Xiaowu Cheng, Xinyan Tao, Lu Wang*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.2, pp. 905-920, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.023196 - 22 September 2022

Abstract This paper presents experimental and numerical investigations on progressive collapse behavior of a two-story glulam frame when the side column is exposed to ISO834 standard fire. The collapse mechanism initiated by fire is identified. The experimental results show that the progressive collapse of a glulam frame could be described for three stages, namely bending effect stage, catenary effect stage and failure stage, respectively. These stages are discussed in detail to understand the structural behavior before and during collapse. It is demonstrated that the entire frame slopes towards the side of the heated column, and the More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.1, pp. 285-296, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.023219 - 06 September 2022

Abstract As a traditional herbal medicine, the major alkaloids in Uncaria rhynchophylla have been proven to have blood pressure-lowering and sedative effects. It is essential to develop an effective method for the determination of the major alkaloids in U. rhynchophylla. In this research, a rapid quantitative analysis involving multi-components analysis by a single marker strategy coupled with core-shell column HPLC was adopted to analyse four alkaloids (corynoxeine, isocorynoxeine, isorhynchophylline, rhynchophylline) in U. rhynchophylla. Isorhynchophylline was selected as the internal reference substance, the content of which was determined by the traditional external standard method. Relative correction factors (RCF) between isorhynchophylline More >

    Mahdi Hosseini1,2,*, Bingyu Jian1,2, Haitao Li1,2,*, Dong Yang1,2, Ziang Wang1,2, Zixian Feng1,2, Feng Shen3, Jian Zhang4, Rodolfo Lorenzo5, Ileana Corbi6, Ottavia Corbi6

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.12, pp. 3243-3262, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.022171 - 14 July 2022

Abstract The use of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) to confine concrete columns improves the strength and ductility of the columns by reducing passive lateral confinement pressure. Many numerical and analytical formulations have been proposed in the literature to describe the compressive behaviour of FRP confined concrete under both monotonic and cyclic loads. However, the effect of a stress/strain level in the columns has not been well defined because of the lack of well-defined strategies of modelling and oversimplification of the model. This paper reviews the existing FRP combinations and the available numerical and analytical methods to determine More >

An Efficient Schema Transformation Technique for Data Migration from Relational to Column-Oriented Databases

    Norwini Zaidi1, Iskandar Ishak2,*, Fatimah Sidi2, Lilly Suriani Affendey2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.43, No.3, pp. 1175-1188, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.021969 - 09 May 2022

Abstract Data transformation is the core process in migrating database from relational database to NoSQL database such as column-oriented database. However, there is no standard guideline for data transformation from relational database to NoSQL database. A number of schema transformation techniques have been proposed to improve data transformation process and resulted better query processing time when compared to the relational database query processing time. However, these approaches produced redundant tables in the resulted schema that in turn consume large unnecessary storage size and produce high query processing time due to the generated schema with redundant column… More >

Modified Mackenzie Equation and CVOA Algorithm Reduces Delay in UASN

    R. Amirthavalli1,*, S. Thanga Ramya2, N. R. Shanker3

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.41, No.2, pp. 829-847, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.020307 - 25 October 2021

Abstract In Underwater Acoustic Sensor Network (UASN), routing and propagation delay is affected in each node by various water column environmental factors such as temperature, salinity, depth, gases, divergent and rotational wind. High sound velocity increases the transmission rate of the packets and the high dissolved gases in the water increases the sound velocity. High dissolved gases and sound velocity environment in the water column provides high transmission rates among UASN nodes. In this paper, the Modified Mackenzie Sound equation calculates the sound velocity in each node for energy-efficient routing. Golden Ratio Optimization Method (GROM) and… More >

    Ke Zhou1,2, Haitao Li1,2,*, Assima Dauletbek1,2, Dong Yang1,2, Zhenhua Xiong3, Rodolfo Lorenzo4, Kun Zhou5, Ileana Corbi6, Ottavia Corbi6

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.1, pp. 165-182, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.017223 - 27 July 2021

Abstract Eccentric compression tests on 15 chamfered laminated bamboo lumber (LBL) columns with a height ranging from 600 to 3000 mm were conducted in order to study the eccentric mechanical performance. The failure of all specimens was caused by the crack of bamboo fiber in the tensile region. When the ultimate strength was reached, except specimens with a height of 600 mm, all other specimens could bear large deformation, showing good ductility. The lateral displacements of the specimens under eccentric compression were approximately parabolic in the direction of column height. The ultimate bending moment of LBL… More >

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.15, No.3, pp. 227-246, 2021, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2021.010725 - 07 September 2021

Abstract Structural health monitoring employs different tools and techniques to provide a prediction for damages that occur in various structures. Damages such as debond and cracks in concrete-filled steel tube column (CFST) are serious defects that threaten the integrity of the structural members. Ultrasonic waves monitoring applied to the CFST column is necessary to detect damages and quantify their size. However, without appropriate signal processing tools, the results of the monitoring process could not be crucial. In this research, a monitoring process based on a Multiphysics numerical simulation study was carried out. Two signal processing tools:… More >

Exploiting Rich Event Representation to Improve Event Causality Recognition

    Gaigai Jin1, Junsheng Zhou1,*, Weiguang Qu1, Yunfei Long2, Yanhui Gu1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 161-173, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.017440 - 26 July 2021

Abstract Event causality identification is an essential task for information extraction that has attracted growing attention. Early researchers were accustomed to combining the convolutional neural network or recurrent neural network models with external causal knowledge, but these methods ignore the importance of rich semantic representation of the event. The event is more structured, so it has more abundant semantic representation. We argue that the elements of the event, the interaction of the two events, and the context between the two events can enrich the event’s semantic representation and help identify event causality. Therefore, the effective semantic… More >
