    Shafiqur Rehman1, Umar T. Salman2,*, Luai M. Alhems1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.6, pp. 343-365, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.011471 - 16 October 2020

Abstract Renewable energy has received much attention in the last few decades and more investment is being attracted across the world to boost its contribution towards the existing energy mix. In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), many studies have been conducted on the potential of renewable energy sources (RES), such as wind, solar, and geothermal. Many of these studies have revealed that the Kingdom is blessed with an abundance of RES with wind energy being the best after solar. This paper presents an analysis of windfarm distributed generation (WFDG) for energy management strategy in the… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.125, No.2, pp. 815-828, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.013280 - 12 October 2020

Abstract The modeling and risk assessment of a pandemic phenomenon such as COVID-19 is an important and complicated issue in epidemiology, and such an attempt is of great interest for public health decision-making. To this end, in the present study, based on a recent heuristic algorithm proposed by the authors, the time evolution of COVID-19 is investigated for six different countries/states, namely New York, California, USA, Iran, Sweden and UK. The number of COVID-19-related deaths is used to develop the proposed heuristic model as it is believed that the predicted number of daily deaths in each More >

A Bayesian Updating Method for Non-Probabilistic Reliability Assessment of Structures with Performance Test Data

    Jiaqi He1, Yangjun Luo1,2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.125, No.2, pp. 777-800, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.010688 - 12 October 2020

Abstract For structures that only the predicted bounds of uncertainties are available, this study proposes a Bayesian method to logically evaluate the nonprobabilistic reliability of structures based on multi-ellipsoid convex model and performance test data. According to the given interval ranges of uncertainties, we determine the initial characteristic parameters of a multi-ellipsoid convex set. Moreover, to update the plausibility of characteristic parameters, a Bayesian network for the information fusion of prior uncertainty knowledge and subsequent performance test data is constructed. Then, an updated multi-ellipsoid set with the maximum likelihood of the performance test data can be More >

KNEMAG: Key Node Estimation Mechanism Based on Attack Graph for IoT Security

    Bichen Che1, Long Liu2,*, Huali Zhang1

    Journal on Internet of Things, Vol.2, No.4, pp. 145-162, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jiot.2020.010035 - 22 September 2020

Abstract With the rapid development and widespread application of the IoT, the at-tacks against IoT vulnerabilities have become more complex and diverse. Most of the previous research focused on node vulnerability and its risk analysis. There is little information available about the importance of the location of the node in the system. Therefore, an estimation mechanism is proposed to assess the key node of the IoT system. The estimation of the key node includes two parts: one is the utilization relationship between nodes, and the other is the impact on the system after the node is… More >

Internet of Things Based Solutions for Transport Network Vulnerability Assessment in Intelligent Transportation Systems

    Weiwei Liu1, Yang Tang2, Fei Yang2, Chennan Zhang1, Dun Cao3, Gwang-jun Kim4, *

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.65, No.3, pp. 2511-2527, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.09113 - 16 September 2020

Abstract Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is essential for effective identification of vulnerable units in the transport network and its stable operation. Also, it is necessary to establish an urban transport network vulnerability assessment model with solutions based on Internet of Things (IoT). Previous research on vulnerability has no congestion effect on the peak time of urban road network. The cascading failure of links or nodes is presented by IoT monitoring system, which can collect data from a wireless sensor network in the transport environment. The IoT monitoring system collects wireless data via Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) channels to… More >

A Sentinel-Based Peer Assessment Mechanism for Collaborative Learning

    Cong Wang1, Mingming Zhao2, Qinyue Wang2, 3, Min Li2, *

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.65, No.3, pp. 2309-2319, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.09958 - 16 September 2020

Abstract This paper introduces a novel mechanism to improve the performance of peer assessment for collaborative learning. Firstly, a small set of assignments which have being pre-scored by the teacher impartially, are introduced as “sentinels”. The reliability of a reviewer can be estimated by the deviation between the sentinels’ scores judged by the reviewers and the impartial scores. Through filtering the inferior reviewers by the reliability, each score can then be subjected into mean value correction and standard deviation correction processes sequentially. Then the optimized mutual score which mitigated the influence of the subjective differences of More >

Abstract Objective: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) has become an important outcome measure for patients with congenital heart disease (CHD). The aim of this study was to evaluate the natural course of HRQoL from longitudinal assessment in children with CHD. Patients and Methods: From July 2014 to February 2020 this longitudinal study recruited 317 children with CHD (113 girls, 35.6%) aged 6 to 18 years (11.6 ± 2.9 years). HRQoL was assessed with the generic, self-reported and age-adapted KINDL® questionnaire. During a mean follow-up period of 2.2 ± 1.3 years, 195 patients had one HRQoL reassessment, 70 two,… More >

    He Ping

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.35, No.3, pp. 191-199, 2020, DOI:10.32604/csse.2020.35.191

Abstract In this paper, the rapid assessment method of casualties in earthquake disasters is studied and a casualty assessment model based on coupling factors is established from the perspective of factors affecting casualties in earthquake disasters. Taking Guangdong area as an example, the spatialization and quantification of casualty coupling factors in earthquake disasters are analyzed in detail. A software system is developed based on ARC Engine 10.1 platform. For the same earthquake case, different algorithms (algorithm model based on coupling factor and algorithm model based on building seismic vulnerability) are used to calculate the number of More >

Abstract Exposure to high level of noise, may cause the permanent cochlear synaptic degeneration. In present study, a model of noise induced cochlear synaptopathy was established and the electrophysiological and histological metrics for its assessment was designed. 6 guinea pigs were subjected to a synaptopathic noise (octave band of 4 kHz at 104 dB SPL, for 2-h). The amplitude growth curve of Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) wave-I and wave-III latency shift in presence of noise were calculated. These indexes were considered in pre-exposure, 1 day post exposure (1DPE), 1 week post exposure (1WPE) and 1 month… More >
