Davidson

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.6, pp. 2711-2744, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.023069

Abstract The occurrence of distortion and over voltage at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) of Renewable Distributed Generation (RDG) limits its penetration levels to the power system and the RDG integration is expected to play a crucial role in power system transformation. For its penetrations to be sustained without disconnection from the system, there must be a solution to the voltage rise, distortion, unbalanced current and grid reactive power control strategy at PCC. It is an IEEE-1547 requirement that RDG integration to the power system should be regulated at PCC to avoid disconnection from the network due to power quality… More > Graphic Abstract

    Noor Zanib1, Munira Batool1, Saleem Riaz2, Farkhanda Afzal3, Sufian Munawar4, Ibtisam Daqqa5, Najma Saleem5,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.2, pp. 1105-1136, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.021676

Abstract This paper presents a comprehensive study that includes the sizing and power flow by series and parallel inverters in a distributed generation system (DGs) that integrates the system of hybrid wind photovoltaic with a unified power quality conditioner (UPQC). In addition to supplying active power to the utility grid, the system of hybrid wind photovoltaic functions as a UPQC, compensating reactive power and suppressing the harmonic load currents. Additionally, the load is supplied with harmonic-free, balanced and regulated output voltages. Since PVWind-UPQC is established on a dual compensation scheme, the series inverter works like a sinusoidal current source, while the… More >

A Fractional Order Fast Repetitive Control Paradigm of Vienna Rectifier for Power Quality Improvement

    Sue Wang1, Xintao Luo1,*, Saleem Riaz2, Haider Zaman3, Chaohong Zhou1, Pengfei Hao1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.2, pp. 1159-1176, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.021850

Abstract Due to attractive features, including high efficiency, low device stress, and ability to boost voltage, a Vienna rectifier is commonly employed as a battery charger in an electric vehicle (EV). However, the 6k ± 1 harmonics in the acside current of the Vienna rectifier deteriorate the THD of the ac current, thus lowering the power factor. Therefore, the current closed-loop for suppressing 6k ± 1 harmonics is essential to meet the desired total harmonic distortion (THD). Fast repetitive control (FRC) is generally adopted; however, the deviation of power grid frequency causes delay link in the six frequency fast repetitive control… More >

An Intelligent Intrusion Detection System in Smart Grid Using PRNN Classifier

    P. Ganesan1,*, S. Arockia Edwin Xavier2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.3, pp. 2979-2996, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.029264

Abstract Typically, smart grid systems enhance the ability of conventional power system networks as it is vulnerable to several kinds of attacks. These vulnerabilities might cause the attackers or intruders to collapse the entire network system thus breaching the confidentiality and integrity of smart grid systems. Thus, for this purpose, Intrusion detection system (IDS) plays a pivotal part in offering a reliable and secured range of services in the smart grid framework. Several existing approaches are there to detect the intrusions in smart grid framework, however they are utilizing an old dataset to detect anomaly thus resulting in reduced rate of… More >

Hierarchical and Distributed Optimal Control Strategy for Power and Power Quality of Microgrid Based on Finite-Time Consistency

    Wenjun Wei1,2, Hao Liang1,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.5, pp. 2065-2080, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.020002

Abstract Droop control is one of the main control strategies of islanded microgrid (MG), but the droop control cannot achieve reasonable power distribution of microgrid, resulting in frequency and voltage deviation from the rating value, which needs the upper control link to eliminate the deviation. However, at present, most layered control requires a centralized control center, which excessively relies on microgrid central controller (MGCC) and real-time communication among distributed generation (DG), which has certain limitations. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes a hierarchical distributed power and power quality optimization strategy based on multi-agent finite time consistency algorithm (MA-FTCA). Firstly,… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.2, pp. 1505-1525, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.026301

Abstract In recent day’s power distribution system is distress from acute power quality issues. In this work, for compensating Power Quality (PQ) disturbances a seven level cascaded H-bridge inverter is implemented in distribution static compensator which protects power quality problems in currents. Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) aid to enhances power factor and removes total harmonic distortion which is drawn from non-linear load. The D–Q reference theory based hysteresis current controller is employed to generate reference current for compensation of harmonics and reactive power, additionally Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN) classifier is used which easily separates exact harmonics.
