Identification of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms and Analysis of Linkage Disequilibrium in Different Bamboo Species Using the Candidate Gene Approach

    Xihua Liu1, Min Luo1, Xiaofei Chen1, Changjun Ding2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.6, pp. 1697-1709, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.015295 - 28 June 2021

Abstract Bamboos are one of the most beautiful and useful plants on Earth. The genetic background and population structure of bamboos are well known, which helps accelerate the process of artificial domestication of bamboo. Partial sequences of six genes involved in nitrogen use efficiency in 32 different bamboo species were analyzed for occurrence of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). The nucleotide diversity θw and total nucleotide polymorphisms πT of the sequenced DNA regions was 0.05137 and 0.03332, respectively. Both πnonsyn /πsyn and Ka/Ks values were <1. The nucleotide sequences of these six genes were inferred to be relatively… More >

Abstract Polymeric nanofibers are a promising technology to protect the metal surfaces from corrosion. Through the literature search, the use of polyacrylonitrile nanofibres (PANNFs) as a corrosion inhibitor coating for aluminum alloys has not been evaluated. This work includes the development of a new, lightweight, high surface area and efficient coating of PANNFs that produced using electrospinning process to resist the corrosion of aluminum alloys (AA5083) which immersed in 0.6 M NaCl at alkaline medium (pH = 12) and acidic medium (pH = 1) at a range of temperatures (293–323) K. The PANNFs coating was successfully… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.1, pp. 487-501, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.018292 - 04 June 2021

Abstract This paper proposed the design of a dual-port rectifier with multi-frequency operations. The RF rectifier is achieved using a combination of L-section inductive impedance matching network (IMN) at Port-1 with a multiple stubs impedance transformer at Port-2. The fabricated prototype can harvest RF signal from GSM/900, GSM/1800, UMTS/2100, Wi-Fi/2.45 and LTE/2600 frequency bands at (0.94, 1.80, 2.10, 2.46, and 2.63 GHz), respectively. The rectifier occupies a small portion of a PCB board at 0.20 λg × 0.15 λg. The proposed circuit realized a measured peak RF-to-dc (radio frequency direct current) power conversion efficiency (PCE) of… More >

    R. Punithavathi1, Chinnarao Kurangi2, S. P. Balamurugan3, Irina V. Pustokhina4, Denis A. Pustokhin5, K. Shankar6,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.1, pp. 433-449, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.018231 - 04 June 2021

Abstract Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) comprises a massive number of arbitrarily placed sensor nodes that are linked wirelessly to monitor the physical parameters from the target region. As the nodes in WSN operate on inbuilt batteries, the energy depletion occurs after certain rounds of operation and thereby results in reduced network lifetime. To enhance energy efficiency and network longevity, clustering and routing techniques are commonly employed in WSN. This paper presents a novel black widow optimization (BWO) with improved ant colony optimization (IACO) algorithm (BWO-IACO) for cluster based routing in WSN. The proposed BWO-IACO algorithm involves… More >

Abstract The Internet subscribers are expected to increase up to 69.7% (6 billion) from 45.3% and 25 billion Internet-of-things connections by 2025. Thus, the ubiquitous availability of data-hungry smart multimedia devices urges research attention to reduce the energy consumption in the fifth-generation cloud radio access network to meet the future traffic demand of high data rates. We propose a new cell zooming paradigm based on joint transmission (JT) coordinated multipoint to optimize user connection by controlling the cell coverage in the downlink communications with a hybrid power supply. The endeavoring cell zooming technique adjusts the coverage… More >

Effect of Non-Convective Zone Thickness on Thermal Efficiency of Salt Gradient Solar Ponds

    Nan Li1, Ruiyang Xu1, Caihong Zhang1,*, Guoping Wu2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.4, pp. 1185-1195, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014741 - 31 May 2021

Abstract An improved radiation transmission and thermal efficiency model for solar ponds has been proposed based on both the Hull Model and Wang/Seyed-Yagoobi Model in this paper. The new model is more accurate to actual measured conditions because multiple reflections and turbidity effects are included. Absorption penetration, thermal conductivity loss and thermal efficiency under different Non-Convective Zone thicknesses are numerically analyzed and thoroughly discussed. The results show that ΔT/I0 plays a critical role for the thermal efficiency of solar pond. Furthermore, it is found through calculation that there is an optimum thickness of the Non-Convective Zone. Impact of Electricity Shortages on Productivity: Evidence from Manufacturing Industries

    Xinhong Xue1, Zhongcheng Wang2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.4, pp. 995-1008, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014613 - 31 May 2021

Abstract Electricity shortages present a significant constraint on manufacturers, who rely on electricity as an important input into production. In China, electricity supply has been growing rapidly. However, the rapid industrialization sometimes makes the power supply still unable to meet the demand. Using a survey of 1673 Chinese manufacturing firms, this paper explores how firms response to electricity shortages and its impact on productivity. We find that self-generation of electricity and investment in Research and Development (R&D) have significant positive relationships with electricity shortages. Further investigations reveal that self-generation is the most common way to deal… More >

NVM Storage in IoT Devices: Opportunities and Challenges

    Yang Liu1, Shan Zhao1,*, Wenhan Chen1, Xuran Ge1, Fang Liu2, Shuo Li3, Nong Xiao1

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 393-409, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.017224 - 19 May 2021

Abstract Edge storage stores the data directly at the data collection point, and does not need to transmit the collected data to the storage central server through the network. It is a critical technology that supports applications such as edge computing and 5G network applications, with lower network communication overhead, lower interaction delay and lower bandwidth cost. However, with the explosion of data and higher real-time requirements, the traditional Internet of Things (IoT) storage architecture cannot meet the requirements of low latency and large capacity. Non-volatile memory (NVM) presents new possibilities regarding this aspect. This paper More >

A Hybrid Approach for Performance and Energy-Based Cost Prediction in Clouds

    Mohammad Aldossary*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.3, pp. 3531-3562, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017477 - 06 May 2021

Abstract With the striking rise in penetration of Cloud Computing, energy consumption is considered as one of the key cost factors that need to be managed within cloud providers’ infrastructures. Subsequently, recent approaches and strategies based on reactive and proactive methods have been developed for managing cloud computing resources, where the energy consumption and the operational costs are minimized. However, to make better cost decisions in these strategies, the performance and energy awareness should be supported at both Physical Machine (PM) and Virtual Machine (VM) levels. Therefore, in this paper, a novel hybrid approach is proposed, which… More >
