Production of Wood Fibers from Thermally Treated Wood

Maximilien Gibier*, Pierre Girods, Yann Rogaume

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.5, pp. 1427-1439, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.022057 - 27 May 2022

Abstract The reduction of the hygroscopicity of wood fibers was investigated through a Thermal Treatment (TT) on wood chips performed before the defibering process. The TT and defibering tests were both carried out on a continuous pilot at semi-industrial scale. The thermal treatment study of wood chips, equivalent to a low temperature pyrolysis, was achieved for four conditions (280°C–320°C) for a duration of 10 min. Mass quantification of solids, condensables and gases (FTIR) at the outcome of the thermal treatment allowed to achieve the mass balances for each condition. The increase of the reactor temperature from… More >

    Larbi Afif*, Nahla Bouaziz

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.5, pp. 1243-1251, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021831 - 27 May 2022

Abstract In the present work, a novel Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) configuration is used for a low-grade heat source cogeneration plant. An investigation is conducted accordingly into the simultaneous production of electricity and cold. The proposed configuration relies on concentrated solar power (as heat source) and ambient air (for cooling). Furthermore, two gas ejectors are added to the system in order to optimize the thermodynamic efficiency of the organic Rankine cycle. The results show that the thermodynamic and geometric parameters related to these ejectors have an important effect on the overall system performances. In order to More >

Comparison of Ashes Produced in a Biomass Moving Grate Boiler by Wood Chips and Sewage Sludge

    Baraket Nada1,2,3,*, Brandelet Benoit1, Trouvé Gwenaëlle2, Rogaume Yann1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.5, pp. 1419-1425, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021753 - 27 May 2022

Abstract One option to fight global warming is to convert our use of fossil energy into renewables such as biomass energy. However, the forest preservation and the quality of the ambient air are also two major issues. Therefore, the use of biomass waste without any supplementary emissions could represent a part of the solution. In this study, two fuels were considered for a 200 kW moving grate boiler. A multicyclone and a bag filter were fitted on the boiler. The first fuel consisted of classical wood chips whereas the second was a mixture of wood chips… More >

Energy-Efficient Secure Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Based Clustering Technique for Mobile Adhoc Networks

    Maganti Srinivas*, M. Ramesh Patnaik

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.3, pp. 1755-1767, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.026355 - 25 May 2022

Abstract In recent times, Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) becomes a familiar research field owing to its applicability in distinct scenarios. MANET comprises a set of autonomous mobile nodes which independently move and send data through wireless channels. Energy efficiency is considered a critical design issue in MANET and can be addressed by the use of the clustering process. Clustering is treated as a proficient approach, which partitions the mobile nodes into groups called clusters and elects a node as cluster head (CH). On the other hand, the nature of wireless links poses security as a… More >

Chaotic Krill Herd with Fuzzy Based Routing Protocol for Wireless Networks

    Ashit Kumar Dutta1,*, Yasser Albagory2, Farhan M. Obesat3, Anas Waleed Abulfaraj4

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.3, pp. 1659-1674, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.026263 - 25 May 2022

Abstract Energy is considered a valuable source in wireless sensor networks (WSN) for effectively improving the survivability of the network. The non-uniform dispersion of load in the network causes unbalanced energy dissipation which can result in network interruption. The route selection process can be considered as an optimization problem and is solved by utilize of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. This study introduces an energy efficient chaotic krill herd algorithm with adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system based routing (EECKHA-ANFIS) protocol for WSN. The goal of the EECKHA-ANFIS method is for deriving a better set of routes to… More >

    Hani Albalawi1,3, Ahmed M. Kassem2, Sherif A. Zaid1,3,4,*, Abderrahim Lakhouit5, Muhammed A. Arshad6

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.3, pp. 2051-2066, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.026032 - 25 May 2022

Abstract This paper introduces a renewable-energy-based microgrid that includes Photovoltaic (PV) energy and wind energy generation units. Also, an energy storage system is present. The proposed microgrid is loaded with a constant load impedance. To improve the performance of the proposed microgrid, an optimal control algorithm utilizing Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA) is adapted. It has many merits such as fast convergence, simple tunning, and high efficiency. Commonly, the PV and wind energies are suitable for supplying loads under normal conditions. However, the energy storage system recovers the excess load demand. The load frequency and voltage are… More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.4, pp. 1729-1744, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.021190 - 23 May 2022

Abstract In the present work, a 5-kW hybrid PV solar system was installed on the roof of a house in Diyala, Iraq (33.77° N, 45.14° E elevation 44 m). The system consists of two strings, where each string consists of nine polycrystalline PV modules with 355 Wp in series, and the two strings are in parallel. The energy storage system (ESS) consists of two parallel strings, each with four 12 V and 150 Ah tubular deep cycle batteries in series. A hybrid inverter of 5 kW rated power was operated in different modes. The results showed that May’s monthly More > Graphic Abstract

Case Analysis of a Pump-Driven Heat Pipe Heat Recovery Ventilator in an Existing Experiment Building

    Zhun Li1,2,3,*, Zhengrong Ouyang1,2, Tianbao Sun3, Qiang Li3, Xiaobo Zhao3, Rong Yu3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.4, pp. 1393-1402, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.020488 - 23 May 2022

Abstract The building energy consumption is an important part among the total society energy consumption, in which the energy consumption for air conditioning occupies almost 70%. The energy consumption of the air conditioning system for fresh air handling can be saved effectively when the exhaust air energy could be recovered to preheat or precool the fresh air. Considering the install locations requirements on field, the pump-driven heat pipes (PHP) were developed as heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) and used in an existing experiment building in Beijing Urban. The thermal performance of the PHP HRVs was tested in… More >
