Abstract The effect of soil nutrient content on fruit yield and fruit quality is very important. To explore the effect of soil nutrients on apple quality we investigated 200 fruit samples from 40 orchards in Feng County, Jiangsu Province. Soil mineral elements and fruit quality were measured. The effect of soil nutrient content on fruit quality was analyzed by artificial neural network (ANN) model. The results showed that the prediction accuracy was highest (R2 = 0.851, 0.847, 0.885, 0.678 and 0.746) in mass per fruit (MPF), hardness (HB), soluble solids concentrations (SSC), titratable acid concentration (TA) and solid-acid ratio (SSC/TA), respectively. The sensitivity… More >

Abstract In this paper, the residue from bamboo factory has been used to design photo-Fenton catalyst, which has the advantages of low cost and magnetic recycling. The photo-Fenton catalytic performance of the biocarbon-based catalyst was excellent and its optimal preparation process was also explored by response surface methodology. First, bamboo-carbon fiber was selected as the photo-Fenton catalyst carrier. Subsequently, the surface of the carbon fiber was modified, with which dopamine, nano-Fe3O4 and nano-TiO2 were successively loaded by hydrothermal method. After examined single factor tests, four factors including dopamine concentration, ferric chloride mass, P25 titanium dioxide mass and liquid-solid ratio were selected… More > Graphic Abstract

    Abstract

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is one of the four major oil crops in the world and has high economic value. However, the lack of discrete element method (DEM) models and parameters for sunflower seeds hinders the application of DEM for computer simulation in the key working processes of sunflower seed sowing and harvesting. The present study was conducted on two varieties of sunflower, and the DEM model of sunflower seeds was established by using 3D scanning technology based on the distribution of triaxial dimensions and volumes of the geometric model of sunflower seeds. Similarly, the physical characteristics parameters of sunflower… More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.5, pp. 1305-1315, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.016131

Abstract Fused deposition modeling (FDM)-3D printing has been the favored technology to build functional components in various industries. The present study investigates infill percentage and infill pattern effects on the printed parts’ impact properties through the 3D printing technique using coconut wood-filled PLA composites. Mathematical models are also proposed in the present study with the aim for future property prediction. According to the ASTM standard, fifteen specimens with different parameter combinations were printed using a low-cost FDM 3D printer to evaluate their impact properties. Statistical analysis was performed using MINITAB to validate the experimental data and model development. The experimental outcomes… More >

    Yueqiang Yu1, Suling Wang1,*, Minzheng Jiang1, Yanling Guo2,3, Ting Jiang1,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.2, pp. 351-364, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.012885

Abstract In order to enhance the strength of sustainable walnut shell/Co-PES (WSPC) sintered parts, wax-filtrated post-treatment was carried out. The effects of treating fluid temperature, preheating time and immersion time on the bending strength of WSPC wax-filtrated parts were analyzed by single factor analysis method. To obtain an accurate model for predicting the bending strength of the WSPC wax-filtrated part, the experiments were involved by using Box-Behnken design (BBD). Main parameters, such as treating fluid temperature, preheating time and immersion time, and their interactive effects were analyzed through analysis of variance (ANOVA) and graphical contours. The results demonstrated that all parameters’… More >

    Ting Jiang1,3, Chunmei Yang1,2,*, Yueqiang Yu3, Bakary S. Doumbia1,2, Jiuqing Liu1,*, Yan Ma1,2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.1, pp. 119-128, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.011490

    Abstract

As a natural and environmentally friendly renewable material, Northeast China ash wood (NCAW) (Fraxinus mandshurica Rupr.) was cut by water-jet assisted CO2 laser (WACL), the surface quality was evaluated by surface roughness of cut section. The surface roughness was measured by three-dimensional (3D) profilometry. Furthermore, the micromorphology of machined surface was observed by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). Carbon content changes of machined surface were measured by energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). A relationship between surface roughness and cutting parameters was established using response surface methodology (RSM). It is concluded that the cutting speed, laser power and water pressure played an important… More >
