    Abstract In most engineering applications, solutions derived from the lower-bound theorem of plastic limit analysis are particularly valuable because they provide a safe estimate of the load that will cause plastic collapse. A solution procedure based on the meshless local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) method is proposed for lower-bound limit analysis. This is the first work for lower-bound limit analysis by this meshless local weak form method.     Abstract Reliability of nonlinear vibrating systems under stochastic excitations is investigated using a two-stage Monte Carlo simulation strategy. For systems with white noise excitation, the governing equations of motion are interpreted as a set of Ito stochastic differential equations. It is assumed that the probability distribution of the maximum in the steady state response belongs to the basin of attraction of one of the classical asymptotic extreme value distributions.     Abstract A long-term study was conducted at different locations of Southwestern Buenos Aires to evaluate the effects of N fertilization at different growth stages of soybean on yield, plant nitrogen concentration and seed protein and oil concentrations. Yields were increased in six out of ten trials, and the response was highest with N fertilization at the beginning of grain development (R5). Different nitrogen sources were applied at seeding which gave higher yields and increased seed protein content than the non-fertilized, non-nodulated treatment. Urea was the most effective N source.     Changing management of localized prostate cancer: a comparison survey of Ontario radiation oncologists

    Abstract Background and purpose: Annual genitourinary radiation oncology meetings aim to assist in the dissemination of knowledge that may affect current practice. We aim to measure changes in practice approaches that have occurred while these meetings have been conducted.
    Materials and methods: A previously published survey from 2002 was sent to all genitourinary radiation oncologists in Ontario. Six prostate cancer patient scenarios were used: three definitive (low risk, intermediate risk, high risk), and three post-operative (extracapsular extension, margin positive, slowly rising PSA).     Abstract Two decades have passed since the concept of Maximal Androgen Blockade (MAB) was first applied to the clinical treatment of prostate cancer. The theory is that by cutting off the supply of androgen from the adrenal gland, androgen blockade of the prostate could be made more complete. However, to date the clinical benefit of MAB has failed to live up to the theoretically expected effect.     Abstract Objectives: Improvement of radical prostatectomy surgical technique remains an objective for urological practice. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential benefit of intra and postoperative epidural versus general anesthesia alone.

    Abstract Objectives: To provide context in oncology for the significance of the benefits and cost of combined androgen blockade (CAB) in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer.
    Methods: Canadian drug costs for the survival benefit with CAB in advanced prostate cancer were compared with the costs of benefit with new treatments in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), metastatic colorectal cancer, and metastatic breast cancer.
