Abstract Drought is the least understood natural disaster due to the complex relationship of multiple contributory factors. Its beginning and end are hard to gauge, and they can last for months or even for years. India has faced many droughts in the last few decades. Predicting future droughts is vital for framing drought management plans to sustain natural resources. The data-driven modelling for forecasting the metrological time series prediction is becoming more powerful and flexible with computational intelligence techniques. Machine learning (ML) techniques have demonstrated success in the drought prediction process and are becoming popular to More >

Nanotherapeutics approaches to improve the efficacy of CAR-T cells in solid tumors

    FRANCESCO MAININI*

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.5, pp. 1171-1173, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.017399 - 12 July 2021

Abstract Adoptive cell therapy and Immune Checkpoint Blockade Inhibitors have recently revolutionized the field of oncology. However, these types of immunotherapeutic approaches have limited success in treating solid tumors. In particular, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cells efficacy is hampered by immunosuppressive signals in the tumor microenvironment (TME) and by a limited infiltration of re-infused T cells to the tumor site. The field of nanobiotechnology applied to oncology is also rapidly expanding. Nanoparticles-based delivery systems can be employed to modulate the activity of immune cells present in the TME enhancing the efficacy of CAR-T cells. Interestingly, nano-backpacks More >

A Review of the Dynamic Modeling Approaches for Characterizing Fluid Flow in Naturally Fractured Reservoirs

    M. N. Tarhuni*, W. R. Sulaiman, M. Z. Jaafar, M. Milad, A. M. Alghol

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.4, pp. 761-795, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.016645 - 31 May 2021

Abstract Fluid flow in fractured media has been studied for decades and received considerable attention in the oil and gas industry because of the high productivity of naturally fractured reservoirs. Due to formation complexity and reservoir heterogeneity, characterizing fluid flow with an appropriate reservoir model presents a challenging task that differs relatively from homogeneous conventional reservoirs in many aspects of view, including geological, petrophysical, production, and economics. In most fractured reservoirs, fracture networks create complex pathways that affect hydrocarbon flow, well performance, hence reservoir characterization. A better and comprehensive understanding of the available reservoir modeling approaches… More >

Development of high yield and tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) resistance using conventional and molecular approaches: A review

    THARANGANI WELEGAMA1, MOHD Y. RAFII1,2,*, KHAIRULMAZMI AHMAD1,3, SHAIRUL I. RAMLEE1,2, YUSUFF OLADOSU1

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.4, pp. 1069-1079, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.014354 - 22 April 2021

Abstract Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) belonging to the family Solanaceae is the second most consumed and cultivated vegetable globally. Since the ancient time of its domestication, thousands of cultivated tomato varieties have been developed targeting an array of aspects. Among which breeding for yield and yield-related traits are mostly focused. Cultivated tomato is extremely genetically poor and hence it is a victim for several biotic and abiotic stresses. Among the biotic stresses, the impact of viral diseases is critical all over tomato cultivating areas. Improvement of tomato still largely rely on conventional methods worldwide while molecular approaches, More >

Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) is expanding its roots in medical diagnostics. Various acute and chronic diseases can be identified accurately at the initial level by using AI methods to prevent the progression of health complications. Kidney diseases are producing a high impact on global health and medical practitioners are suggested that the diagnosis at earlier stages is one of the foremost approaches to avert chronic kidney disease and renal failure. High blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, and glomerulonephritis are the root causes of kidney disease. Therefore, the present study is proposed a set of multiple techniques such… More >

RETRACTED: Recent Approaches for Text Summarization Using Machine Learning & LSTM0

    Neeraj Kumar Sirohi1,*, Mamta Bansal1, S. N. Rajan2

    Journal on Big Data, Vol.3, No.1, pp. 35-47, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jbd.2021.015954 - 25 January 2021

Abstract Nowadays, data is very rapidly increasing in every domain such as social media, news, education, banking, etc. Most of the data and information is in the form of text. Most of the text contains little invaluable information and knowledge with lots of unwanted contents. To fetch this valuable information out of the huge text document, we need summarizer which is capable to extract data automatically and at the same time capable to summarize the document, particularly textual text in novel document, without losing its any vital information. The summarization could be in the form of… More >

Abstract A brainwave classification, which does not involve any limb movement and stimulus for character-writing applications, benefits impaired people, in terms of practical communication, because it allows users to command a device/computer directly via electroencephalogram signals. In this paper, we propose a new framework based on Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) features along with the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and Kernel Extreme Learning Machine (KELM)-based classifiers. For this purpose, firstly, we introduce EMD to decompose EEG signals into Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs), which actually are used as the input features of the brainwave classification for the character-writing… More >

Abstract The Fused Modified Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm has been proposed, which selects the most specific feature sets from images of the disease of plant leaves. The Proposed algorithm ensures the detection of diseases during the early stages of the diagnosis of leaf disease by farmers and, finally, the crop needed to be controlled by farmers to ensure the survival and protection of plants. In this study, a novel approach has been suggested based on the standard optimization algorithm for grasshopper and the selection of features. Leaf conditions in plants are a major factor in reducing crop… More >

Abstract Biomechanics is the study of physiological properties of data and the measurement of human behavior. In normal conditions, behavioural properties in stable form are created using various inputs of subconscious/conscious human activities such as speech style, body movements in walking patterns, writing style and voice tunes. One cannot perform any change in these inputs that make results reliable and increase the accuracy. The aim of our study is to perform a comparative analysis between the marker-based motion capturing system (MBMCS) and the marker-less motion capturing system (MLMCS) using the lower body joint angles of human… More >
