    Yunpeng Ma1, Lifeng Wang1, Zhijun Meng1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.96, No.1, pp. 31-47, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2013.096.031

Abstract In this paper, we propose a numerical algorithm for solving linear and nonlinear fractional integro-differential equations based on our constructed fractional order generalized block pulse functions operational matrix of integration. The linear and nonlinear fractional integro-differential equations are transformed into a system of algebraic equations by the matrix and these algebraic equations are solved through known computational methods. Further some numerical examples are shown to illustrate the accuracy and reliability of the proposed approach. Moreover, comparing the methodology with the known technique shows that our approach is more efficient and more convenient. More >

    Baofeng Li1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.93, No.3, pp. 187-202, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2013.093.187

Abstract In this article, the second kind Chebyshev wavelet method is presented for solving a class of multi-order fractional differential equations (FDEs) with variable coefficients. We first construct the second kind Chebyshev wavelet, prove its convergence and then derive the operational matrix of fractional integration of the second kind Chebyshev wavelet. The operational matrix of fractional integration is utilized to reduce the fractional differential equations to a system of algebraic equations. In addition, illustrative examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method. More >

    H.F. Gao1, T. Matsumoto1, T. Takahashi1 and H. Isakari1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.90, No.4, pp. 283-301, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2013.090.283

Abstract By its very basis, the block Sakurai-Sugiura (SS) method may be applied to solving nonlinear eigenvalue problem formulated by boundary integral equation. In this paper, the methodology of BEM combined with the block SS method is applied to the computation of band structures of phononic structures for acoustic problems. Since the conventional boundary integral equation yields the real fictitious eigenfrequencies when it is applied to an exterior problem of scatters, Burton-Miller’s method is employed to remove the real fictitious eigenfrequencies resulted by the boundary of the scatterers. The application of the method is demonstrated through More >

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) management in the primary care setting

    Anil Kapoor

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.19, Suppl.5, pp. 10-17, 2012

Abstract Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) occurs in up to 50% of men by age 50, and the incidence increases with age. This common clinical problem is diagnosed by history, including the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) questionnaire, and physical examination by digital rectal examination (DRE).
Initial management for BPH includes lifestyle modification, and smooth muscle relaxant alpha blocker therapy. Alpha blockers usually take effect quickly within 3-5 days, and have minimal side effects. Current commonly used alpha blockers include the selective alpha blockers tamsulosin (Flomax), alfusosin (Xatral), and silodosin (Rapaflo). For patients with larger prostates, the… More >

Efficient Parallel Computing of Multifrontal Linear Solver in Block Lanczos Algorithm for Large-Scale Structural Eigenproblems

    Wanil Byun1, Seung Jo Kim2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.86, No.6, pp. 551-576, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2012.086.551

Abstract A structural eigensolver for large-scale finite element analysis is developed. The algorithms and data structures implemented in this paper are well suited for a distributed memory environment. As an eigenvalue extracting algorithm, the well-known M orthogonal block Lanczos iteration incorporated with a parallel multifrontal solver (PMFS) was chosen. Basically, for the better performance of this algorithm in parallel computation, Lanczos vector allocation, mass matrix multiplication, and M inner product procedures were efficiently implemented. And the PMFS for a linear equation which is the most time-consuming part during Lanczos iterations was improved. The idea was to More >

Modeling Train Movement for Moving-Block Railway Network Using Cellular Automata

    Yonghua Zhou1, Chao Mi1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.83, No.1, pp. 1-22, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2012.083.001

Abstract Cellular automata (CAs), model the dynamics of complex systems as the state update of cells restricted from their own neighbors. This paper regards the tempo-spatial constraints as dummy neighborhoods of cells for train movement, such as scheduled movement authority and speed restriction, equivalent to the maximum displacements during the future certain time steps and each time step, respectively. Under the framework of CA modeling, this paper attempts to propose an improved CA model for moving-block railway network which incorporates the tempo-spatial constraints to capture the restrictive, synergistic and autonomous dynamics. We divide the one-dimensional cell More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.17, No.2, pp. 63-64, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.017.063

Abstract Realistic computer models of fracture-block systems have significant impacts on the performance of Block-group Model of fractured rock mass, especially for hydro-mechanical problems. In this paper, a reasonable and effective algorithm for block system construction and visualization is presented. The methodology is based on CAGD Computer Aided Geometric Design and employs object oriented programming (OOP) technique to organize project data, including input parameters, research objects, graphic information and analytical results.

The use of traditional key-block theory for the analysis of blocky rock mass structures in mining and civil engineering is well established. And such methods More >

Li Liping, Pan Yishan, Zhang Mengtao

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.16, No.4, pp. 103-104, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.016.103

Abstract The block model of effect of anomalous low friction in rock mass was established based on plasticity kinetics and theoretical analysis. And the normal stress formulas of contact interface between rock stratum and roof on elastic stage and elastic-plasticity stage were presented. The theoretical analysis indicates that under dynamic loading, the normal stress of contact interface between rock stratum and roof on elastic stage and elastic-plasticity stage of simple beam both reduce, and the reduction amplitude are both great. The friction force of the contact interface reduces sharply, therefore the existence of effect of anomalous More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.16, No.2, pp. 61-62, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.016.061

Abstract A lot of researchers have dealt with the heat transfer enhancement of block heat sources mounted on the channel walls by using baffle. On the other hand, the heat generating components are allocated inside the channel or cabinet in many engineering applications. This study aims firstly to investigate the characteristics of conjugate heat transfer of conduction-forced convection in a rectangular channel containing a block heat source module. The module is comprised of a board and five block heat sources mounted discretely on the up surface of the board. Furthermore, efforts are carried out to explore… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.7, No.2, pp. 125-140, 2011, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2011.007.125

Abstract In this paper a numerical study of natural convection in a two dimensional convergent channel, with or without rectangular block, is carried out. The block is placed at the channel outlet and its thermal conductivity is set equal to that of air. One of channel planes is heated at constant temperature TH. The other one is maintained cold at TC < TH. The governing equations are solved using a finite volume method and the SIMLEC algorithm for the velocity-pressure coupling is used. Special emphasis is given to detail the effect of the block size and Rayleigh number… More >
