    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.10, pp. 2729-2748, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.029649 - 25 June 2023

Abstract In order to overcome the deficiencies of current methods for the prediction of the productivity of shale gas horizontal wells after fracturing, a new sophisticated approach is proposed in this study. This new model stems from the combination several techniques, namely, artificial neural network (ANN), particle swarm optimization (PSO), Imperialist Competitive Algorithms (ICA), and Ant Clony Optimization (ACO). These are properly implemented by using the geological and engineering parameters collected from 317 wells. The results show that the optimum PSO-ANN model has a high accuracy, obtaining a R2 of 0.847 on the testing. The partial dependence More >

Qing Wang*, Haige Wang, Hongchun Huang, Lubin Zhuo, Guodong Ji

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.10, pp. 2569-2578, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.025349 - 25 June 2023

Abstract Sticking is the most serious cause of failure in complex drilling operations. In the present work a novel “early warning” method based on an artificial intelligence algorithm is proposed to overcome some of the known problems associated with existing sticking-identification technologies. The method is tested against a practical case study (Southern Sichuan shale gas drilling operations). It is shown that the twelve sets of sticking fault diagnostic results obtained from a simulation are all consistent with the actual downhole state; furthermore, the results from four groups of verification samples are also consistent with the actual More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.8, pp. 1899-1917, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.027650 - 05 June 2023

Abstract Due to its extensive use in shale gas exploration and development, oil-based drilling fluids generate large amounts of oil-bearing drill cuttings during the drilling process. The large amount of oil-bearing drill cuttings generated during the drilling process can lead to serious secondary contamination. In this study, a wetting agent FSC-6 with good hydrophobic and oleophobic properties was synthesized to construct an efficient oil removal system. For the first time, the mechanism of this system was analyzed by using the theory of adhesion function, interfacial tension and wettability. At the same time, a combined acoustic-chemical treatment More >

    Zhiyuan Yao1,2,3, Jing Sun1,2,3,*, Dehua Liu1,2,3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.8, pp. 1853-1866, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.025846 - 05 June 2023

Abstract Shale gas reservoirs have poor physical properties and a large number of micro-nano pores have been developed. Shale gas wells have no natural productivity and need fracturing reconstruction measures to put into production. However, the fracturing fluid will enter the reservoir space of shale matrix after fracturing and affect the production of shale gas. At present, there is no consensus on the influence of fracturing fluid retention on gas well production. Based on this, the paper adopts gas molecular transport analyzer to carry out experimental research on the influence of fracturing fluid on shale gas… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.7, pp. 1803-1815, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.026143 - 08 March 2023

Abstract The production performances of a well with a shale gas reservoir displaying a complex fracture network are simulated. In particular, a micro-seismic cloud diagram is used to describe the fracture network, and accordingly, a production model is introduced based on a multi-scale flow mechanism. A finite volume method is then exploited for the integration of the model equations. The effects of apparent permeability, conductivity, Langmuir volume, and bottom hole pressure on gas well production are studied accordingly. The simulation results show that ignoring the micro-scale flow mechanism of the shale gas leads to underestimating the More > Graphic Abstract

A Dynamic Plunger Lift Model for Shale Gas Wells

    Shiyu Miao1,2,3, Xiao Liu4, Xiaoya Feng6, Haowen Shi1,2,3, Wei Luo1,2,3,*, Peng Liu5

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.7, pp. 1735-1751, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.025681 - 08 March 2023

Abstract At present, the optimization of the plunger mechanism is shale gas wells is mostly based on empirical methods, which lack a relevant rationale and often are not able to deal with the quick variations experienced by the production parameters of shale gas wells in comparison to conventional gas wells. In order to mitigate this issue, in the present work, a model is proposed to loosely couple the dynamics of gas inflow into shale gas wells with the dynamics of the liquid inflow. Starting from the flow law that accounts for the four stages of movement More > Graphic Abstract

A Comparison of Shale Gas Fracturing Based on Deep and Shallow Shale Reservoirs in the United States and China

    Qixing Zhang1,2, Bing Hou1,2,*, Huiwen Pang1,2, Shan Liu1,2, Yue Zeng1,2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.133, No.3, pp. 471-507, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.020831 - 03 August 2022

Abstract China began to build its national shale gas demonstration area in 2012. The central exploration, drilling, and development technologies for medium and shallow marine shale reservoirs with less than 3,500 m of buried depth in Changning-Weiyuan, Zhaotong, and other regions had matured. In this study, we macroscopically investigated the development history of shale gas in the United States and China and compared the physical and mechanical conditions of deep and shallow reservoirs. The comparative results revealed that the main reasons for the order-ofmagnitude difference between China’s annual shale gas output and the United States could… More >

Study on a Gas Plunger Lift Model for Shale Gas Wells and Its Effective Application

    Peng Liu1, Man Chen1, Zhiguo He1, Wei Luo2,3,*, Shiyu Miao2,3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.4, pp. 933-955, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.019736 - 06 April 2022

Abstract The problem of efficient gas lift for gas well annulus packers that rely on their own energy plungers is considered. The complex related gas-liquid problem is addressed in the frame of model where the gas inflow dynamics and liquid inflow dynamics of the considered shale gas wells are weakly coupled. On this basis, and with the aiding support of indoor simulation experimental data, a new gas plunger lift design taking into account liquid leakage is obtained. Finally, a dedicated software relying on this approach is developed and used to verify the reliability of the model More >

    Minxuan Li1, Jing Sun1,*, Dehua Liu1, Yang Li1, Kuidong Li2, Wei Liu2, Jialin Xiao2, Jiani Hu3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.5, pp. 993-1005, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.010443 - 09 October 2020

Abstract Existing “evaluation indicators” are selected and combined to build a model to support the optimization of shale gas horizontal wells. Towards this end, different “weighting methods”, including AHP and the so-called entropy method, are combined in the frame of the game theory. Using a relevant test case for the implementation of the model, it is shown that the horizontal section of the considered well is in the middle sweet spot area with good physical properties and fracturing ability. In comparison with the FSI (flow scanner Image) gas production profile, the new model seems to display More >

    Dongkwon Han, Sunil Kwon*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.3, pp. 411-424, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.08388 - 25 May 2020

Abstract This paper presents the development and application of a production data analysis software that can analyze and forecast the production performance and reservoir properties of shale gas wells. The theories used in the study were based on the analytical and empirical approaches. Its reliability has been con- firmed through comparisons with a commercial software. Using transient data relating to multi-stage hydraulic fractured horizontal wells, it was confirmed that the accuracy of the modified hyperbolic method showed an error of approximately 4% compared to the actual estimated ultimate recovery (EUR). On the basis of the developed More >
