    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.11, pp. 2471-2484, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.029617 - 27 November 2023

Abstract Introduction: Structural maintenance of chromosome 1A (SMC1A) is a crucial compound of the cohesin complex. It has been reported to regulate the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process in multiple cancers. Objectives: The present study aims to further clarify the role of SMC1A in cervical cancer. Methods: We analyzed data from four datasets and confirmed that SMC1A showed high expression in cervical cancer samples and was related to poor prognosis of patients with cervical cancer. Cell proliferation of SiHa and C-33A with knockdown of SMC1A was assessed using CCK-8 and colony formation assay. The migration and invasion were… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Background: ((1-triphenylaminebenzo[c][1,2,5] thiadiazole-4-yl) styryl)-1-methylpyridin methylpyridin-1-ium iodide salt (TBZPy) is a novel photosensitizer that displays excellent photodynamic properties. However, There are few reports on the mechanism of action of the TBZPy photodynamic. Previous studies revealed that photodynamic therapy (PDT) could induce endoplasmic reticulum stress by acting on the endoplasmic reticulum. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the effects of endoplasmic reticulum stress induced by TBZPy-PDT in treating High-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection and their underlying mechanisms. Methods: The human cervical cancer cell line HeLa (containing whole genome of HR-HPV18) was treated with TBZPy-PDT. Cell migration, invasion,… More > Graphic Abstract

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.7, pp. 1549-1560, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.027308 - 21 June 2023

Abstract Background: This study was designed to investigate the roles of RASAL2 in cervical cancer (CC). Methods: Fifty-four CC tissues and 33 adjacent tissues were obtained from CC patients admitted to our hospital between March 2012 and June 2014. Real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blotting were performed to analyze the expression of RASAL2 mRNA and protein in these tissues, CC cell lines, and normal cervical cells. Over-expression and silencing of RASAL2 were induced after transfection, and the migration, invasion, and proliferation of the CC cell lines were examined. Results: RASAL2 mRNA and protein expressions were significantly down-regulated More >

Abstract Background: This study was designed to investigate the feasibility of tumor-infiltrating immune cells with different phenotypic characteristics for predicting short-term clinical responses in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC). Methods: Thirty-four patients who received concurrent chemoradiotherapy and twenty-one patients who merely underwent radiotherapy were enrolled in this study. We retrospectively analyzed the T cell markers (i.e., CD3, CD4, CD8), memory markers (i.e., CD45, CCR7), and differentiation markers (i.e., CD27) in the peripheral blood and tumor tissues of patients with LACC before treatment based on flow cytometry. We also analyzed the relationship of T cell subsets… More >

Raloxifene-loaded and aptamer-bonded exosomes induce autophagic and apoptotic death in HeLa cells by enhancing the lysosomotropic effect

    OMER ERDOGAN1, GULEN MELIKE DEMIRBOLAT2, OZGE CEVIK1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.5, pp. 1051-1063, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.028129 - 10 April 2023

Abstract Background: Raloxifene, a selective estrogen receptor modulator, is also known to be a lysosomotropic agent. The bioavailability of raloxifene is around 2% due to extensive hepatic transport. Exosomes are nanosized vesicles that are naturally released from cells. Method: In this study, exosomes released from HeLa cervical cancer cells were loaded with raloxifene to increase its bioavailability, and an aptamer was attached to the exosome membrane for targeting only HeLa cells. Characterization of exosomes isolated from HeLa cells was performed by transmission electron microscopy, zeta sizer, and western blotting. In addition, the cytotoxic, apoptotic, autophagic, and lysosomotropic More >

Abstract Cervical Cancer (CC) is a rapidly growing disease among women throughout the world, especially in developed and developing countries. For this many women have died. Fortunately, it is curable if it can be diagnosed and detected at an early stage and taken proper treatment. But the high cost, awareness, highly equipped diagnosis environment, and availability of screening tests is a major barrier to participating in screening or clinical test diagnoses to detect CC at an early stage. To solve this issue, the study focuses on building a deep learning-based automated system to diagnose CC in… More >

Abstract In recent years, cervical cancer is one of the most common diseases which occur in any woman regardless of any age. This is the deadliest disease since there were no symptoms shown till it is diagnosed to be the last stage. For women at a certain age, it is better to have a proper screening for cervical cancer. In most underdeveloped nations, it is very difficult to have frequent scanning for cervical cancer. Data Mining and machine learning methodologies help widely in finding the important causes for cervical cancer. The proposed work describes a multi-class More >

Cervical Cancer Detection Based on Novel Decision Tree Approach

    S. R. Sylaja Vallee Narayan1,*, R. Jemila Rose2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.44, No.2, pp. 1025-1038, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.022564 - 15 June 2022

Abstract Cervical cancer is a disease that develops in the cervix’s tissue. Cervical cancer mortality is being reduced due to the growth of screening programmers. Cervical cancer screening is a big issue because the majority of cervical cancer screening treatments are invasive. Hence, there is apprehension about standard screening procedures, as well as the time it takes to learn the results. There are different methods for detecting problems in the cervix using Pap (Papanicolaou-stained) test, colposcopy, Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) and ultrasound. To obtain a clear sketch of the infected regions, using a… More >

Green Synthesis of Reduced Graphene Oxide Nanosheet by using L-ascorbic Acid and Study of its Cytotoxicity on Human Cervical Cancer Cell Line

PRABHAT KUMAR, ANJANA SARKAR, PURNIMA JAIN*

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.39, No.1-2, pp. 121-135, 2022, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2022.39.1-2.8

Abstract Biocompatible graphene derivative materials (GBMs) to harness the maximum potential of pristine graphene biologically, is the most important strategy for its advanced applications in pharmaceutical and other biomedical fields. Currently, scientists are trying to find this by using biopolymer nanocomposites or anchored materials. Nevertheless, tuning the bare GBMs towards biocompatibility is a beautiful approach to exploit the fundamental potential of pristine graphene vis-à-vis suppressing the effects of incorporated biopolymers or anchored materials. Herein, a large-scale, cost-effective, facile, and environment-friendly green synthetic strategy is used for the synthesis of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheet using L-ascorbic… More >

Abstract Infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV), including HPV-16 and HPV-18, is the main cause of malignancies, such as cervical cancer. Viral oncoproteins encoded by HPV are expressed in HPV-positive cancers and associated with the early cancer stages and the transformation of normal cells. The signaling pathways involved in the transformation of normal cells to cancerous form and the subsequently expressed programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) on the surface of the transformed cells lead to a disruption in recognition of tumor cells by the immune cell system, including T lymphocytes and dendritic cells which lead to… More > Graphic Abstract
