    Three-dimensional Ehrlich-Schwoebel Barriers of W

    Abstract Recent studies show that three-dimensional Ehrlich-Schwoebel (3D ES), or facet-facet, barriers of face-centered-cubic metals are substantially higher than other surface diffusion barriers. This paper presents the numerical results of 3D ES barriers for body-centered-cubic W, using classical molecular statics calculations and the nudged elastic band method. Results show that an adatom on W{110} has a diffusion barrier of 0.49 eV on the flat surface, 0.66 eV over a monolayer step, and 0.98 eV over a ridge to a neighboring {100} facet, which is one 3D ES barrier.     Facet-facet barriers on Cu{111} surfaces for Cu dimers

    Abstract Nanostructure fabrication or surface processing in general is predominantly kinetics-limited. One of the kinetics factors is surface diffusion, which involves intricate interplay between the diffusing atoms and substrate atoms. On Cu{111} surfaces, both adatoms and dimers diffuse very fast. Recent studies have shown that adatoms encounter a large facet-facet barrier, even though their conventional Ehrlich-Schwoebel barriers are small. This work examines the facet-facet diffusion barriers of dimers.     Abstract In this paper, our recent numerical studies on the Czochralski (CZ) crystal growth of oxide are surveyed. In the first part of the analysis, a "global" heat transfer model for an inductively heated CZ furnace is introduced and depicted in detail. It is emphasized that accounting for the internal radiation within the crystal and/or melt is of crucial importance since they are often semitransparent to infrared radiation.     Abstract Wheat (Triticum aestivum) transgenic plants of an important commercial cv (Oasis) was obtained with an efficient and short procedure. First, the optimum conditions for the embriogenic calli generation from inmature embryos with a high regeneration percentage were established. The transformation of calli was performed by high velocity microprojectile bombardment, using the pAHC25 plasmid, which contains the reporter gene β-glucuronidase (GUS) and the selectable BAR gene which confers resistance to the herbicide Basta.
