    Strain Measurement in a Microstructure Using Digital Image Correlation for a Laser-Scanning Microscopic Image

    Abstract We propose an image correction method that will accurately measure full-field displacement in a microstructure using the digital image correlation method (DICM); the proposed method is suitable for use with laser-scanned images. Laser scanning microscopes have higher spatial resolution and deeper depth of field than optical microscopes, but errors in laser scanning position (time-dependent distortion) affect the accuracy of the DICM. The proposed image correction method involves the removal of both time-dependant and time-independent distortions.     Abstract Conventional proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have a straight gas flow serpentine channel, and hence the reactant gases are transferred to the catalyst layers as a result of diffusion alone.     Abstract This paper presents a computational model to estimate deformed shapes of beam structures using 3D coordinate information from terrestrial laser scanning (TLS). The model is composed of five components: 1) formulation of polynomial shape function, 2) application of boundary condition, 3) inducement of compatibility condition, 4) application of the least square method and 5) evaluation of error vector and determination of reasonable polynomial shape function.     Abstract The numerical solution of partial differential equations (PDEs) with Neumann boundary conditions (BCs) resulted from strong form collocation scheme are typically much poorer in accuracy compared to those with pure Dirichlet BCs. In this paper, we show numerically that the reason of the reduced accuracy is that Neumann BC requires the approximation of the spatial derivatives at Neumann boundaries which are significantly less accurate than approximation of main function.
