Xianling Fu#, Hongliang Ding#, Xin Wang*, Lei Song, Yuan Hu*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.9, pp. 2303-2317, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.020759 - 30 May 2022

Abstract Although epoxy resin has been widely used in various fields, it still suffers from some problems including brittleness and flammability. In this study, a new phosphonic acid, N, N-bis(phosphomethyl) glycine (GDMP), was prepared by Mannich reaction with bio-based glycine and then a novel layered zirconium phosphonate (ZrGDMP) was synthesized using GDMP and zirconyl chloride hydrate as reactants. The chemical structure of ZrGDMP was well characterized by 1H and 31P NMR, SEM, XRD and XPS. The effect of ZrGDMP on the flame retardancy, smoke suppression, strengthening and toughening performances of the epoxy matrix was investigated and evaluated.… More > Graphic Abstract

SSAG-Net: Syntactic and Semantic Attention-Guided Machine Reading Comprehension

    Chenxi Yu, Xin Li*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.3, pp. 2023-2034, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.029447 - 25 May 2022

Abstract Machine reading comprehension (MRC) is a task in natural language comprehension. It assesses machine reading comprehension based on text reading and answering questions. Traditional attention methods typically focus on one of syntax or semantics, or integrate syntax and semantics through a manual method, leaving the model unable to fully utilize syntax and semantics for MRC tasks. In order to better understand syntactic and semantic information and improve machine reading comprehension, our study uses syntactic and semantic attention to conduct text modeling for tasks. Based on the BERT model of Transformer encoder, we separate a text… More >

An Efficient Path Planning Strategy in Mobile Sink Wireless Sensor Networks

Najla Bagais*, Etimad Fadel, Amal Al-Mansour

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.1, pp. 1237-1267, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.026070 - 18 May 2022

Abstract Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are considered the backbone of the Internet of Things (IoT), which enables sensor nodes (SNs) to achieve applications similarly to human intelligence. However, integrating a WSN with the IoT is challenging and causes issues that require careful exploration. Prolonging the lifetime of a network through appropriately utilising energy consumption is among the essential challenges due to the limited resources of SNs. Thus, recent research has examined mobile sinks (MSs), which have been introduced to improve the overall efficiency of WSNs. MSs bear the burden of data collection instead of consuming energy… More >

    JULIANA SOARES1,2,#, DOUGLAS G. FREITAS1,3,#, PEDRO S. LOURENÇO1,4, JEFTE FARIAS1,5, BRUNO PONTES1,2,3,4,5,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.9, pp. 2009-2013, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.019969 - 18 May 2022

Abstract Mammalian cell surfaces consist of the plasma membrane supported by an underneath cortical cytoskeleton. Together, these structures can control not only the shape of cells but also a series of cellular functions ranging from migration and division to exocytosis, endocytosis and differentiation. Furthermore, the cell surface is capable of exerting and reacting to mechanical forces. Its viscoelastic properties, especially membrane tension and bending modulus, are fundamental parameters involved in these responses. This viewpoint summarizes our current knowledge on how to measure the viscoelastic properties of cell surfaces employing optical tweezers-based tether assays, paving the way More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.9, pp. 1905-1922, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.020629 - 13 May 2022

Abstract Rice stem borer (Chilo agamemnon Bles.) is a primary insect pest of rice and is a major limiting factor to rice production. Breeding for insect-resistant crop varieties has been an economic way of integrated pest management (IPM) as it offers a viable and ecologically acceptable approach. This study was aimed to evaluate rice genotypes for their resistance against rice stem borer. Seven parental genotypes with twenty one F1 crosses were evaluated for genotypic variation in field experiments. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences for the studied traits in almost all crosses and parents. In addition, the… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.3, pp. 6107-6118, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.027611 - 21 April 2022

Abstract Climate change has inevitably had a negative impact on agricultural production and food security. Crop breeding improvement is an efficient option to adapt to future climate and increase grain production. To study the potential to provide valuable advice for breeding under climate change condition, the crop growth model was used as basis to investigate, the effects of the cultivar genotype parameters of the crop estimation through resource and environment synthesis-wheat (CERES-Wheat) model on yield under different climate scenarios. In this study, solar radiation had a positive effect on the yield of winter wheat, while the… More >

A Robust Emergency Messages Routing Scheme for Urban VANETs

Mumtaz Ali Shah1,2,*, Farrukh Zeeshan Khan1, Ghulam Abbas2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.2, pp. 2617-2632, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.025981 - 29 March 2022

Abstract Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) play an essential role in enhancing transport infrastructure by making vehicles intelligent and proficient in preventing traffic fatalities. Direction-based greedy protocols pick the next route vehicle for transmitting emergency messages (EMs) depending upon the present location of adjacent vehicles towards sink vehicles by using an optimal uni-directional road traffic approach. Nevertheless, such protocols suffer performance degradation by ignoring the moving directions of vehicles in bi-directional road traffic where topological changes happen continuously. Due to the high number of vehicles, it is essential to broadcast EMs to all vehicles to prevent traffic… More >

Abstract Finding the suitable solution to optimization problems is a fundamental challenge in various sciences. Optimization algorithms are one of the effective stochastic methods in solving optimization problems. In this paper, a new stochastic optimization algorithm called Search Step Adjustment Based Algorithm (SSABA) is presented to provide quasi-optimal solutions to various optimization problems. In the initial iterations of the algorithm, the step index is set to the highest value for a comprehensive search of the search space. Then, with increasing repetitions in order to focus the search of the algorithm in achieving the optimal solution closer… More >
