    Qifeng Shan1,2, Ming Mao2, Yushun Li3,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 149-166, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.029445 - 23 January 2024

Abstract A theoretical analysis of upward deflection and midspan deflection of prestressed bamboo-steel composite beams is presented in this study. The deflection analysis considers the influences of interface slippage and shear deformation. Furthermore, the calculation model for flexural capacity is proposed considering the two stages of loading. The theoretical results are verified with 8 specimens considering different prestressed load levels, load schemes, and prestress schemes. The results indicate that the proposed theoretical analysis provides a feasible prediction of the deflection and bearing capacity of bamboo-steel composite beams. For deflection analysis, the method considering the slippage and More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.3, pp. 2899-2924, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.030418 - 15 December 2023

Abstract Base isolators used in buildings provide both a good acceleration reduction and structural vibration control structures. The base isolators may lose their damping capacity over time due to environmental or dynamic effects. This deterioration of them requires the determination of the maintenance and repair needs and is important for the long-term isolator life. In this study, an artificial intelligence prediction model has been developed to determine the damage and maintenance-repair requirements of isolators as a result of environmental effects and dynamic factors over time. With the developed model, the required damping capacity of the isolator… More >

Tensile Strain Capacity Prediction of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) Using Soft Computing Techniques

    Rabar H. Faraj1,*, Hemn Unis Ahmed2,3, Hardi Saadullah Fathullah4, Alan Saeed Abdulrahman2, Farid Abed5

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.3, pp. 2925-2954, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.029392 - 15 December 2023

Abstract Plain concrete is strong in compression but brittle in tension, having a low tensile strain capacity that can significantly degrade the long-term performance of concrete structures, even when steel reinforcing is present. In order to address these challenges, short polymer fibers are randomly dispersed in a cement-based matrix to form a highly ductile engineered cementitious composite (ECC). This material exhibits high ductility under tensile forces, with its tensile strain being several hundred times greater than conventional concrete. Since concrete is inherently weak in tension, the tensile strain capacity (TSC) has become one of the most… More >

    Yongchun Liu1,*, Ni Qiao2, Yanli Yang3, Yanchun Li1, Chunxiao He1, Siyang Wang1, Chengcheng Liu1, Ruixia Lei1, Wang Li4, Wenwen Gao4

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.2, pp. 383-400, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.041928 - 14 December 2023

Abstract A silylated melamine sponge (SMS) was prepared by two simple steps, namely, immersion and dehydration of a melamine sponge coated with methyltrichlorosilane. The silylated structure of SMS was characterized by FT-IR (Fourier-transform infrared) spectroscopy, SEM (Scanning electron microscopy) and in terms of water contact angles. Its oil-water absorption and separation capacities were measured by FT-IR and UV-visible spectrophotometry. The experimental results have shown that oligomeric silanol covalently bonds by Si−N onto the surface of melamine sponge skeletons. SMS has shown superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle exceeding 150° ± 1°, a better separation efficiency with regard to More >

    Salma Khan1, Muhammad Gulistan1, Nasreen Kausar2, Seifedine Kadry3,4,5, Jungeun Kim6,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.2, pp. 1951-1979, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.030896 - 17 November 2023

Abstract Tourism is a popular activity that allows individuals to escape their daily routines and explore new destinations for various reasons, including leisure, pleasure, or business. A recent study has proposed a unique mathematical concept called a q−Rung orthopair fuzzy hypersoft set (ROFHS) to enhance the formal representation of human thought processes and evaluate tourism carrying capacity. This approach can capture the imprecision and ambiguity often present in human perception. With the advanced mathematical tools in this field, the study has also incorporated the Einstein aggregation operator and score function into the ROFHS values to support multi-attribute More >

Abstract Integrated satellite unmanned aerial vehicle relay networks (ISUAVRNs) have become a prominent topic in recent years. This paper investigates the average secrecy capacity (ASC) for reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-enabled ISUAVRNs. Especially, an eve is considered to intercept the legitimate information from the considered secrecy system. Besides, we get detailed expressions for the ASC of the regarded secrecy system with the aid of the reconfigurable intelligent. Furthermore, to gain insightful results of the major parameters on the ASC in high signal-to-noise ratio regime, the approximate investigations are further gotten, which give an efficient method to value More >

    Abstract

In order to play a positive role of decentralised wind power on-grid for voltage stability improvement and loss reduction of distribution network, a multi-objective two-stage decentralised wind power planning method is proposed in the paper, which takes into account the network loss correction for the extreme cold region. Firstly, an electro-thermal model is introduced to reflect the effect of temperature on conductor resistance and to correct the results of active network loss calculation; secondly, a two-stage multi-objective two-stage decentralised wind power siting and capacity allocation and reactive voltage optimisation control model is constructed to take account

Damping Properties in Gradient Nano-Grained Metals

    Sheng Qian1, Qi Tong1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.010116

Abstract Applications such as aircrafts and electronic devices require the noise and vibration reduction without much extra burden, such as extra damping systems. High damping metallic materials that exhibit the ability to dissipate mechanical energy are potential candidates in these application via directly being part of the functional components, such as the frame materials. The energy damping in polycrystalline metals depends on the activities of defects such as dislocation and grain boundary. However, operating defects has the opposite effect on strength and damping capacity. In the quest for high damping metals, maintaining the level of strength More >

Analysis of Capacity Decay, Impedance, and Heat Generation of Lithium-ion Batteries Experiencing Multiple Simultaneous Abuse Conditions

Casey Jones, Meghana Sudarshan, Vikas Tomar*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.12, pp. 2721-2740, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.043219 - 29 November 2023

Abstract Abuse of Lithium-ion batteries, both physical and electrochemical, can lead to significantly reduced operational capabilities. In some instances, abuse can cause catastrophic failure, including thermal runaway, combustion, and explosion. Many different test standards that include abuse conditions have been developed, but these generally consider only one condition at a time and only provide go/no-go criteria. In this work, different types of cell abuse are implemented concurrently to determine the extent to which simultaneous abuse conditions aggravate cell degradation and failure. Vibrational loading is chosen to be the consistent type of physical abuse, and the first… More >
