    Daobing Wang1, Fang Shi2,*, Hao Qin1,*, Dongliang Sun1, Bo Yu1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.126, No.3, pp. 891-914, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.014206 - 19 February 2021

Abstract In this study, we use the extended finite element method (XFEM) with a consideration of junction enrichment functions to investigate the mechanics of hydraulic fractures related to naturally cemented fractures. In the proposed numerical model, the lubrication equation is adopted to describe the fluid flow within fractures. The fluid-solid coupling systems of the hydraulic fracturing problem are solved using the Newton-Raphson method. The energy release rate criterion is used to determine the cross/arrest behavior between a hydraulic fracture (HF) and a cemented natural fracture (NF). The failure patterns and mechanisms of crack propagation at the… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.126, No.3, pp. 1217-1238, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.014558 - 19 February 2021

Abstract Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a very common neurodegenerative disease that occurs mostly in the elderly. There are many main clinical manifestations of PD, such as tremor, bradykinesia, muscle rigidity, etc. Based on the current research on PD, the accurate and convenient detection of early symptoms is the key to detect PD. With the development of microelectronic and sensor technology, it is much easier to measure the barely noticeable tremor in just one hand for the early detection of Parkinson’s disease. In this paper, we present a smart wearable device for detecting hand tremor, in which… More >

Hans Christian Correa-Aguado1,3, Gloria Viviana Cerrillo-Rojas1, Alejandro Rocha-Uribe2, Ruth Elena Soria-Guerra2, José Francisco Morales-Domínguez1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.2, pp. 515-531, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.013619 - 07 February 2021

Abstract The need for renewable energy sources makes microalgae an essential feedstock for biofuels production. The molecular aspects and the response to nitrogen (N)-limited conditions with a phytohormone stimulus in microalgae have been slightly explored. In this work, Scenedesmus obliquus was used as a study model to analyze the effect of benzyl amino purine (BAP) and gibberellic acid (GA) coupled to nitrogen limitation on cell growth, biomass and fatty acids. The selected 10-5 M BAP increased the biomass by 1.44-fold, and 10-6 M GA by 1.35-fold. The total lipids also increased by 2.8 and 1.11-fold, respectively. The 10-5 M… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.37, No.2, pp. 187-202, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.014902 - 01 March 2021

Abstract This article examines the main variables that influence the intention to use Augmented Reality (AR) applications in the tourism sector in Jordan. The study model has been constructed based on the unified theory of acceptance and the use of technology2 (UTAUT2), by incorporating a new construct (aesthetics) to explore the usage intention of Mobile Augmented Reality in Tourism (MART). A questionnaire was used and distributed to a sample of 450 participants. Data were analyzed using the Smart PLS version 3.0. for testing 12 hypotheses. 29 measurement items were carefully reviewed based on previous studies that… More >

A Novel IoT Application Recommendation System Using Metaheuristic Multi-Criteria Analysis

    Mohammed Hayder Kadhim, Farhad Mardukhi*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.37, No.2, pp. 149-158, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.014608 - 01 March 2021

Abstract There are a variety of Internet of Things (IoT) applications that cover different aspects of daily life. Each of these applications has different criteria and sub-criteria, making it difficult for the user to choose. This requires an automated approach to select IoT applications by considering criteria. This paper presents a novel recommendation system for presenting applications on the IoT. First, using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), a multi-layer architecture of the criteria and sub-criteria in IoT applications is presented. This architecture is used to evaluate and rank IoT applications. As a result, finding the weight More >

YOLOv3 Attention Face Detector with High Accuracy and Efficiency

Qiyuan Liu, Shuhua Lu*, Lingqiang Lan

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.37, No.2, pp. 283-295, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.014086 - 01 March 2021

Abstract In recent years, face detection has attracted much attention and achieved great progress due to its extensively practical applications in the field of face based computer vision. However, the tradeoff between accuracy and efficiency of the face detectors still needs to be further studied. In this paper, using Darknet-53 as backbone, we propose an improved YOLOv3-attention model by introducing attention mechanism and data augmentation to obtain the robust face detector with high accuracy and efficiency. The attention mechanism is introduced to enhance much higher discrimination of the deep features, and the trick of data augmentation… More >

TLSmell: Direct Identification on Malicious HTTPs Encryption Traffic with Simple Connection-Specific Indicators

    Zhengqiu Weng1,2, Timing Chen1,*, Tiantian Zhu1, Hang Dong1, Dan Zhou1, Osama Alfarraj3

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 105-119, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.015074 - 05 February 2021

Abstract Internet traffic encryption is a very common traffic protection method. Most internet traffic is protected by the encryption protocol called transport layer security (TLS). Although traffic encryption can ensure the security of communication, it also enables malware to hide its information and avoid being detected. At present, most of the malicious traffic detection methods are aimed at the unencrypted ones. There are some problems in the detection of encrypted traffic, such as high false positive rate, difficulty in feature extraction, and insufficient practicability. The accuracy and effectiveness of existing methods need to be improved. In… More >

The Micro-Scale Mechanism of Metal Mine Tailings Thickening Concentration Improved by Shearing in Gravity Thickener

    Huazhe Jiao1,2, Yachuang Wu1, Wei Wang2,*, Xinming Chen1, Yunfei Wang1, Juanhong Liu3, Wentao Feng4

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.4, pp. 637-650, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.014310 - 01 February 2021

Abstract Higher concentration is beneficial for the Paste and Thickened Tailings (PTT) operation in metal mine. Partial paste thickeners are produced lower density underflow. Flocculated tailings are intended to form a water entrapped network structure in thickener, which is detrimental to underflow concentration. In this study, the continuous thickening experiment was carried out for ultra-fine tungsten tailings to study the influence of rake shearing on underflow. The micro pores structure and seepage flow in tailings bed before and after shearing are studied by CT and simulation approach to reveal the shearing enhancement mechanism of thickening process.… More >
