INFLUENCE OF CONVECTIVE BOUNDARY CONDITION ON NONLINEAR THERMAL CONVECTION FLOW OF A MICROPOLAR FLUID SATURATED POROUS MEDIUM WITH HOMOGENEOUS-HETEROGENEOUS REACTIONS

    Chetteti RamReddya,†, Teegala Pradeepaa

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-10, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.6

Abstract A numerical approach has been used to analyze the effects of homogeneous-heterogeneous reaction and nonlinear density temperature variation over a vertical plate in an incompressible micropolar fluid flow saturated Darcy porous medium. In addition, convective boundary condition is incorporated in a micropolar fluid model. The similarity representation for the set of partial differential equations is attained by applying Lie group transformations. The resulting non-dimensional equations are worked out numerically by spectral quasi-linearization method. Less temperature and wall couple stress coefficient, but more velocity, skin friction, species concentration, and heat transfer rate are noticed by enhancing the nonlinear convection parameter. COMPUTATIONAL INVESTIGATION OF DOUBLE-DIFFUSIVE MIXED CONVECTIVE FLOW IN AN ENCLOSED SQUARE CAVITY WITH SORET EFFECT

    C. G. Mohan, A. Satheesh*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-13, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.36

Abstract In this study, a two-dimensional steady state double-diffusive mixed convective flow in a square cavity with Soret effect is presented. The numerical investigation is considered with two different conditions, (a) top and bottom walls move with same velocity (Uo) towards right and (b) top wall moves towards right and bottom wall moves towards left with the same velocity (Uo). The left and right walls remain stationary. The top and bottom walls are adiabatic; the left wall is maintained at high temperature and concentration. The right wall is maintained at low temperature and concentration. Governing equations are solved by finite volume… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-7, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.12

Abstract Mixed convection flows of nanofluid past an inclined stretching sheet with g-jitter effect is studied in this paper. Water based nanofluid containing copper, copper oxide, aluminium oxide and silver nanoparticles are concerned. Coupled nonlinear partial differential equations are solved using Kellerbox method. The effect of solid nanoparticles volume fraction parameter, frequency of oscillation and inclination angle parameter is observed to reduce the skin friction and heat transfer coefficients whereas mixed convection parameter increases both skin friction and heat transfer coefficients. Present study also shows that, the heat transfer coefficient is highest for silver nanofluid. More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-9, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.33

Abstract Two-dimensional unsteady laminar double-diffusive free convective flow of a conducting fluid in a thermally insulated square enclosure except the left wall has been numerically studied in presence of heat generation/absorption. The Marker and Cell (MAC) method is employed for solving nonlinear momentum, energy and concentration equations and the numerical MATLAB code is validated with the previous study. The computed results are depicted graphically and discussed for various values of Rayleigh number (Ra), Hartmann number (Ha), Buoyancy ratio parameter (N), Lewis number (Le) and heat absorption/generation parameter (γ). It is observed that the rate of heat and mass transfer decreases with… More >

IMPACT OF THERMAL RADIATION ON DOUBLE-DIFFUSIVE CONVECTION FLOW OF CASSON FLUID OVER A STRETCHING VERTICAL SURFACE

    K. Ganesh Kumar1 , G.K. Ramesh2,*, B.J. Gireesha1

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-8, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.32

Abstract The present article addresses the double-diffusive convection flow of the Casson fluid with thermal radiation. With suitable independent transformations, the governing partial differential equations are first transformed into ordinary differential equations. The converted equations are solved numerically by using Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg forth-fifth technique (RKF45 Method) via shooting technique. The eects of the emerging parameters, the skin friction coecient, the Nusselt number, and the Sherwood number are analyzed on the dimensionless velocities, temperature, and concentration fields. Outcome shows that buoyancy forces due to temperature difference suppress the skin friction whereas it will enhance the local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers. More >

THERMAL AND MOMENTUM SLIP EFFECTS ON HYDROMAGNETIC CONVECTION FLOW OF A WILLIAMSON FLUID PAST A VERTICAL TRUNCATED CONE

    CH. Amanullaa,b,* , N. Nagendraa , M. Suryanarayana Reddyb

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-9, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.22

Abstract In this article, the combined theoretical and computational study of the magneto hydrodynamic heat transfer in an electro-conductive polymer on the external surface of a vertical truncated cone under radial magnetic field is presented. Thermal and velocity (hydrodynamic) slip are considered at the vertical truncated cone surface via modified boundary conditions. The Williamson viscoelastic model is employed which is representative of certain industrial polymers. The governing partial differential equations (PDEs) are transformed into highly nonlinear, coupled, multi-degree non-similar partial differential equations consisting of the momentum and energy equations via appropriate non-similarity transformations. These transformed conservation equations are solved subject to… More >

Astick Banerjeea , Aurang Zaibb , Krishnendu Bhattacharyyac,* , S.K. Mahatod

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.10, pp. 1-8, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.10.30

Abstract The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convection heat transfer in a non-Newtonian Powell-Erying fluid flow due to an exponentially shrinking porous sheet is investigated. Both assisting and opposing flows are considered. After use of the suitable transformations, the governing equations become non-similar ODEs. Numerical computations of resulting equations are obtained by very efficient shooting method for several values of involved parameters. The results exhibit that dual non-similar solutions can be found only when some amount of fluid mass is sucked from the flow field through the porous sheet. Many important results on the effect of external magnetic field on mixed convective flow… More >

    A.M. Rashada , A.J. Chamkhab , B. Mallikarjunac,*, M.M.M. Abdoua

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.10, pp. 1-8, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.10.21

Abstract In this paper, the steady mixed bioconvection flow of a nanofluid containing gyrotactic microorganisms past a vertical slender cylinder is studied. The passively controlled nanofluid model is applied to approximate this nano-bioconvection flow problem, which is believed to be physically more realistic than previously commonly used actively controlled nanofluid models. Using a suitable transformation, the nonlinear system of partial differential equations is converted into non-similar equations. These resulting equations are solved numerically using an accurate implicit finitedifference method. The present numerical results are compared with available data and are found in an excellent agreement. The skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt… More >

INDUCED MAGNETIC FIELD INTERACTION IN FREE CONVECTIVE HEAT ANDMASS TRANSFER FLOW OF A CHEMICALLY REACTIVE HEAT GENERATING FLUID WITH THERMO-DIFFUSION AND DIFFUSION-THERMO EFFECTS

    Sanjib Senguptaa,*, Amrit Karmakarb

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.10, pp. 1-12, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.10.19

Abstract An exact analysis is made to study the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) free convective flow of an electrically conducting and chemically reacting Newtonian, incompressible, viscous fluid, flowing past an infinite vertical plate with combined heat and mass transfer. An inclined magnetic field of uniform strength is applied to the plate. As the value of the magnetic Reynolds number is of comparable order of magnitude, the effect of induced magnetic field is being considered and on the other hand due to weak voltage difference caused by the very low polarization charges, the influence of electric field is considered to be neglected. Cross-diffusion effects,… More >
