    J. Jayanthi1,*, M. Kavitha2, T. Jayasankar3, A. Sagai Francis Britto4, N. B. Prakash5, Mohamed Yacin Sikkandar6, C. Bharathiraja7

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.3, pp. 4191-4203, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.012252 - 06 May 2021

Abstract Image recognition is considered to be the pre-eminent paradigm for the automatic detection of tumor diseases in this era. Among various cancers identified so far, glioma, a type of brain tumor, is one of the deadliest cancers, and it remains challenging to the medicinal world. The only consoling factor is that the survival rate of the patient is increased by remarkable percentage with the early diagnosis of the disease. Early diagnosis is attempted to be accomplished with the changes observed in the images of suspected parts of the brain captured in specific interval of time.… More >

    Tapan Kumar Das1, Pradeep Kumar Roy2, Mohy Uddin3, Kathiravan Srinivasan1, Chuan-Yu Chang4,*, Shabbir Syed-Abdul5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.2, pp. 2413-2429, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.016698 - 13 April 2021

Abstract Machine learning based image analysis for predicting and diagnosing certain diseases has been entirely trustworthy and even as efficient as a domain expert’s inspection. However, the style of non-transparency functioning by a trained machine learning system poses a more significant impediment for seamless knowledge trajectory, clinical mapping, and delusion tracing. In this proposed study, a deep learning based framework that employs deep convolution neural network (Deep-CNN), by utilizing both clinical presentations and conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) investigations, for diagnosing tumors is explored. This research aims to develop a model that can be used for… More >

    Ayesha Bin T. Tahir1, Muhamamd Attique Khan1, Majed Alhaisoni2, Junaid Ali Khan1, Yunyoung Nam3,*, Shui-Hua Wang4, Kashif Javed5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.1, pp. 1099-1116, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015154 - 22 March 2021

Abstract Background: A brain tumor reflects abnormal cell growth. Challenges: Surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy are used to treat brain tumors, but these procedures are painful and costly. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive modality for diagnosing tumors, but scans must be interpretated by an expert radiologist. Methodology: We used deep learning and improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO) to automate brain tumor classification. MRI scan contrast is enhanced by ant colony optimization (ACO); the scans are then used to further train a pretrained deep learning model, via transfer learning (TL), and to extract features from two More >

Nature-Inspired Level Set Segmentation Model for 3D-MRI Brain Tumor Detection

    Oday Ali Hassen1, Sarmad Omar Abter2, Ansam A. Abdulhussein3, Saad M. Darwish4,*, Yasmine M. Ibrahim4, Walaa Sheta5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.1, pp. 961-981, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014404 - 22 March 2021

Abstract Medical image segmentation has consistently been a significant topic of research and a prominent goal, particularly in computer vision. Brain tumor research plays a major role in medical imaging applications by providing a tremendous amount of anatomical and functional knowledge that enhances and allows easy diagnosis and disease therapy preparation. To prevent or minimize manual segmentation error, automated tumor segmentation, and detection became the most demanding process for radiologists and physicians as the tumor often has complex structures. Many methods for detection and segmentation presently exist, but all lack high accuracy. This paper’s key contribution… More >

Brain Tumor Classification Based on Fine-Tuned Models and the Ensemble Method

    Neelum Noreen1,*, Sellapan Palaniappan1, Abdul Qayyum2, Iftikhar Ahmad3, Madini O. Alassafi3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.3, pp. 3967-3982, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014158 - 01 March 2021

Abstract Brain tumors are life-threatening for adults and children. However, accurate and timely detection can save lives. This study focuses on three different types of brain tumors: Glioma, meningioma, and pituitary tumors. Many studies describe the analysis and classification of brain tumors, but few have looked at the problem of feature engineering. Methods are needed to overcome the drawbacks of manual diagnosis and conventional feature-engineering techniques. An automatic diagnostic system is thus necessary to extract features and classify brain tumors accurately. While progress continues to be made, the automatic diagnoses of brain tumors still face challenges… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.59, No.3, pp. 713-727, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.05617

Abstract Brain tumor is one of the most dangerous disease that causes due to uncontrollable and abnormal cell partition. In this paper, we have used MRI brain scan in comparison with CT brain scan as it is less harmful to detect brain tumor. We considered watershed segmentation technique for brain tumor detection. The proposed methodology is divided as follows: pre-processing, computing foreground applying watershed, extract and supply features to machine learning algorithms. Consequently, this study is tested on big data set of images and we achieved acceptable accuracy from K-NN classification algorithm in detection of brain More >

A Machine Learning Approach for MRI Brain Tumor Classification

    Ravikumar Gurusamy1, Dr Vijayan Subramaniam2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.53, No.2, pp. 91-108, 2017, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2017.053.091

Abstract A new method for the denoising, extraction and tumor detection on MRI images is presented in this paper. MRI images help physicians study and diagnose diseases or tumors present in the brain. This work is focused towards helping the radiologist and physician to have a second opinion on the diagnosis. The ambiguity of Magnetic Resonance (MR) image features is solved in a simpler manner. The MRI image acquired from the machine is subjected to analysis in the work. The real-time data is used for the analysis. Basic preprocessing is performed using various filters for noise More >
